The solution is simple... we must find Nancy and ask her. (:

Seriously though, you've got a beautiful book either way.

Welcome to the BP16 8.5 Club! Here's mine...

I like the registration on your so much more that mine. it looks great.  I'm very happy with mine, but having yours to compare, its a no brainer - super nice book!

  2. So I sometimes save images of books that I like just as a reference or a trigger to what I might want to search to purchase in the future.  I purchased this 8.5 earlier this year.

I was looking thru my image file and found what looks to be the same book that was formerly residing in a 9.0 old label case.  What happened?  Was this book once owned by a boardie?

Check out "Nancy" on the "N" and the "D" in the title.  I hope I saved some $$ buying it at the 8.5 grade vs. the 9.0.  Either way, I really like this Phantom.

If you do know anything about what happened here, I'd be very interested in hearing it's story.

  3. Not sure what is happening with CGC as late.  I saw a 4.5 blue this weekend with a hole in the cover about the size of a quarter.  How it was a 4.5 is amazing.  I thought I knew basic grading, but books like this "Conserved" Avengers book and many, many others have me scratching my head.  Someone please explain.

Drove 40 minutes to Batavia because of the Facebook post above.  Spent about 40 minutes looking through the long boxes of the Incredible John Haines.   Didn't buy anything.  Drove 40 minutes home.

I'll try to make you feel a bit better.  2 years ago, I drove 45 minutes to a John Haines show in Batavia only to find that the show had been canceled.  No email, no facebook, no communication of cancellation.  To top it off, I received one of his mailers about a week prior announcing the CosmicCon.

It's a gorgeous copy, your 52.  With that said, it appears to me that with the spine stress line under the MCG box, the fuzzy upper left corner and the overhang wear at the upper right corner, the book is probably fairly graded and the grade can't be improved.

namisgr, thanks for your input.  I know nothing of pressing so I will leave well enough alone.

  6. 2 more from my group that I got back from CGC this Week.

All Star Western 10  This is another change over from the other "P" company.  Went into CGC as a 7.0 LT - OW and came back with the same grade, but OW-W pages

Vampirella v4 #11  I'm not much of a modern CGC'er, but I really like Adam Hughes and bought the regular and the Virgin covers.  My 1st 9.8 sub.

Small central pools of rings on these 2 - hard to see straight on, but can be seen at an angle.

  7. Hello again.  Her are 2 more books.  I have included some photo's of the rings below.

Planet Comics 56      One of my favorites, brings me back to the wonders of the Sears or JCP catalogue days...  Anyway, you can only see rings if the book is at a extreme angle and in bright light.  Straight on, the book appears not to have them.  Submitted both of these Planets in the other "P" holder - they were graded both 7.0.  Once again, very happy with the Universal Blue holders.  The reason that I keep mentioning the other guy is that I once bought a universal ASM #5 from them graded 6.0.  I sent it to CGC - still in its holder, and it came back 5.0 Green Label "Missing 12th Page".  That really hurt.

Planet Comics 59     Another book that was graded by the others at 7.0 OW-W.  As you can see the pg quality must have gotten worse.  Very nice orange and green on this one.  I have included 2 photo's of the Rings.  First shows a straight on view - no issues.  Second shows the book at an extreme angle and under the light.  You can see the rings
