Speaking of Pacific Coast Daredevils, a true story:
Way back when Robert Roter first listed the PC books, people had to access the Pacific Comic Exchange through a dial-up modem. At least that's the way I had to do it with my 14.4 baud modem.
When Robert listed the Daredevils, I bought the #6 (NM/M 90), 7 (NM++88), and #17 (NM++88).* I also bought the FF #14 (NM/M 90) and 16 (NM++88) the same day and put the modem to good use. This June 21st 1999.
When the box arrived, they were pretty sweet. But during my elation, I noticed on the invoice that Robert forgot to charge me for the DD #17. So I called Robert and started to tell him that he made a mistake on the invoice. He immediately got very gruff with me and said there was no mistake. After he went on for a bit, I finally was able to interject and say, "Listen, you forgot to charge me for a book. I OWE YOU MONEY." He finally calmed down and said, "Oh, thanks."
*The DD #7 had a corner chip was later graded a 9.2 by CGC. The DD #6 was gorgeous and came back a 9.6. The DD #17 was graded a 9.8.
