  1. So a few months after I started buying comics (again) I saw an ad for some books on CL. Turns out the guy used to shop at an old comic shop I went to as a kid aka Comic Kingdom in Chicago (I'm sure a lot folks would know the owner) we went to the same grammar school so we hit off.

We talked back and forth and finally met up and brought some comics from him. I got about $300 worth of ASM from all eras. When I got home, I checked the books and found some major damage, cut outs etc in the interior. I talked to him and he apologized and said he had no knowledge that the books were damaged on the inside. This was all new and I took him at his word and he promised a discount on the next set of books.

We continued to have transactions, I kept buying some of his keys, life was good until I noticed that his only copies he was selling me, we're being posted again and again on CL. I was told he was selling me his only best copy, that he personally brought with his mom etc

At this point we had a falling out as he started accusing me of trying to rip him off for not wanting to pay his prices even though I would quote GPA, eBay etc (I became better informed of FMV) he kept accusing me of trying to rip him off when I brought up how he had lied about selling me his only copy that his mom had brought him when he had 4 more copies he was selling. I also said I'm not the one who sells books that are damaged and claimed not to know it. He lost it at that point and I walked away.

He sold me those bad books at the price he knew they weren't, or else why was he keeping the better copies along the way, I understand this is just my speculation and I could never prove it but it did seem suspicious

He kept posting ads about how he needed to sell his books because his girlfriend wanted him to sell them, then it was his fiancé , then it was his mom getting mad for selling the family jewels. He also put that he needed to pay his vet bills, etc.

He needed to sell and sell now. But he didn't and he can't. Every dealer and collector that I know locally laughs at this guy and his prices way over eBay or anything close to FMV. The minute you try to negotiate he starts losing it. Many other folks have gone to see the collection and walked saying what an a hole he is.

I saw this ad and though ha. The GF got sick of him. But then I thought how does she know so much about the books. And why does the add look exactly like his. With the same prices, same notes.

It's probably him trying to find another sucker.

Whoh - thanks for the background jsilverjanet

  2. Thanks for all the comments on the N64 stuff guys, it was a great score because of the conker's.

I plan on keeping them but I may sell someday... I need to beat Conker's first tho :)

@ Eddragon : I would definitely test them before you sell them, to avoid any nasty returns.. Unless you want to put "untested" and maybe make less cash. Generally games *should* work... but you never know.

    Thanks ForlornOutcast

I guess I'll have to find a working version of the following consoles::

    Atari 2600

    NES

    Sega Gensis

I have about 40-50 carts for each system but no working system to test.

    Thanks again!

  3. Nice bronze haul today at a garage sale. 133 books for $40. All Marvel (besides 2 Batmans): ASM, FF, Iron Man, Avengers, Hulk, Cap, Marvel Team Up, Thor, Dr. Strange, Daredevil.

They had 2 more bins of books, but I only had 40 bucks on me, so I mix'n'matched one bin to come up with this lot.

Mostly VG-Fine. The biggest problem is there is a slight musty smell to the comics. Probably stored in a basement for a long time!

    Wow! Awesome haul for $40!

  4. I decided to check out the local flea market and kill some time yesterday morning.

This flea market that I go to never really has any comic stuff. Most of the time it's estate sale jewelry or local fresh baked goods. But this time I saw two different vendors with random comic boxes.

I picked up 23 books for $20. Here is a quick snap of them

  5. Its a build in progress. Started on nov 29 Wife wanted more space. I wanted a comic book room/ theater. So had alittle money saved up from selling off some comics. Did some searching. Bought most of lumber from auction. But still had to pay home depot about $6000. Drew up the plans got approved. Then watched a few utube videos. Of roof removal with a crane. I figure if they can why cant I. Removed roof on a friday had it placed baack on by monday. My neighbor helped me frame 1200 sqft top floor in few days. Cost so far less then $12,000 most labor I have done. When all done we should be under $18sqft. But I will have my room 10x 20.

I will update room when all done about 3 months away

Now yes i have sold most of all my graded comics. So i will be restocking soon. It was a agreement with wife that when house was done. Refinace and pull some equity for comics around $15,000 is what i could get her to agree on. So be posting update in 3 months of finished house/ comic book room.
