  1. As much as I like her cover. I can't justify paying that much for a modern cover on a book that will either be a boom or bust. If the book becomes a classic than it may be a worthwhile investment, but if it bombs that cover will only be worth a couple thousand in a year or two. Who ever buys it may get burned on it. There are only a couple of covers that will maintain their price regardless of how the book does. Kuberts NYCC program book because it is a classic and simple cover, the stock cover, Millers and Lee's.

    +1

If you want to buy a Fabok cover, get one of his outstanding Justice League covers where he is doing some kick-butt original work. On DKIII, the multitude of variant covers for only dilutes the overall impact of the book, except for the completionists. I don't see very many of them holding what is likely a hefty initial purchase price. And the success of the book is ultimately dependent on the content being revered, something that DKII certainly can't point to as an achievement. But Jason's JL art holds its own, and those might be worth the price down the road.

Full disclosure: I own two of Jason's Detective covers.

  2. What a clever idea. Good job!

Where did you get the blanks? I might do this for my wife's birthday.

They are from Starbucks. Comes with a black and white pen that permanently affixes once baked at 450F. I picked these up about six months ago, but haven't been looking to see if they still readily carry them. More useful than a commission for me at least. A couple years ago, they had tall dark mugs, with white ink...that would look pretty cool with the right artist's treatment.

The pitfall with this little project is that the ink easily comes off with the slightest abrasion, prior to getting put in the oven. I tried getting multiple artists at NYCC last year, and as it got handled, the unbaked ink from the prior artists got smudged by the new artist putting on their picture. But it still ended up looking good enough for my morning joe.

  3. Another installment in my coffee cup collection, with the ink permanently baked into the porcelain cup. This time its Mike Grell with Green Arrow on one side and Warlord on the other!

Thanks to Catskill for accommodating my bizarre request, but this way I get to see some of my favorite OA every morning to start my day!

I have one more out there getting done with the full treatment (I hope), and that will be it for this little project. I don't need that many coffee cups...

  4. Picked up the entire Scott Snyder/Sean Murphy 12-page Batman story shown in Detective #27. Been sitting on it for a year, so figured it was time to share it.

Lots of future Batman/Robin combinations, including the first African-American Robin. Plus a bunch of new Bat-suits and villains.

They both have said they would love to visit and flesh out these future Gothams, so hopefully we get to see these characters again. The Pacific Rim Court of Owls robot looks awesome...

4-page scene from Rachel Rising #29, with an emotional punch. This is the second time I've bought consecutive pages from Terry Moore...the pacing and writing are outstanding.

  6. Picked up Clay McCormack's pages from Cafe Racer, published last month by Essential Sequential. Over the summer, Sean Murphy (Punk Rock Jesus, The Wake, etc) coordinated an "apprenticeship" for a group of budding artists where they worked alongside Sean on all aspects of being a successful artist in the comics industry. The result of the live-in apprenticeship was Cafe Racer, which Sean's wife wrote, and each of the apprentices contributed a section of pages and character designs. I really liked the work that Clay did in his five pages.

You can order the book directly from Essential Sequential.

  7. Just a reminder that the complete auction of my slabbed Batman books (a near complete run from #201 - 253, all high-grade) will be ending in two days (this Tuesday night, Dec 2) on ComicLink.com. A lot of effort went into assembling this #1 registry run, and there are some choice books that are really difficult to find.

    Obviously the highlights are the #227 9.8, #234 9.8, #232 9.8, #222 9.8, #251 9.8 and #238 9.4 (top grade for this impossible to find book), but there are a lot more in-between books.

Its a lot of books to sell/buy at one time, but Comic Link does offer time payments for buyers who want to seize this opportunity to go after this run with all high-grade books.

    Best of luck!

    Bob

I should have taken a picture of the horde when I boxed them up to ComicLink, but here is a nice representative sample!
