  1. Looks like the 2nd print is gone from Larry's site.

    They were NOT second prints.

    It was an incorrect picture.

I have to wait & see what Image ships for their second print Bedlam tomorrow.

Sorry. The pic originally said second print. I think that caused the confusion. Carry on.

  2. Festus? I bought a Bedlam NYCC from a Festus eBay seller that looked like they'd rolled it up and put it in their backpocket. I would surprised if it wasn't the same seller. How many comic flippers could Festus, MO have?

Yep! One of the two is the same seller. I don't want attack the seller cass I don't know them...

  3. Andy, publishers don't care about the secondary market. Bedlam No. 1 is a sellout as are all of the variants, Deadpool No. 1 is a sellout, Bedlam No. 2 will sell out as will the variants. I haven't read Great Pacific, but if its as good a book as others indicate then it is going to sell out. Larry's program is not going to fail nor is it going to interfere with the sales of the regular covers. Clearly you're upset that the 50 or so copies of the regular Bedlam cover you purchased haven't appreciated in value as you had hoped. Don't worry, they will. The print run is not going to be as substantial as Larry predicts. Personally, I don't like it when a publisher permits variants covers for conventions, regional variants, etc. I think it sucks for people like me who aren't aware that this happening and order a bunch of copies of the regular cover. But when the covers are as beautiful as the Forbidden Planet, Third Eye and Phantom variants - I don't mind nearly as much. Yes I prefer for their not to be so many variants. Yes I think its bad for new readers who are discouraged by this kind of thing and many, like yourself, perceive it as a cash grab. But don't hate the player. Hate the game. There is nothing wrong with the retailers who do this and I personally appreciate that the Phantom variant program shows a substantial investment in the book by supporting and promoting it for 6 issues. Yes, I think the program would be more successful if the Phantom variant program created a database that permitted each person to buy two NM copies of each Phantom variant for cover price (2.99 or 3.99 or even 4.99 each), but that's not what Larry and his group of retailers decided to do. Yes it sucks that guys like you who live in another country have to spend top dollar to get these variants and to a less extend it stinks that guys like me can't pick up these books at a reasonable price beceause we don't live in the vicinity of one of the participating retailers. I hope that this changes. It is not going to change because of your rude comments just like these variants (and other variants) aren't going to spontaneously going to become worthless because you bad mouth them. Remember that you attract more with kindness than with rudeness. You should try it. In the case of Bedlam, the Third Eye, Detroit and Forbidden Planet variants are going to be bigger dollar books than the regular cover just like the NYCC and NYCC sketch is going to demand a bigger dollar amount than the regular cover. But people like books that are distributed by the publisher. Take a look at Thief of Theives with it's print run of nearly 20K for the regular issue in comparison to the ICE variant and Comicspro variants if you need empirical evidence. That being said, those variant covers aren't worthless or undesirable. Try and be positive about all the good this program is doing for the artists who are getting exposure and for the creators who are making some extra cash on these books. Please don't obsess about the downside of the program simply because you purchased a boat load of the regular cover. Have some faith in the title that you apparently enjoy, invested in, etc. It's a good book and good work is rewarded by fans on the retailer market and on the secondary market. Please don't be such a Debbie Downer when it comes to these books. The cover to Bedlam No. 2 is simply amazing and may never have been made but for this program. Similarly, I'm thrilled that Charles P, Wilson III got some well deserved exposure and I'm happy that Larry is going to continue to give some well deserved exposure to great artists. Here's hoping that 25% of the people who purchased one or more of Wilson's variant covers went out an ordered a Stuff of Legend trade. As hard as it is, try and look on the bright side. There is a lot of upside to the Phantom variant program. Finally, there's no reason that you or anyone else needs to buy every variant let alone multiple copies of every variant. If you don't want a particular variant,, then don't buy it. There's no requirement that you do.

If you want them all, then maybe you can get lucky and find a cool boardie who lives by one of the participating stores to pick you up a cover or a few copies of the Phantom variant covers at their cost. I know I wish I had already been able to do so, but you seem to get along well with the 5 or 6 people who vocally bad mouth me. Maybe one of them will do it for you. I guess what I'm saying is that I wish you would support what people do on the board to help creators, support the success of other board members, etc.

After all, it's not a zero sum game. Just because the Phantom and Ghost variant projects are making money doesn't mean that its coming out of your pocket. Believe me there's a lot of fans and a lot of disposable income to go around. Give credit when it is due and wish people the best. I certainly wish you and others who say nasty about me the best because that's the right thing to do. I think if you start doing that that people will do their best.

So that's my long winded opinion and you can take it for what it's worth, but please give it some thought before you summarily reject it. .

Didn't read this, can someone give me cliff notes? All I saw was this.

Kid won't eat his pudding. Bob Hoskins shows up. Kid (now an adult) shaves off his eyebrows and nipples. Nazis.

  4. You guys are being too hard on Andy. Artists, writers, editors, inkers, letterers, colorists, printers, distributors and retailers should all join together in a non profit cooperative and produce comics for free. They should all have blank covers and feature stirring tales of the heroic struggle of the proletariat resting control of the means of production from the evil bourgeoisie. :ohnoez:

The Better Red Than Dead variant?

  5. If you are an adult who can generate sufficient income to buy variants and have Internet access which will give you all the information you require to make an informed purchase, then go for it.

All the social workers around here should off and let adults spend their money how they please.

Couldn't agree more - this was what I meant when I asked who the "people who didn't know any better" were.

And if your "spending a weeks pay" on comics you've got bigger problems.

  6. If you want to talk disturbing...just flip open Black Kiss...didnt even read it...that was enough for me...

    +1

I pick it up, but it's not on my pull list...for fear that they'll kick me out of the LCS.

  7. I ordered books from her and she indicated that she's been preoccupied with family who are suffering from Sandy related weather that this has delayed the delivery of our comics. This is the form email she sent to me in reference to both of my purchases:

Hi there, I have the books ready to send and will update with a tracking # by Monday afternoon, it's been a hectic week having relatives over in Maryland dealing with the hurricane and trying to help them as much as I can. Unfortunately getting the items out in the mail that I sold got lost in the fray. But don't worry you shall be receiving your item(s) soon. They are awesome!

Thanks again and sorry for the inconvenience.
