  1. OK, now that we're going slightly cartoony with Smilin' Jack; when do we get to see the Bugs Bunny books? It is your avatar after all. Ed
  2. Why is does this book have the "i" dotted in blue? BTW I consider this book a top 10 historical book due to it being the first superhero crossover where the heroes fight each other. (And not due to being mind controlled or some trick like that) This was a 1960's marvel staple that continues to this day in all superhero lines.
  3. Added popculturesales.com to the list of consignment links. Mostly my own comics but anyone can list their books for sale. Ed http://www.gdcomics.com [Gary Dolgoff]
  4. good question Ed. But lets not confuse some things. Dan is talking about, and was asking to buy Marvels. So he was looking for the 75 cent versions of 60 cent books and 95 cent versions or 75 cent books. There is no doubt they are Canadian Editions. You are probably referring to the gold key, harvey & archie books that had 15 cent versions versus 12 cent versions. I have never had any of those to look at the indicia, so I cannot state anything except for others saying that they were Canadian editions. Yes I am referring to the Gold Key etc. The Tarzan issue I showed earlier in the thread has zero difference other than cover price. It may be Canadian but I believe there is a significant comparison challenge here. In the Golden Age, there were specific differences between Canadian and US. Sometimes it was the back cover or right on the front it says "Canadian Edition" or other interior differences, often the indicia. Same with the Silver Age Pence copies. I believe there are differences besides the price with the pence copies. Plus there is a definite negative in that the price is in a different currency than. The 12c vs 15c is a more compelling variant than say 12c vs 9d. With the certainty that an issue was foreign to the US, no doubt it loses collectibility relative to the US version. Still, unless there was some evidence that GK, Harvey and Archie were doing this as a test bed for price increases instead of simply being Canadian versions, I can't see these books seeing a pop in interest or price. Question: With the 75c and 95c Marvels, are there differences other than the price area, or are there other indicators?
  5. So if there is no difference in the book besides the price, ie 12 cent v 15 cent. Then how do you know for sure its a Canadian variant and not a simple price variant. Ed
  6. I'm curious as to what the first cover was with Conan drawn or painted on it. Was it a pulp or a regular book? Ed
  7. Good eye and detective work Mister Comics. And where's the colorized version and list on that photo of the man reading the adventures book, that'd be a good one As an aside, half full or half empty I'm still skeptical on the large photo. The comics do seem overly crisp but the other thing is the titles are all highly collectible in todays world. No cartoony books or unpopular titles - all are money books. It just seems too convenient. I just don't think its a slam dunk either way. And as far as the why. Look how easy its been to post up those colorized versions, it'd be just as easy to doctor a B&W photo with half a days work. Ed
  8. Silver Age, Golden Age. The ultimate wasted money comic of the mid 80's was: If the Devil Would Talk. There has to be a conspiracy behind that book which was once ranked in the top 5 Silver Age books.
  9. I'm convinced its Funny Pages v4 #1 classified as rare in Overstreet. Vertical arrow quiver, upper yellow title and light area around the text box all seem to be there. A very cool book to say the least.
  10. Comics.org then sort by year for comic title. Pretty much limited to 1935 to 1940 and start looking at December 1939 to Feb 1940 comics. The unidentified book has a thin horizontal word block with black or blue lettering and light colored background located at the bottom but doesn't extend to the bottom. Only two lines of words with the first line indented relative to the second. Along the spine is a vertical something (ski, bat, pole) that is slightly lighter colored than the dark background. The title bar is light colored with something interrupting the lower left side right near the spine (photo defect?). It also looks like the first word of the title (or at least the largest word in the title) starts at the spine and leans right. Definitely comic size and not a magazine or large feature comic. Any other visual clues?
  11. I'm going to guess here but 2nd comic from the right might be Speed Comics #2
  12. Great piece, I wish I could afford a JJ original that was comic, fantasy or Heavy Metal related. I'll chime in with this piece which was affordable.
  13. Four Color 9, WDCS 31 and the Barks March of Comics used to be monster books.
  14. I don't think anyone cares about Mile High books around here.... Have these even been displayed anywhere before? Ed
  15. I went to the York Heritage Library and looked up old photos today of the city of York. There were about 4 out of 1500 that showed anything of interest. Only 2 of which could I really see old comics or magazines. One was from 1935 but the mags were pretty grainy and hard to make out. It didn't look there were any comics either, just Detective and Western Pulps. The better one was from 1955 with 3 racks of comics but you could really only see the titles. What was interesting was one of the 3 racks was of Classics Illustrated only. Anyway, To get the photo scanned at a high level dpi would cost $20 per photo so I haven't thrown down the coin yet. Especially since you really couldn't see the covers in full. If I saw a picture like those in this thread I probably would. Titles included. Girls of Romance Our Fighting Forces Katy Keene Jimmy Olsen Daredevil (GA) Jughead Heckel and Jeckel (A Harvey book Hury or Huny?) but no real superhero or horror books. Anyway, it was a fun memory lane and I highly recommend going to that part of your library if you ever have the chance. Ed
  16. I thee Web!? cover Mindworm is always up there. Any Bagley cover.
  17. Took a chance on this Human Torch #2 and lets just say it didn't quite work out. Strange too as all the indicators of the ebay seller were good. Bottom line is the book was missing 3 centerfold pages and seller accused me of swiping them, and asking for a refund. Though I returned it and went through the motions of an ebay complaint, he did send back the book. That actually surprised me, after all; why not scam all the way. Anyway here it is, and still pretty cool. I guess the "no paypal" and the GOD BLESS should have clued me it. ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110220344680
  18. Arch - at least add some wit to your rebutals. Sheesh, I spent 10 minutes on my post and all you have is a caffeine joke. My skin like ...uh... Alligator... Thick Thick....Last long time. Also, in all seriousness, I proferred a complaint and a solution. Like my old Army boss once said, "If you're going to give me a turd sausage, at least give me a knife and fork to eat it with" What say you.
  19. Annoyance level of new banner: 15 Approx number of users seeing it: 1000 Total annoyance: 15 x 1000 = 15,000 Possibility of prevention of scam, flame wars or heated threads: 0.08 Annoyance level of any of the above: 500 Number of affected: 100 Total Annoyance: 0.08 x 500 x 100 = 4000 Ergo: lose the banner. 20. Jeez its even on the second 80th screen page ARRRGHHHH Thanks Arch you're the best....
  21. Thats all well and good but some of these changes are so retarded that its clear they aren't fleshed out by anybody but Arch and his belly button lint. Remember the Cluster Foxtrot changes to the overall format of the boards??? He needs to get out more. THIS IS THE INTERNET PEOPLE. The days of top down management in an online setting have been over since Windows 95. 1. Try a beta site 2. Ask people to visit and offer opinions. 3. Implement best usage. 4. Adjust as necessary.
  22. The best police are the self police. Arch needs to give some trustworthy folks access to either freeze threads (and allow them to simply fall off) or delete threads. He can't monitor everything so why not give a few people hall monitor badges and so they will respect his AU-THOR-I-TAY.
  23. For Sale: This is Annoying SOTI CGC 6.5 $100 Arch, any way you can post this at the bottom of the screen or something. Truly bothersome, almost like Quality Comix flashing banner at the top. 24. I had the same thing show for a Tarzan 177. The price variant club seemed to think its a Canadian version. But with absolutely zero difference it makes me wonder. Plus it just so happens that Tarzan 177 is the last 12 cent issue. Looking at ebay past sales, the 15 cent version is harder to find but by no means impossible. If there are other Tarzan 15 centers on issues before this one, then I might think its a Canadian thing. Regarding the Archies, if its 1966 and not 1968 my guess is Canadian, as inflation hadn't really hit until then.
