Not telling you how to run your business as it sounds like a difficult buyer.

But having a "no return" policy on eBay is just asking for it because 99.9% of the time they side with the buyer.

I hear you man (and i usually do offer returns, this listing was a holdover from before i'm guessing).  But, ebay wasn't the problem here - they told me i didn't have to return it because of how the buyer set up the return ("changed my mind").    But because she already returned the book to me (without my permission, but besides the point), paypal will of course side with her.   And my issue isn't providing a refund, it's the behavior of the buyer from the beginning.....   hence the warning to my fellow forumites!

  2. Hey guys - here's a funny one to add to the pile (and would suggest you consider blocking).

    eBay user quibet01

Buys a book from me.  About four hours after paying sends me a rather rude note declaring i should have shipped already (no joke!), and she now wants to cancel.   I explain to her that i had already shipped (amazing, right?), only not updated the tracking number to ebay ....right there i knew right we had an issue.

She sends me a note after receiving the book that she bought the wrong one for her husband and now she wants to return it.   I had a no returns policy on the listing, but explained to her i'd work with her.  She then says she already returned the book (just went ahead and did it) and wants her full refund.   I tell her that I'd like reimbursement of my shipping cost to send her the book originally.  She leaves me a negative and files a paypal claim against me.

First negative in 15 years of doing this, 5,000+ deals and 1,600 feedback *sigh*   I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does.  but Oh, how it does

  3. Agree with Roy, but the reality is that books rarely command above a cgc 6.5 if they are truly with chipping.   That means more than one chip, visible and prominent (on an otherwise VF+ book, for example).

I think zhamlau's comment on "max 4.0" is a reflection on how much you personally dislike chipping...which is fine.   But others might argue they don't think chipping should take the book down more than half a grade, no matter how severe.  At the end of the day, CGC does not publish their methodology, but there is irrefutable evidence that chipping affects grade.....

  4. Saw it again today and liked it just as much (maybe more, picking up more of the detail).   It's wall to wall entertainment AFAIC!

Another theater packed full of happy customers - with multiple rounds of clapping.

I understand some of the feedback i've seen here (too much to cram in, CGI missed some things), but pure hate and negativity towards it....can't follow!!

For the DCEU, i hope it makes a comeback at the Box Office, so many more good movies to make!

  6. 1940 Superman GUM Set

Hey all - I know this is a stretch for CG, but wondered who else out there was a fan of the 1940 Superman GUM card set.

They have great art on one side and scene stories on the back side.

i just finished my first Graded set (of 72) and there are only 7-10 other complete graded sets noted.

It Combines cool, old and rare for the ultimate set to collect in my view.   Of course that is also biased by being a huge Superman fan.

Any other fans out there of this set?

If that was printed and distributed at the same time it could be considered a "variant".  Is the cover date the same as the 10 cent version? I'm assuming so.

If it was printed and distributed a month later, with its month of release altered to reflect its second printing date and release then it's a reprint like the November marvel 1.

And no, the black slug would not have necessarily "obliterated" the October date on the plate.  Comic books have all kinds of shades and nuances and layering of colour.  Why can you see through some black slugs ?  Simple- the plate needed to be re-inked on some copies that made it out anyway.   I'm sure quality control was not more important to Goodman than speed at the time.

We have these same arguments with JayGod (self applied Subconcious slip) in thread after thread.  Almost everywhere he posts.

he goes from thread A asserting he knows everything, everyone else is wrong, (and stupid), to thread B asserting the same.  Then rinse, repeat.

NERV, I appreciate your patience through this thread, you have taken this with a lot more restraint than the 5-6 dozen or more others (myself included) who are fed up.   A debate is fine, but debating with the self-annoited king of all things comics, JayGod, is like arguing with a smart, stubborn 7-year old.

The more people that put him on ignore, the less we'll have to deal with it.  I for one would like to get back to the fun of debating issues and seeing both sides treat the other with respect, and the associated fun of taking books.

My opinion on this subject is that the Nov copy is a 2nd state of a first edition.   I think there are many 2nd,3th,4th states of books that we never knew about because the look wasn't changed in the interim.     Hence the value differences are generally deemed small, inconsequential to some.

There would have been plenty of CGI worthy moments if they had a third act reworking.  They could have shown an army of super soldiers and have WW basically single handed defeat that army. In the process the sword would have been broken and she would have herself realized she was the weapon.  That could have been made an even more terrifying moment of self realization, rather than being told by Ares. Then cut to her seeing Hitler rise and see that her WW I victory was a Pyrrhic victory, and while she was wrong in thinking Ares still existed, realizing his corrupting influence remains alive in all men. Then make her final scene, not her flying into the sky, but charging the battlefield at Normandy.

I also did not care for some of the final CGI, especially the WW flying stuff.  Granted, I have never really liked it when DC basically makes her a female version of Superman. In general I think the overpowering of characters leads to difficulties in storytelling.  It puts writers in a position of needing to up the super villain anti so high to make the heroes victory even the slightest bit in doubt, and dull stories. So that taints my personal opinion of some of those final scenes.

With all that said, I really liked the movie.  I put it near the level of the Dark Knight, and for me it is higher the Batman begins, and the Dark Knight Rises. I just think that if they had been a little braver in the final act, and had not gone back to a typical superhero movie formula, they could have taken the movie from extremely good to an instant classic.

Fantastic!  I would have loved this third act!
