  1. I've sold two copies of this book.

    A CGC 8.5 and a raw VG/FN.

and that was when there were only 7 known copies.

Since then, about 7 more have surfaced and helped

lower prices as the quota of collectors who were willing

to pay big money for this book has been filled.

I know this book very well and that VG copy will never

sell for $1,500.00. I'd be surprised if it sells for $500.00

You might be right, but in this day and age of super rare Variants (Example Amazing Spiderman Dell'otto) selling for 9K and there are over 200 copies of that book alone. Supply and Demand has changed with collector's the past 2 years. If the seller would go low enough I would consider picking this up at that price, but I doubt that the seller would sell it that low. My guess is this auction will go unsold, and the book will be either relisted right away or taken down and sold at a con.

  2. That eBay seller is dreaming if he/she thinks that VG copy is worth $5,000.

Take a zero off and divide by two to get a true value in that condition.

Well if you have a copy for that price, I will buy it from you now. My guess is the seller will get at least $1500 minimum for it. There is no sales data in over 3 years for this book.

  3. To be fair, while I don't agree with everything on the CBSI site, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy many of their articles. It seems to me an argument can and has been made for 4 different books being made as first appearances of the trio as a team. At least 3 of them have some validity imo. The outsider to me is HQ #3 and it happens to be the only copy that I own. It doesn't matter, its still a first of a sort and has it's own reason for being potentially valuable.

A first does not always equal most important and there is little consistency in which appearance becomes most valuable. See the first Wolverine vs the first Darkseid.

I've caught myself worrying over why something is popular or not and does it deserve to b. Who decides ? Can a CBSI article sway the perceived value of a book ? Yes, it can but so do opinions on here, on comicbookjunkie.com, on bleedingcool.com, on ebay.com, on comicsheatingup.net, comicbookresources.com, and...you get the idea. An article on a film site can change the perceived value of a book too.

Having said all of that, it is impossible to know for certain if people intend to manipulate the value of a book or are just diehard comics fans wanting to set the record straight. I speculate ( get it ? ) that sometimes a person or 2 may have a vested interest in the success of a book and put out words trying to tip the scales. Then I wonder, who doesn't do this ? If you like a book, you talk about it right ? If you're like me and buying multiples of certain books, you probably intend to sell some of them at some point...or need to see a doctor lol

To give you an idea of what I'm speaking of specifically. I read and collect or have collected East of West, The Walking Dead, Southern Bastards, Saga, etc. I've hyped all of the above. I've sold all of the above. I continue to buy ALL OF THE ABOVE when I can buy them for less than I can sell them ( dependent on the margins ) and will continue to do so. So if I say "hey, you should be reading TWD " and turn around and sell some later, is this manipulative ? I don't believe it is but that is up to you.

By the same token, it seems weird to get upset that someone points out that " hey, you guys might have missed something, the actual book you're looking for is this one..". We learn from our mistakes. With over 800 different issues a month hitting the shelves, there is a strong likelihood that someone has read something that someone else may have missed. This could potentially lead to a new discovery. It seems to me that we should be open minded to a potential change...even when they are hard to swallow.

Keep in mind that while a person may be correcting the record, they might or might not have an interest in the book being more or less expensive. Who cares ? lol

For the record, I'm not a member of CBSI but thats simply because I enjoy exchanging with the people here. I don't view it as an us vs them. I do visit their site. I'm betting many of the people who write there visit here. I know its a long rant but this place is much more fun when the disagreements keep the personal out of them.

Thanks Authority and Ween. I write a column for CBSI and was a frequent CGC'er before. I still visit this site on occasion as I like to hear other people's opinion too. I will state honestly that we at CBSI are not pumping and dumping as 90% of us are long time collector's. I personally would welcome everyone to join, as everyone's opinion is warranted when it comes to speculating. Cheers!

  4. Because marvel selling of incentive surplus is part of my point. are you reading or just disagreeing on the blind?

Paul...if you're going to be dismissive, I'm going to bow out of discussing this with you.

Let's say I'm stupid, explain it to me as if I don't know anything: How is "Marvel selling of (sic) incentive surplus" part of your point?

I dont think your stupid and i am not trying to dismiss you !

Because by ordering the nearest case pack over the needed amount there probably is always a surplus on the variants... We have seen the sales and the store surplus deals. if marvel needed 400 copies for the diamond final order cutoff they would most likely order 3 cases.. 675 copies.. I have definitely been told things like this. This would leave a surplus of 275 copies if no other copies where needed for damage or whatever.

    I've been told similar.

By sources at the publishing level & distribution level.

But it falls under the CGC board logic category:

Generic "I know things about stuff" boast.

I've made obnoxious purchases on rare variants.

    As have many retailers here.

+10000000 thanks LARRY ! you do know !

    Larry's disputing your point.

"I've made obnoxious purchases on rare variants."

I'm assuming he means "more than just enough to account for simple overages."

    hm

    Yes.

I mean more than enough to account for overages.

Not really a dispute ! if 6000 variants are needed and they over run damage and run it as a percentage formula they could order an extra 5-10 cases... that could be significant.

    Why the spoiler tags?
