  1. In an age before cell phones, space shuttles, satellites & walking on the moon Golden age comic books gave some great visions of outer space and science fiction in general. The golden age ended just before we started venturing into space and turning our flights of fancy into real images so I think Golden Age sci-fi is very interesting.

I couldn't find a thread about Sci-Fi as a subject, and since that's my main interest, I thought it might be someone else's too!

(and yes I know that some people call the whole of superhero genre "science fiction" but you know what I mean... flying saucers, men on mars, ray guns, creatures from the 5th dimension...)

Have fun and show off your Sci-Fi love!

  2. Ahhh Sunday nights when hopes and dreams live and die with ebay auction closes...

One Planet Comics addition for me this week, seller didnt have a back scan or seem to be very comic savvy, but price was right and condition seems in my wheelhouse (4-5ish). I'll forgive the miscut/aligned cover (look at top right) for the sake of the sharp colors.

A little girl saving girl action this time. With a monster to boot!

  3. Dearest Gator,

as a new HG/CGC collector can you help me get a handle on the key golden age sci-fi publishers? I've already dipped into Planet Comics, but there must be more goodness, or have I started at the mountain top?

I join you in the commiseration from this past weekend, and the worries about who the orange and blue will be carting out at QB this weekend...

  4. Say, Anonyone know why some of the Showcase compendium's have different covers?

Are they just variant covers or is there difference internally?

sometimes the covers are uploaded by customers... just a heads-up.

They may also be different editions, DC and Marvel have tweaked their Showcase/Essential cover/spine look over the years

  5. First post so be kind...

So my favorite thing in the comicbook world is Green Lantern (Hal). And the only thing I love more than good 80s era Hal, are those Tales of the Green Lantern Corps backups. My first Green Lantern comic was #159 and it was all down hill from there.

So this weekend over at Heritage they were auctioning off a 10 page lot of art from the Tales of the GLC backups, which included 3 pages from my first green lantern comic #159, and 3 pages of the second half of the story which was in the followup issue #160, and another 4 pages from the Tales of the Green Lantern Corps from Green Lantern #154... so I kinda had to bid right?

    um I won.

Issue #154 stars Medphyll with art by Paris Cullins

Issue #159-160 features Penelops with art by JK Moore

All pages were inked by Rodin Rodriguez, so I'm guessing thats the provenance.

I dont have a huge collection, but this buy may have nearly doubled my OA collection.

My original plans were to sell the pages of GLC form issue #154 to offset my costs, but now Im thinking of just keeping them cause the Paris art is sweet...
