This book has to have some extra value for Spidey completionsists who value books like Strange Tales 97.
I see something familiar here in this Charlton from 1958.

You can knock JR Sr all you want. The guy made some sweet covers off and on when he put his mind to it, but I found the interiors to be rather dull.

I guess it's as simple as: it's a fun title to collect that many of us grew up on, starring one of the most beloved superheroes. Plus, the internet has made the early issues that much more attainable. No way I could have finished my Ditko run without ebay, not to mention some of the great members & dealers right here on the boards.
Well said!
Spidey is always a good seller and a good buy. Case in point.

A couple nice books I like to call my own.

I though this was the iconic Barks sailboat cover. Made into a poster during the Gladstone era. While issue 95 was Barks first cover on WDCS I'd argue this is his best.

Forgot about Sivana from Whiz and Capt Marvel. For that matter Capt Nazi from Master comics vs Capt Marvel Jr. Now that was a sweet key villain three parter.

I was speaking a little tongue in cheek as Steve has some incredible books, and varying tastes. Plus he isn't afraid to flip for a profit or a loss.
Ebay just had seemingly legit auction for this #1
But my guess is as good as anyones elses but prices are certainly pretty strong at present. These things can't go up forever but here are a couple thoughts.
1. Spidey #1 is a blue chip of comics. If it goes up or down so does the market as a whole and vice versa.
2. Dollar is pretty weak so while Spidey 1's have gone up in US dollar terms; in all other currencies its probably pretty flat.
3. I think we can still expect boosts from the movies until we get a total flop. The more TV and movie exposure the better.
4. A Lower grade book has more of a floor than a high grade book as well as less potential to go up in value.
5. Don't listen to people that say comics can never go down in value. Just ask anyone in the coin, stamp, or baseball card market. They were saying the same thing at different times in the past.
6. I'd rather own a spidey 1 than any other SA key besides FF1 and AF15. And I do own one myself in full disclosure..

So Steve, you've gone from Platinum to Golden Age and now that you sold your Batman 29 and a few others, you're out buying common books like Spidey #1.
Shame shame.

They take the best cover as well as an overall grade. See the hulk which had two 9.0+ covers but overall got an 8.5 due to tan pages. I think the price is based on the comic with a little more than doubling of value. Also, if an issue is a double cover in many cases it means that there may be multiple double cover issues out there. Tag on a 30 or 35 cent variant (see a Red Sonja) and its a sweet book.
I can think of a few high end double covers such as the Green Lantern #1 (GA) and the X-men 41 CGC 9.9 (outer was 9.8) and a 9.8 ASM 238.
Then there are the triple+ covers which get an even greater premium.

I'm sure it didn't cost that much.....

Unacceptible IMO. Give the guy a refund and take the books back. Either the books were dinged up due to poor packaging that should be able to withstand a box being dropped, or the gradding was way far off. Sending magazines that clearly look nice and were sold for better than readers need to be protected somewhat. Classic case were a refund should be given.

No, he is not popular. I think there is nothing worse than to have a character or run of books have a meteoric rise in popularity and then a fall off. Conan is like Dungeons and Dragons. There are a few hard core fans but the buzz is non existant even to the point where you can't make fun anymore. Lots of folks selling collections wholesale and lots of high grade copies since speculators bought them in bulk back in the 70's.
Speaking of redheaded step children....

ok, let's see action 1-10
I'm afraid you got me there. This is the only one I have from 1-10.

I was happy to help Shieldagent with the last issue ( a western) he needed which he picked up in person. Not a club member but a long time supporter.
Its good to have friends in Baltimore if you are on the lookout for 30 cent variants.

And the reason it is derogatory is because in America, or at least in 1960's to 1980's America, the long buses bused in "regular" students while short buses bused in - how shall I put this - the retarded kids.
Not sure which comedian made it a joke first, but calling someone or something as "Short Bus" means you are a little sub par. And since so many of us have ridden on buses, we all get the joke.

Sweet. Will this be the first time to have read issue #1?

Money Bin Model - I want one.

Its probably sacrilege to focus on condition, but I was curious if BZ could post what he considers his best conditioned pulp from the 30's or before as well as his best comic fromt pre 1940 and post 1940. Just curious, especially on those pulps, I find it incredible to shape those are in especially considering the overhang on them.

Here's an interesting story. I bought this raw off of ebay and submitted it quite a while ago. Few years later sold it to a Swede with a few other books for an offer I couldn't refuse. It shows up on ebay and I find it doing a past auction search. This book hadn't sold for $500. I make an offer and he sells it to me and here it is. Seems pretty round about but regardless, a sweet book.
Decent first appearance, Classic Scrooge cover, rare in high grade. And given that the 9.4 file copy sold for $3500, I'm pretty happy with the deal.

Some Big Little Books from the 30's and 40's. Barks reprints in the Frozen Gold and Volcano Valley. Doubtful about the cover though - too bad. Back covers are pretty cool too.
