  1. Very surprised this one hasn't shown up here yet as far as I can tell. Hard not to love this one, even if I was Air Force, not Navy.
  2. Just a heads up: I went through roughly 20 boxes, in decreasing likelihood of having the book, and didn't find it. I'll keep looking, but at this point I suspect it's still in my storage unit and I don't know when I'll next get out there. I apologize for the delay.
  3. As near as I can tell from the stamp on the cover, this copy was from the Library of Congress. I keep meaning to contact them, find out how it left their possession, and if was not legitimately removed offer to return it:
  4. An otherwise nice copy that's disturbingly just out of register:
  5. First and last issues of the thirteen issue Purple Invasion epic:
  6. One of my favorite pulps, I'm about 10 issues short of the complete run. I posted all the issues I had back in the "I'll pound you to a pulp" thread not long ago, so just a few highlights here unless people ask for more... First and last issues:
  7. Technically, not a member of the club. But found this in a box looking for something else today, and thought it was worth showing. Pity about the foxing, but this was a dollar bin or less pick up several years ago. Stated 2nd printing on last page, appears to be signed on the IFC by Gallacci, signature dated '85. I figured people here might find it interesting anyway: Now that I think about it, if there was ever a book where foxing would be appropriate Albedo would be the one...
  8. I find this a very useful reference site as far as it goes, but it's exasperatingly incomplete and hasn't been updated in ages: http://comixjoint.com/index.html
  9. I have mixed feelings; it's more that I think you can make a good case either way than either how we're doing it or a separate thread in modern being bad ideas. I'm willing to be convinced one way or the other.
  10. Tell me about it. I got this one at the same time I got a copy of Uncle Scrooge goes to Disneyland and a couple others; they were all in the 5 dollar range or so around 2006. So, still cheap. But the USgtD was missing the first page, which I didn't notice until I got home and did a page count. The Barks story in that one is intact, so it was still good reading, but your point about how rough they are holds. Oddball question I may have asked before: Does anybody have a list of which Dell Giants have Uncle Scrooge stories by Barks? I'm specifically looking for the ones where he's the credited character on the feature; not just staring in, say, a Donald story. So Christmas Parade #9 wouldn't count; because the story is labeled a Donald Duck story even if Scrooge plays a major role. I know there's the the one in the Disneyland Birthday Party; it's actually credited to US & Gyro but I'm good with the shared credit. There's also the story in the US goes to Disneyland. And I believe there are stories in Summer Fun #2 and Mickey Mouse Almanac. Does anybody know of any others?
  11. And my X-men 180 wasn’t where I thought it was, I’ll keep looking. Did find the other double cover I have, at least... it’s just not nearly as interesting. But it will need to do for today:
  12. Came across this while looking in a box for something completely different. Can't say I'm impressed by Mickey & Minnie on the cover, but there's a Barks story inside.
  13. I have something similar: a double cover Uncanny X-Men 180 where one cover is newsstand and the other is direct. I'll try to dig it out and get a picture this weekend, I think I know which box it's in.
  14. And the incredible backgrounds and staging they used. I have no problem with people calling it the best of the Warner cartoons; I'm just annoyed that a lot of people seem to feel it's so much the best that there's nothing in second place...
  15. This one arguably straddles the line between cover and story page, as do many of the Spirit sections. My book, but the somewhat cleaned up scan I used at the DCM:
  16. I love the handful of Bugs/ Wile E. cartoons they did. It's a very different dynamic than Wile E./ Road Runner, and honestly different than Bugs vs. just about anybody else. I laugh myself sick every time I watch any of them; about the only ones that compare are the Bugs/ Daffy/ Elmer Hunter's Trilogy. Like everybody else, I love What's Opera, Doc. But I think it is perhaps a little too highly praised these days... it's brilliant, of course, and one of the best, but it's not as much better than the rest as some people seem to want to credit it.
  17. I suspect in many cases both formats were printed before either hit the shelves. It's also far from impossible that on sale dates were spread out such that the first issue of the comic version appeared, then the collection, then the second issue. Picking one or the other as the true first is in some ways down to personal choice.
  18. I don't see my personal favorite on the list, though. Operation: Rabbit
  19. My question is, is there anything new in the set or is it just the shorts we got in the Golden collections? I want a complete Looney Tunes/ Merrie Melodies set; if Disney can get us all of their shorts Warner can get us all of theirs...
  20. My earliest issue. 15 issues to go for the entire Dell run; and it's getting harder and harder to fill holes:
  21. I think the back cover is Kelly, not Stanley; but I could be wrong. This issue is short- only 36 pages including the cover- but other than the text story and Uncle Wiggly it's pretty much all Kelly. Enjoy!
  22. Very nice pickups! I've never seen that particular variation on the Reddy Kilowatt book; I know there were quite a few versions over the years. (Mine is a post-1957 version.)
  23. If it wasn't for my aversion to Facebook I would.
  24. I recognized the source right away! Good luck on finding that one, it's high on the list of wanted books for the Digital Comic Museum as well. Even if it's a more modest version it's a nice placeholder. I wonder if the artwork you have was actually the original from the comic strip, and the Four Star version was based on that, rather than vice versa. It would be slightly surprising to find Four Star version on the newspaper page...
  25. Nothing earth shattering, but some fun reading from a dollar bin today
