  1. That was the first Doc Savage I ever read; admittedly in the Bantam reprint.
  2. My reaction whenever I see a picture like this is to figure out which issues, if any, I have that can be clearly identified. This one, I've got two. (Admittedly, the date speeds up the process of looking.) The Operator #5 can be easily identified by the parachute, while the Funnies is a little trickier but you can just make out the top of the kid's head under the logo:
  3. Never seen the OA for that Starslayer cover, so you could be right. I think tho only Grell OA I’ve seen are a couple sketches he’s done for me:
  4. The series is here at the GCD, but they have very little actual info: https://www.comics.org/series/80256/
  5. Very possible. Although I would blame the obvious incompetence on the color separations person...
  6. I'm confused. You're saying Mike Grell, the inker, screwed up the work of Mike Grell, the penciler?
  7. As long as we're somehow talking Western movie adaptations... Did anybody ever figure out how or why Marvel was involved with the Buck Rogers treasury? It's not a Marvel Whitman, it's a Whitman Marvel... (Not my copy, image snagged from the GCD:)
  8. Just wanted to apologize to @valiantman... I initially reacted to his post with a "haha" reaction. While I may feel the suggestion of sharing investment in a comic is ridiculous, he was presenting it seriously and laughing at it in the like box was rude of me. I might make fun of the idea but responding like that to a serious post made it look like I was laughing at them personally, and I'm sorry.
  9. It's farcical. While I will undeniably admit a lot of people view investment as part of their collecting reasons, most people are collecting to, well, collect. A few very high ticket books may get some buy-in for the novelty, but if I'm investing money in something I'll never actually get my hands on, it would be stocks or real estate or more liquid assets. @sfcityduck said it well in the post right above this while I was typing my reply. And you can still get your hands on key books, just not the handful of crazy huge ones.
  10. A classic two-issue run. One of the only pulps listed in Overstreet, due to the comic book sections. If you go looking for copies, find somebody who uses the Pulp price guide rather than the Comic Book price guide... there's a notable difference of opinion.
  11. The original for reference, both on its own and with a regular sized book on top of it. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I got the Batman out of a dollar bin or less about 15 years ago. Missing the centerfold, as so many copies of that issue are, but still glad to have it.
  12. At the risk of further confusing the issue, I would think this should be the clear winner in any case. My copy is in storage, so the image is snagged from the GCD:

I picked this issue up at ECCC last year. The dealer asked me why I was interested in the two specific issues I got; I told him. His reaction. (looks at front cover) "That's Matt Baker?". (Flips book over to see back cover) "That's MATT BAKER!"
  14. That presents really well for a 1.5. For some reason, EC's seem more prone to spine splits than other publishers... which works well for me, because it makes for decently presenting affordable reading copies. I'm afraid that issue is still on my "I'll never get a copy" list, though...
  15. I'm not sure I've seen any of these here; am I the only one reading this? It's too completely bonkers to not pick up. The semi-random selection of issues is because those were the ones the GCD needed so had them already scanned:

    !

This one comes in both comic and magazine flavors:
  17. Hooded villains to hooded villains. (I may have shown this book in this thread not too long ago, it's one of those I'm compelled to drop on the forums regularly. I'll get past that stage before too much longer.)
  18. It wasn't even an original cover. (Found online, not my book:)
  19. Thank you. That's as good a description of the Exotic Romances cover as I could come up with; and I'm glad to know I'm not alone in at least thinking there's something there, however slight.
  20. And as long as people are asking is something Baker... Does anybody else think he had something to do with this cover? He definitely had an interior story in the issue. I keep thinking the man on the left looks very much like a Baker face...
  21. It's definitely a candidate for both. It's a stunningly beautiful piece of work.
  22. According to Mark Evanier, where I originally found the link, they are not printing copies.
