  1. I don't begrudge anyone's travel plans, no matter where they decide to go. There are worse places to go than Dubai. But I'm not stumbling over my own feet to visit a desert where I wouldn't feel welcome. I'm more of a mountain man...I'd rather spend my money visiting the Alps or Patagonia. I know that Afghanistan and Pakistan have some of the most gorgeous ranges on earth, but once again, I'm good. I could go to a more welcoming place and have a more enjoyable experience.
  2. Yep. I was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast, and the guest was talking about his visit to Dagestan. He was sitting at a cafe with his leg propped up on one knee, thus exposing the bottom of his foot. Some dude came along and smacked the out of the back of his head. The translators had to intervene. Apparently, publicly exposing the bottom of one's feet or shoe is a massive cultural offense over there. The same guy was also smacked simply for HUMMING while he was walking down the street. Once again, visit wherever you feel comfortable...my advice is to tread very carefully. Due your diligent research when traveling to places (Dubai) where the smallest cultural misstep could land you in a real jackpot.
  3. At least you would have due process before landing in an American prison....at least we have Civil Rights....at least on paper... and I doubt Egyptian prisons have exercise time, hot meals, commissary accounts, TV time, etc. So, yes...I would MUCH rather have the misfortune of landing in an American prison over that of landing in an Egyptian prison. Go where you want, but make SURE you know the laws of the land, social and cultural etiquette (respect), and the number of the nearest US embassy.
  4. Here is yet another headline from CNN: A British tourist has been arrested in Dubai on charges of extramarital sex after telling police a group of British nationals raped her in the United Arab Emirates, according to a UK-based legal advice group called Detained in Dubai.
  5. Follow the link below for one of a million different stories about weird stuff that can land you in jail over there. Doesn't sound like I am pious enough to even look at airplane tickets. To each their own. I'm sure it's a great place but...not for me. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/06/british-tourist-faces-jail-in-dubai-after-brushing-against-man-in-bar
  6. Dubai is terrible. I've read too many stories about tourists ending up in jail over the slightest offense. They arrested a British Woman when she landed because she had alcohol on her breath from the flight. She ended up staying in jail for several days before they got it figured out. Another was arrested when she landed because she had called her ex-husband a "horse" over social media. I can't imagine feeling at ease in such a place, where holding hands with your wife could land you in jail, or worse. There are far too many other gorgeous, historic, and enjoyable places to visit. I will never step foot in the middle east, especially Dubai or Saudi Arabia. Travel there at your own risk.
  7. This is just another example of how people shun responsibility tor themselves by trying to lay the fault on other people. You can reference another example by reading the recent "tax man" thread, which is full of people who would rather blame anyone but themselves for their inability to understand how taxes work. The downfall of society continues.
  8. Which is... *drum roll* ...a crime!
  9. Here you go with the "victim" argument again. Victims are innocent to the crimes to which they are subjected. The situation at doesn't involve victims. It involves willing participants in a business contract who fail to look at pictures or read the item description, which very clearly illustrate the item for sale.
  10. There is no fraud being committed. The description and pictures are clear.
  11. This is a BUSINESS CONTRACT, not an incidence of crime. SMH
  12. What judge is going to rule in favor of someone who signs a contract without taking the time to read it? No one is forcing anyone to bid on an auction; therefore the onus of responsibility will fall on those who choose to do so. The seller has an obligation to advertise truthfully, and that appears to be the case with the eBay seller in question. He says he has no idea what it is. He's posted pictures that clearly show the nature of the item (NOT an original comic). Case closed as far as I'm concerned. Once again, I don't feel bad for the bidders. If they can't be bothered to read or look at the pictures or conduct due research, then so freakin what if they get screwed?
  13. That's not even close to being an effective analogy. Wow.
  14. Who is the dumber person? The guy who advertises it in the first place, or the person who bids on the item after reading the description? Seriously man. The seller is VERY clear that he has no idea what it is...and he's included pics that even the blind could see. I feel no sympathy for the folks bidding on that item. Kind of like the guy in Jersey who drove around a safety barrier with giant warning signs because he didn't want to be 5 minutes later than he already was...guy drove over a live wire and died. Or the guy who ignores the "HEAVY CURRENTS DO NOT SWIM" sign and ends up drowning? Yeah. I don't feel bad for these type of people. I'm afraid that Darwinism comes in many different forms. Economic Darwinism.
  15. Since the subject is MCU movies... I'd say that War Machine didn't take off as much as I thought it would... that's the first one that comes to mind.
  16. Same can be said for the buyer.
  17. it's hard for me to rouse myself into a piteous mood.
  18. How's that for a custom title?
  19. If someone is dumb enough to bid on that auction, it's hard for me to rouse myself into a piteous mood.
  20. How is it a scam? He says that he has no idea what it is: "This book appears old in the interior pages but seems to have been re-covered with a new copy of the cover attached???? I am not a collector and have never seen the original book so I am not claiming this as anymore than an Incredible HULK comic book ... I am not an expert so please see all the pictures provided and ask questions!"
  21. Sweet book! I vigilantly collected Spawn for 7 or 8 years and I never saw one of these. GLWTS!
