  1. So what do you think someone like Bob S pulls in a year? $500k to $1million?
  2. this is one of those 1940s Batman tryout pages. Copied from the original HA auction "Here is an unusual piece, giving us a peek into the process of drawing Batman during the 1940s. This partially inked page depicts a fist fight between the Dark Knight and his arch-rival the Joker. The art may have been a "try-out" page that was lightbox-penciled (off the original, published page) by a production artist in order to give potential inkers a tryout, or it may have been used in a classroom situation. It is all but certain that Bob Kane and his staff had no direct connection with this piece. Still, the paper, artwork, and ink are vintage from the early '40s, making this an interesting curio from the time. A fairly clean piece with light smudging and no white-out, in Very Good condition, measuring 13" x 18".
  3. That line-up gets my vote for most bizarre team-ups ever.
  4. Wait, Marvel is still publishing comics? Learn something new every day. In all seriousness, I quit buying new Marvels over 10 years ago. I have picked up stuff off the rack and looked through it but the artwork
  5. Not only one of the better black covers but also one of the top romance covers as well !
  6. I don't even think about the sales tax when bidding.
  7. I go long stretches without looking through them these days, like 6 months. I think that is in large part to actually getting some stuff hanging. I find every time I look through my folios I come away saying "I really need to get that framed" and on a few more pieces saying "I really should sell that". Then I walk away doing neither ...
  8. For me it was when In was 12 and sent off for the San Mateo comic art catalog and saw the amazing OA in it. A few years later I spent a fortune ($20) to order two pieces of art from them. Long since sold off.
  9. Oh yeah, this guy is bonkers, but I will say he picks out copies with nice eye appeal
  10. CC auction starts 5/13/19 and then ends 6/11/19. 4 weeks seems too long time between start and finish.
  11. Bob Storms made a comment once I think that a book has 10 presses in it before it is done.
  12. What designer did you wear to the awards ceremony?
  13. That is my experience, typically said to negotiate a lower price. I have sold books before that were for peoples permanent collection, would never see the light of day again only to see them in a few months later for sell. Disappointing to me but once I sell them, not mine anymore.
  14. Different grades yes but way different eye appeal. The Batman 1 looks like rusty staples that have bled through the paper.
  15. I know some knucklehead that speculates in GA Batman's. Cant imagine him ever making his money back.
  16. How do we know the Beyonder is really the Beyonder and not some sort of clone or replicant?
  17. I know I overpaid for every single piece of OA in my collection, some by as much as 2x. The good thing is I held them to the point where many are worth as much as 20x what I paid for them. My strategy is to have a very small number of items I want from a content/artist point of view and then wait for the right piece to show up in an auction. I set my max bid and try to really stay below that level. My max bid is my best estimate based on what similar pieces have sold for as well as how much I like the piece but recognize I will pay more than what must others will pay in order to win it. This mean picking up maybe one piece a year although last year I scored 3 Peanuts dailies
  18. Dude, that is a great run to chase and finishing it is quite the accomplishment too !
  19. A more recent goal was to land a Charles Schulz Peanuts strip. I was going to be happy with scoring a strip I liked but somehow I ended up snagging (i.e. paying a ton for) three strips I love. Now I have the new goal to snag a Sunday but going to wait for the right one.
