Quick question. Are there trends with double covers. In other words, is it more likely that one book will have multiple double cover examples vs another issue. At first blush it would seem that if the machine made a mistake once it would do so more than once. Ed

And where are issue 33 and 51? Large Feature 8?

Walt Kelly covers are some of the best, both WDCS and others. I think its just the (deserved) adulation for Barks is typically for his interior work while his covers are often simply good. Other than FC 386, the Scrooge covers tend to be average, while the interiors are genius. The majority of the cartoon books of the 40's were exactly opposite, phenomenal covers (OK, not always) and atrocious interior stories.

I saw some similarities here. I tell you, ounce for ounce some of the other cartoon covers are equal to or better than many of the Barks. If I didn't know about Barks ahead of time, I'd vote for the Bugs Bunny as the better cover.The interiors on the other hand...

Again, I haven't listed the coverless as I imagine it'd really be tougher to find a cover to a coverless than vice versa. These are also issue that may only need a centerfold where a coverless would be useful. Looks like catrick 339 either has a cover for Superman 5 or a coverless Superman 5 not sure what he has but a coverless superman 5 would be needed here twice over. I had quite a number of good transactions before JF posted an I'll Buy It on a What If lot where he didn't pay. He also showed interest in a Showcase 4 where we sort of agreed to a deal and then sort of not, I forget the details but no biggie there. We also had a good trade where I sent a $700 flash book for an ASM 14 that worked out perfectly just before he left the fold if you will. I'd echo the sentiments to be cautious about buying from JF and sending money first before receiving books. Fool me once and all that. But I've never had a huge problem with folks being non payers. The reputational loss is certainly much greater to the called out non buyer than the minimal time lost and high hopes for a sold book that a seller has to go through. Compared to outright fraud, theft, and misrepresentation; a non purchase is the least of the problems between buyer and seller. So, yes, a deal is a deal and shouldn't be backed out. But I say give the guy a break as a buyer. His money still looks green to me if he's looking for more books. Ed

I just got in a decent purchase of covers and need coverless books. Batman 6 8 9 10 Detective 65 More Fun 64 Action 116 (snowman cover, hilarious) Superman 68 Flash 39 42 USA 8 Jo Jo 1 Suspense 6 Super-Mystery Vol 4 issue 1 3 and 4 Catman 25 Coverless issues Batman 33 Detective 87, 168 (origin Joker, red hood cover) Comic Cavalcade 2 I just got done scanning them. That makes about as much sense as a platypus at a creationist convention. So the buyer of his collection could just slowly sell him back the same books Ian just sold off? Maybe even hold back a couple of the rare issues..... Or would he change over to platinum books and tell everyone that Obadiah was the first comic character?

This might prove to be a useful but I think it'd be nice to marry coverless books/centerfolds with either cover only or comics missing a centerfold (or more). Post the list of books where you have just the cover or need inner wraps. I think posting coverless copies might get overwhelming though I'm sure folks would love to see lists of high dollar coverless issues out there. I'd be curious to hear how folks view value for something like this. Lets say a person owns a VG cover (sans staple rip) and another person has a pretty nice complete coverless. Market price for a Good is $1000 and putting them together probably warrants a Good. Pretend its an All American 61 (Solomon Grundy) for a visual. There'd be two tough aspects, the first in finding the male and female parts to marry and the second is valuing the two of them. What % would the VG cover be compared to the coverless copy as described above? I'd guess 2/3 to 1/3 cover over coverless. I'd also guess that independently they'd sell for similar amounts at lower dollar value but at higher dollar the cover would garner more and more %. I'm thinking Detective 35 front cover on Heritage as a case in point - though I think it was bought by mistake or some such. I'd guess $100 complete comics and up make it worth the search but you really never know. Early 50s coverless Supermans and Batmans only go for $20 or so and adding a cover really only makes it a $50 book, but why not. BTW here's website that is trying/tried to do the same thing but doesn't get a lot of traffic it appears. Link BTW I have an Archie #1 cover only where I'd love to get a hold of a coverless copy. Too bad Metropolis wants over $2000 for their POS #1 but then again the cover I have is only slightly better.
