  1. I can see what you mean "the blob" i'm just stressing out on the best way to sell my wd stuff. I never really sold anything on eBay so i'm worried i'll get eaten alive on there. I have a run of 1-31 of weeklies and then 31-70ish but they aren't that high of a grade, they all have a color breaking crease so they have to be around FN-VF or something.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention i'm in Canada so I assume that would also impact selling stuff on eBay as some people don't like purchasing outside the US.

  2. Buying OA at a convention. I'm going to have to try that at C2E2. :)

It is a lot of fun buying it at conventions because then you get to talk to the artist and maybe ask them about the page. Now some of my OA pages have memories :P

When I saw Riley Rossmo in Calgary he was selling pages for $50 -75! It's hard not to just pick up 3 or 4 at a time. He is a really nice guy!

Bringing it back to CHEW, one of my most difficult things to decide is what pages I want since so many of them are fantastic. I feel like i'm in one of those Vietnamese restaurants with 600 items on the menu lol

  3. Any links to the portfolio you guys currently have? Does it protect the pages well?

I have something like this: http://www.michaels.com/ITOYA-Original-Art-Profolio%C2%AE-Storage-and-Presentation-Book/fa1207,default,pd.html?cgid=products-artsupplies-portfolios%26presentationcases-artportfolios&start=8

I've even seen them for sale at London Drugs in the digital arts/computer section. I usually take mine with me when I got to convention to throw all my OA in that I happen to buy.

  4. I love me some OA <3. I still don't own anything from CHEW but I hope to be able to get a cover, but not sure how long that waiting list is :/

I really like the portfolio too, protects your art and lets you flip through it and check it out. Maybe you can start a service to SLAB OA pages lol

  5. For a IMAGE title that is quite a lot. Especially a #1. But it's BKV so it had a lot of hype right from the beginning.

I think you're being too reserved here - for an Image title, this is an enormous print run. Walking Dead, in comparison, has a print run around 31-32k and it's taken 95 issues to get there.

Anything else to compare it to? What did WD #1 and Chew #1 do? Even something like Batman #1 2011?

I believe Walking Dead #1 is around 7000 and Chew is really low too.

  6. Hello Chew Fans. I just started reading this series a few months ago and I feel in love with the beautiful art work and the well-written story-telling. It was my first comic after a 20+ year hiatus. It was a crazy long time but Chew got me hooked on comics again!!! Does anyone know how I can score a Chew #1 CGC 9.9? I would love to start my new collection with a bang.

Welcome :) love to see more people excited about CHEW and comics in general. As far as a 9.9 goes I'll wait for Branget to respond as he would probably know :P

Here is one t hat sold on ebay to get an idea of cost:

You can also check out the "Want to buy" section of the forum and put a post up saying you are looking for a 9.9.

  8. People that work in the comic business in general do not get into it because they want to make money. They get into comics because they love the medium. Because they love reading/telling stories. Especially when it comes to creator-owned work. Most of them do what they love, if they can make some cash along the way that's just secondary.

  9. By the way, I really enjoyed Saga.

Then enjoy it. I applaud her devotion to the title being a higher priority than milking it for every $ she can. I really enjoy buying Chew OA and I was one of many trying to find Saga OA initially. At the end of the day I enjoy the start of the book and that's the most important.

So I will  now for all the graded copies I'm about to sell. Blame Krighton. He influenced me to do it. :sumo:

What if Rob went only digital?

Then I wouldn't own any Chew OA.

    :ohnoez:
  10. I think you are the one looking at it from a business sense and Fiona is looking at it from an artistic point of view. She wants to create art and has a passion to create comics. Most artist's have a passion to create, not to make money. The money would be secondary to them. If they wanted to make money they would be in a different business.

I agree with you that financially it would be wise for her to do her work in a way that allowed her to sell OA but I wonder what it would her cut in the end would be.

At the moment she is getting paid for all the art. If she did it on paper then she might have to get an inker + colorist involved. I'm confused a little bit with what the argument is? Are we saying that digital artists do not have the same talent as pencil + paper?

  11. Eh, whatever. So is she saying that she really wouldn't have a career in comics if it weren't for a computer? I know there are always 'defend the creator' people on here, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it's kind of weak she can't bust it out on paper. She could do layouts digitally then print it and ink. Tons of amazing artists do this, like Mark Brooks and Ruan Ottley. She is sitting on wasted cash, wouldn't you find a way to tap it and still keep the final product solid?

Who knows, maybe back in the day she would not have made it as a comic artist because she would have been too slow but why not use the tools that are available? Also to note is she does all the color's. She does everything but letter SAGA.

    This is from another interview:

"Fiona Staples - I work almost entirely digitally. The benefits are speed and being able to easily edit my work as I go. Also, the fact that pencils, inks and colours are all done in Photoshop makes it easier for me to integrate these three stages and go back and forth between them if I need to- for instance, make changes to my linework while I'm in the middle of colouring it."

In the end I see what you are saying but, if her working digitally means I get to read an issue of SAGA every month without being late then i'll take digital art all day. 2c
