Yep, 4.5, maybe 5.0...too many color breaking creases for anything higher.
-
Yep, 0.5 sadly...back cover is barely there. Probably not worth sending in for formal grading, IMHO.
-
9.2 maybe? Really nice, clean copy!
-
3.0-3.5 IMO. Don't see a ton of #1 on this title, nice!
-
Very nice! Those white covers are so tough to keep bright! Without seeing it in person, maybe 7.0? I can see a few spine nicks and significant yellowing on back cover, bottom corner is blunted some too. Edge of cover has wear.
-
I agree, 5.0 is about right. I said 5.5 initially, but after looking closer at the left leg scratch, said 5.0. Nice copy though!
-
4.0-4.5 IMO. Spine stuff is pretty bad, but the pages are light cream, so that may grab a 4.5.

4.0 at best for me. And yes usually the blank UPC means its a Whitman.
-
Maybe 4.0-4.5 range or so, i'd say.
-
I'd say 4.5-5.0 or so, roughly.

Picked up 11 late 70's Incredible Hulks from mycomicshop.com to fill in my run. Wow! Is it just me, or are their 'VF' grade books like 9.0-9.4?? I couldn't find much wrong with them at all, even in the light. 7 of them literally looked like they were fresh newsstand copies! Am I just lucky or something?
-
I'm starting on my Incredible Hulk run (1st series) and hoping to get a full run this coming year, all F or better, preferably VF or higher. I had it once years ago, but had to sell it. Have a few already.

and my ex-wife used to call Earl's wife "the Dragon Lady"... I seldom saw her smile or make a joke...What a great place that was...
Wow strange...she always used to greet me with a smile and call me 'hon' and all of that. I suppose since Earl liked me, she was ok with me too.
On Victory, yes...his later days when I last went there were quite grim, if I recall. Books that looked like they had been sitting there awhile, and pretty bare new book shelves too. A sad ending, indeed.

The same hype was done by Earl at Passport comics in North Hollywood back in the 80s. He'd put a bunch of common books on the wall, create a theme around them, and then charge 10X guide to his unsuspecting, uneducated customers. He did that over and over. He was like a carnival shill. Now, don't get me wrong...I'm sure Earl was a knowledgeable guy and I enjoyed his antics, but I never bought anything from him. I'd go find it somewhere else at a fraction of the price.
Yeah, I was a huge fan of Earl's (my name makes that obvious) and he helped spread the love of comics and collecting to me when I was very young, teaching me how to grade and spot trends in heroes and key issues. As I got older, he resorted to more and more "antics" to make a living, and I soured on him a bit. A real shame.
-
For me, VF (8.0) or higher is considered 'higher' grade, and the more difficult to find with older books. 5.0-7.5 is mid grade, and below 5.0 is lower grade.
-
Going out with a bang.
I'm surprised the account is still open.
Wonder what happened? Odd. It probably will be closed very soon, and he's on my block list already.

And down goes CC again.
Whoever could have seen that coming?
For a retailer, I am surprised how he does this without thinking of the new customers he doesn't gain on here due to his actions.
A long while back, he gave a guy a hard time for posting his Ebay listings in the appropriate area ONLY because the guy was selling them on Ebay, and not here.
He's got BSD syndrome and might not even know it.

Since his AIM name is 'cockybrock' I tend to doubt its news to him.

Passport Comics and Earl Bowman in NOrth Hollywood

Yep, Earl was big for me too in terms of comics. Taught me how to grade, collect and take care of them the right way as a youngster. My current store, Passport Comics, is a riff/tribute on that store's name. Some of the books I still own were from there.
