  1. Just posted scans of SC23, SC24, and GL1 to the Green Lantern collecting thread. Jon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Great story and welcome to the boards. (thumbs u I would grade your SC22 a 4.5 but there seem to be color touch or some type of stain on the bottom left corner. Anyways, at $60.00 who can complain. Would love to see your SC23.
  2. Still pretty new to the board having been inspired by the recent movie to dig out my complete Silver Age Green Lantern collection that I amassed some 30 years ago when I was a young teenager (late 70s to early 80s). Posted my scan of my copy of Showcase #22 to the SC22 thread already, but here are some more scanned GL goodies to share/show off a bit . Here is a scan of my Showcase #23, #24, and GL #1. SC23 is in very nice shape...probably a bit nicer than the scan reveals as the book has a very solid feel to it. SC24 is also pretty nice, but the bottom staple is detached unfortunately...I suppose a professional could fix that someday. GL#1 is also in pretty decent shape. I've been out of the collecting loop for a bit so I really don't know how grading works anymore, but here they are for others to possibly LMK when they think. I'm not looking to sell as it took me quite a bit of proverbial "sweat" as a young'un who had to earn all of the needed fundage to get these books back when I did so I'm still very much a proud owner (also have a complete set of Justice League SA books). Prices back then would be cheap today, but let me tell you it was no easy matter for me at the time to come up with the $30 that SC #24 cost me (that's the price still marked on the bag I keep it in), or the other similar amounts I had to scrape up for the other books. Someday, these will go to my son . Great covers all! Cheers, Jon
  3. Yea, there is that annoying stain...not sure what it was, but it's been there all along (since I got the book). It kind of looks like an ink stain from perhaps a couple of drops of water hitting the area all those years ago...but I am by no means sure of that. Fortunately, it's pretty small/thin and not excessively noticeable, but it is there and no doubt hurts the books overall condition. Still, as you say...can't complain for $60 (thumbs u Jon p.s. Got 2 free tickets to see the movie tonight at an advance screening! Not sure what to expect as I'm not a big fan of today's "CGI-overkill" movies, but it's free! Great story and welcome to the boards. (thumbs u I would grade your SC22 a 4.5 but there seem to be color touch or some type of stain on the bottom left corner. Anyways, at $60.00 who can complain. 4. Yes, I'd say so...but back when I got this, $60 was a HUGE sum of dough for me and took a lot of work and saving/scrimping to get . Of course, that makes the feeling of accomplishment so much stronger as even to this day, some 30 years hence, I take great pride in having these books in my collection. For perspective, I remember that the Guide priced mint copies of SC#22 at the time at around $200 if memory serves...which was way beyond my ability at the time. But if I had somehow, someway acquired a mint copy back then...well, I'd still keep it for my son . Jon
  5. Hey all! I am new to the board and just posted to the Showcase #22 thread as well. Collected from the Silver Age books up until the early 2000s. Quit buying as the books were just getting too expensive, and the stories just too dark for my tastes. Anyway, as I stated in my other post, I have a complete run of Justice League and Green Lantern that I acquired in my early teens (late 70s to early 80s) that I have recently been inspired to dig out due to the impending release of the Green Lantern movie, and also a recent personal move that brought the boxes out of the closet . So I thought it would be nice to scan some of my old books and share/show off a bit . Here is my copy of Brave and Bold #28 that I got from a convention I attended probably around 1980 or so. The 2 stickers you see are NOT attached to the comic but rather the bag that protects the book. Also, I fondly remember bargaining with the seller at the time as I was down to my last $42, and the seller was gracious enough to let me have it for that price rather than the $50 he was asking...must have been the puppy-dog, "please, please, please" look I was no doubt sporting . No idea on how these books are graded these days, but my copy seems to be in OK and reasonable shape..nothing spectacular, but respectable. And as others have said, this has got to be one of my favorite covers of all time and can only imagine what the young folks at the time must have enjoyed thinking upon seeing this cover on the stands. I'm also very partial to the cover of JL #1, too, I must say...something about Despero in that "Thinking Man" position really gets to me every time I see it No interest in selling as I hope to pass they along to my son when he gets older and hopefully learns to appreciate them...we shall see on that front... Cheers! Jon
  6. Hey all! New to this board am I...I collected comics when I was a bit younger, starting in the mid-1970s and stopped in the early 2000s as they were just becoming too expensive, and the stories just too dark for my tastes anymore. And space issues forced me to unload several boxes a few years ago...but don't worry, I went through them beforehand to pick out what I thought was worth keeping . My main collecting achievement was to acquire a complete run of both the Silver Age Green Lantern and Justice League books until present...well, until I stopped buying as mentioned previously. I still have these of course...most of the early issues were acquired when I was in my early teens whilst scraping together the funds I needed from odd jobs, my allowance, and a paper route . With the impending release of the new GL movie, I dug up my older Green Lanterns, and will probably scan some covers. I did scan my copy of Showcase #22 that I acquired for about $60 (if I remember correctly) somewhere around 1980 or so: Not sure how to grade these books anymore, but my copy appears to be in OK to reasonable shape...curious what others think. I was looking at my Showcase #23, and it's actually quite a nice copy...remarkably free of defects with very bright colors. I'll try to scan that one soon. No interest in selling...I intend to pass these onto my young son someday I hope , but I am again curious and a still-proud owner of these books. Also have a complete run of JL including Brave and Bold #28... Cheers, Jon
