  1. Although copies above strict VF are very rare, exceptions

do come up once in a blue moon. It's too bad that so many

of these gems are hidden away - they are IMO some of the

most beautiful examples of early comics ever produced. I

am trying to do my little part to make them more accessible

    to anyone who enjoys them.

  2. POV,

Like almost all of my best finds, this came from a private collector

who wrote to me after seeing my posts here or (in this case) one

of my eBay auctions. Since I scanned in my collection of MM Mags

in the spring, I have gotten several fantastic leads from long time

owners of incredible books. Apparently, after seeing my page these

people sensed my enthusiasm for early Disneys and I suspect that

was a bigger incentive for them than the actual price. This particular

book had been off the market for almost two generations along with

many equally incredible copies that I am getting. The story behind

them is really interesting but unfortunately I promised the seller to

keep it confidential. I just wanted to post a few since I have never

seen books of this caliber before myself - even the set of file copies

    I bought at Sotheby's doesn't come close.

  3. This 1936 book is part of a large set of beautiful copies that I just

closed a deal on (hope the seller won't mind me showing it here).

The first few MM Mags are incredibly hard to find in any condition

(this particular issue is blank space in Gerber's guide); the second

nicest copy I've ever seen was a VG-.

  4. The colors on that "Fantastic Novels" are awesome - great cover too!

    Arty (Re: Finnish edition WDCS):

I am currently bidding on this very rare 1948 Danish edition that

came out a year before the first issue of our local "Donald Duck"

(started in 1949 and has been running continuously ever since).

Do you know if there were similiar editions in Finland and the

    other Scandinavian countries?

  5. Shiver,

Thanks for the panel. Just out of curiosity, what is iyo the

3 goriest pre-code stories ever published (POV, I'd be curious

to hear your answer as well)?

Edit: On second thought, let's keep this particular thread sacred.

    Below is another picture instead.

  6. POV,

Funny you feel that way. I am just blown away by that Eerie #1 and would have

gone very far to get it if I had not already committed to other deals.

    Bonds:

    > Do the early issues in FN usually bring around guide price, or more?

After I upgraded, I sold my own (non-certified) #6 FN on eBay for $811. These have

been bringing way more than guide recently (2-3x is typical).

  7. Thanks for posting those POV & 'NUT. It's really cool that

we have so many interests represented here! Any chance

you could show us some interior highlights of what offended

    Dr. Wertham?

Here is one of my own recent purchases; prettiest early issue

of this run I ever saw. I am in the middle of two other deals

with even more incredible books; will try to post some pics

    when I have them.
