Feel free to rant. I have my doubts, too, and I'm rather hoping they go a different direction from the classic story.I guess someone will start a speculative thread on xmen books nowThere are too many HG CGC copies of 141 and 142 out there.
Very unlikely to see any big jump.
I really think this movie however is NOT going to give us anything like those issues.
Since Bryan Overrated Singer is involved I already have it set in my mind this movie will blows balls.

I found this is a storage locker in RI this week. I also have a few more I found, But it seems this one is the most valuable of them and the only one in a plastic case. Im not sure about this item other then its value and its got a CGC label and its a 7.5 condition and it has all the pages. I was told to mention the pages are white. I dont know if that means anything...Ill be away the first day of the auction so please be patient if you have a question!!
Insurance on this item will be the same for the US and other countries. Will be going out with full insurance so please dont try to say you dont need it. Im pretty sure the book is worth at least $20,000 but ill start it at $5,000 and will leave it up as long as it reaches $10,000.
I really need the money for it so Im going to make it a 3 day auction and please be able to pay right away and Ill ship it out within 2 days. I can accept paypal, wires, and bank checks. Thank you!!
I will be listing more items this week as well!
Oh so disingenuous.
Also, recognizing that the 7.5 is the condition is not an intuitive leap that someone unfamiliar with comics would make, in my opinion.

At some point, was there a shift from printing letters that showed what other readers thought toward letters that allowed the letter-column writer a chance either to be clever or to promote another comic? The older ones definitely seem more genuine. I don't bother reading letters pages anymore.I love the hint in the first sentence that Roy Thomas was Marvel bound. It also seems that readership is as lost a ritual as walking when you read these letters. It makes me feel I don't appreciate comics anywhere close to the way they were appreciated by the previous generation. -
Ian's thread is a treasure trove of images!
Here's the Remco Warlord book - apparently this is the only one anyone's ever seen, as it is supposed to not exist. This might be the winner.
Was this the winner? How does one price a book like this?
Any way one wants.
pretty much.
Supply is very small. How is demand for this comic?

I went to a bunch of antique stores over the weekend. A bunch of them had comics, but they were mostly in stacks in locked display cases. Some of them were in bags (no boards) that were yellowed with age.
Do yellow bags equate to yellow comics? I'm not familiar with the chemical processes in the paper and/or the plastic.

Extremely happy to pick up this raw copy today - just a terrific book:
That really is a beauty. Mine is like upper low-grade and a good candidate for an eventual upgrade. Then again I got it from a zero-feedback seller on ebay, so maybe I should be amazed I got it at all.

Are the grades people give on ebay usually accurate?
If there is only one low resolution photo, should i stay away, as the person may be hiding something about the books condition?
Both of these really depend on the seller. Checking the pictures is always a better bet than looking at the guessed grades. I saw one yesterday "very good though near mint" which is a pretty big range.
I've bought books with low-resolution photos, only at low prices, because sometimes you get the sense that the seller means well, but just doesn't know how to sell and doesn't know comics.
As with most things, the best way to develop the intuition for this is to make a few mistakes. Just make sure the mistakes don't cost too much.

I bumped three 10-year-old threads one evening, which inspired someone to start a thread asking for the bumping to stop, which I thought was ironic.

The first issues (Spider-Man 1-2, Hulk 1-3 and FF 1) are almost impossible to find in high grade.
The cover is made of the same paper as the inside pages (in color), and were printed in a very low quality paper. Moreover, a very low quantity of these issues has been printed. No need to say that any copy above VF is extremely rare.
That addresses a question I'd been wondering about, since I've seen many overseas comics with newsprint covers. These don't hold up as well over the years.

An eBay win... Highest and only graded!
Very nice cover. I remember these comics well from my childhood. I managed to get Parables, just for the nostalgia, but I didn't remember this one.

Very nice and informative ! But it's "1st appearance of the Punisher" not "apearance" (thumbs u
Despite a few proofreading points, the content is outstanding and well-thought. It's great to see your passion for such a personal niche in the collecting community. I have picked up a few comics from outside the US, but never got into the re-published American works in different languages. It's really refreshing to see your perspective as a collector driven by this interest.

Everyone has a limit, I think. While in college some year back, I came across Avengers #8 (there was only one Avengers #8 back then) for 10 bucks. Structurally a nice comic, with better than average wear, except for the ballpoint pen doodling inside the balls of energy in Kang's force field. For the longest time, it was the earliest Avengers I owned, but I always wanted a better one. After completing the run, I upgraded that one, but I still didn't feel the need for a 9.8. Buying raw, the Avengers #8 is probably 5.0-5.5, which is my comfort zone - my optimal point between condition and price.
I personally just don't like tears, drawings and stains on the covers and I don't like loose staples. Spine ticks and creases are much lower on the list of dislikes, but the more I collect, the more I avoid those too. Someday I may see the need to get comics that are just a little better than the ones I already have, and buying high grade is the ultimate extension of that gradual tendency.
Somewhere along the way, I realized the need to upgrade Avengers #182 because it was missing a staple, and Avengers #54 because not only was it a very beaten copy, but also some guy named John had scribbled his name at the bottom of the splash page.
My concern is that there are many collectors who are collecting potential prices, rather than collecting comics they admire and love. This keeps the favorite profitable back issues increasing slowly if unsteadily in the market, while some truly wonderful comics will always be considered dreck.

Cool thought. Hollywood should pay attention to the ideas of the collectors.

Got this today from My Comic Shop Auction. I only need #6 now to be complete through 106!
I'm also missing only #6 and I'm having a bit of trouble finding it in the grade range I want.
What grades are you both looking for? I've got a CGC 8.0 available.
I think that's a little above my grade range at the moment. I'm trying to stay in the $100-$150 price range. I know, very modest.

Pretty easy providence to substantiate with the date stamps, labels if I ever had to have it regraded, I've done that many times before. Question, do you ever buy raw pedigree's or are you more worried about the value of the book(s)?

You know, maybe Dr. Doom hooked Thanos up with a bunch of robot duplicates. Wasn't there a Thanos story way back that was retconned with a Thanos-bot?
Either that, or this is one of those mysteries that Secret Invasion could explain away.

I had lots of the Colorforms sets, the Stretch Armstrong and the Six-Million Dollar Man with bionic arm and bionic vision when you looked through the back of his head.
This one, 30-something years later, is still fun. It makes a rising sound when you tilt it upward and a falling sound when you tilt it downward. The front lights simulate laster fire with light and sound. Also, the black wings are "interceptors," the gun turret is an escape pod, and the whole front section and exhaust disconnect and go together as a smaller vessel. Weeks of fun.
This is from a webpage about it. The one I have in my closet has all the decals on it.

Jeff sent me a box that the PO played all sorts of violent sports games with (Football,Hockey,Lacrosse, not Basketball though. Basketball is a wussy sport)
Despite their best efforts, the USPS was unable to destroy the book inside their ball/puck
Thanks for the bomb proof packing (thumbs u
Just had a very similar experience, regarding USPS' treatment of the box, and also of the futility of it. The protection of the slab was very solid - bubblewrapped, then sandwiched, with more cushioning after that. The comic was exactly as shown and arrived very quickly and in perfect shape. Great professional transaction.

I'm at 9,999. The next comic that makes it into my hands will put me into 5-digit territory. Unfortunately, I'm expecting a package of about 10 comics, so then I'll have to choose which lucky comic gets the honor. First one in the package would be a nice random method to go with.
