  1. Yes It was actually the cartoon that I saw as a kid. I remembered the depiction of the golden ratio and other things quite distinctly. I was only 4 in 59 so it must have showed later. I think it was on the Sunday night Wonderful World of Color from the early sixties It was because of the cartoon that i wanted the comic.

I would love to see the half sheet.

I will dig through my stuff and see if I have a scan of it. In the meantime, not the whole short but a nice snippet so you get the idea

  2. This thread was inspiring me to try to go for a full run of Four Colors until I saw yours.

I realizied that starting off with only 100 or so and even trying to get decent copies would take the rest of my life and more $$$$$$ than i want to invest there. I still want to try to get a really nice assortment of FC's and would love to trade for the ones that I don't have.

Since I am an Actuary I have always loved this one and even have it on display in my office.

I do not know if you are aware, this title was a Donald Duck short cartoon from the 1959 and there is a half-sheet 22 inches x 28 inches that goes for around $75-$100 I will try and find you a jpeg of one if that is something you care about.

  3. YOW!

Your posts are knocking me out. I know I'll never have a copy of Adventure Bound like that because there may not be another copy of Adventure Bound like that. Dells are the neglected stepchildren of the comic-book industry, although they outsold most of today's favored sons.

Wonderful stuff. Keep on posting them!

    "inky dinky parlay foo" HAW!!

What was "Adventure Bound"? Was it original to comic books or did it come from some other source?

Honestly, I have no idea. I was just using it as an example of the amazing, often obscure, Four Color books in primo condition that have been parading through this thread. My hat is off to bullet123. My personal grails are the Walt Kelly books. Personally, I'd love to have a run of FC reader copies that I could actually look at and smack on the scanner whenever the spirit moved me, but the high-grade copies here are astonishing to see.

If you are patient and willing to wade through EBAY, most of these books on EBAY in reader condition can be purchased for less than $20 (except the ducks)

  4. OK Gents...both of these super high grade non-keys sold for exactly $27,600 in 2005. Which one would you choose, and why ????

for me, I could find a far better use of $27,600 then either of these 2 books, but if I had to choose, I would go with the Bat !

Well, I own one of them and was the underbidder on the other so I guess I like them almost equally thumbsup2.gif

  5. Great, great books Bullet - thanks for sharing them!! 893applaud-thumb.gif893applaud-thumb.gif

Are you trying to complete the entire Four Color series, or just the early books??

Psycho that I am, the entire run. I figure it should take about twenty years. Five to ten years for the first 75%, then 10-20 years for the rest. There is at least one complete run out there that I know of, however I am trying to put it together in VF or better. An impossible task, I realize, but I will not start settling for lower graded copies until I run out of nice, tremendous eye appeal copies to pick up which I am assuming will take at least the next five or so years. For me, there are no must haves, so I will not put pressure on myself to pick up certain issues over others and settle on quality. I pick them up as they become available and my budget allows.

An admirable quest if ever there was one! 893applaud-thumb.gif It's great to see so many different FC covers all in one place. The fairy tale/nursery rhyme covers are absolutely fantastic.

All those scans and I can't even keep this thread on the first page. Talk about unloved
