  1. I love Marvel, DC, Image, IDW Eclipse and others....... all add value for all are of equal importance to me...Now and Then. Please note the Speed Racer car and the merman surfer dudeI have always loved BOOKS. Since I have been collecting...non stop from 1979 (I would say earlier But before it was more of a chapter of adolescent reading). My point is simple....I reflect on my filing cabinets of books and still find the same thing. I Love PASSION. Alan Moore was huge to me and Frank Miller...those were the days...Now These days are ever so superb. There are so many great creations out there. Grab them....I still do. I must say I am as intense as I was when I was a teenager (but more attentive to the SPINE) This chapter is going out to Brandon Shepherd (?) for promising to get back with my Christmas ornaments. Considering I am a Father, Christmas is SOOOOOOO COOOOOOOL.For me it is not about Jesus and such as Santa but an inspiration I felt that drove me to Love COMICS.... I took the ornaments off today and here is a Journal to Brandon; My daughter HATES that I love My Surfer Merman dude. He makes me very happy and every year she watches where I am going to place it on the tree...Great stuff being a dadTo see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 2. I love Howard the Duck. He is a character. I believe Howard is the first Marvel super hero movie. Howard the Duck described the times perfectly and his cigar makes me laugh I had these submitted by Twin City Auctions (Torrey goes to most shows and I HIGHLY recommend his services). Frank Brunner and Val Mayerik were attending the same show. I opened up the two and both came back 9.8 SS. I believe the Fear #19 (1st app. of Howard) is the only SS to date. Either way I am very pleased to add a bit more sentiment to these two books. Also my SS books shipped today that Kahalo had SS for me (I thank you kind sir) but this is for a later journal when I receive them. There are so many great folk here and I am thankful for the ones I know and for the new ones that might come my way.......... Cheers To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 3. I bought this when it came out for some reason that it was interesting. I have never read this book. I am not a huge Dave Sim fan but he has had a HUGE impact within the independent comic book industry. Cerberus #1 is one of the top copper age books. I did not know this at the time but found the cover interesting. I would ride to a comic shop (sometimes with my younger brother) and the ride must have been 9 miles. Saturdays were the days when I got my money from mowing lawns and went to Stellas to buy books. He was an intense guy and very intimidating. This is a book I may submit but the story is, by far, more memory for my sandwich To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  4. Going to submit this to NY Comics this year I sometimes wonder why people do not want to SS this Book ? collectors do not find the importance in DOING IT?...challenge me ....lets have a 30 day fun spread....SS Stanley....never done....VISIONS<<<<<<<I am ready to do the 30 day trial To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 5. WAITING FOR STANLEY SS This is something I have never done. I want to, I appreciate so many opinions and excellent minds in this SPACE. My first journal of the day is this, I enjoy getting SS books and find that, in time, an SS will surpass a universal grade. I pay attention to the older folk that attend Comicons.....They are so important to my collecting. In 40 years....which will be more admired? An SS or a standard universal? Here it becomes not about anything but envisioning.... Here is DAY 1 To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  6. I bought 2 of the Steranko Batman covers for my brother...thanks for sharing
  7. I give it a 9.4...one of my favorite covers....I love the dialog Neal Adams makes me happy. Even more so, his wife is an excellent business head. I wanted to she=are this very nice book as I am getting a sig from NEAL....... To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  8. 99 cent books people get TOO good of deals For the first time I tried the 99 cent deal and found it was amusing. When I play a 99 cent game for an item I mean to get it...not to wait and have 5 watchers towards the last hours and finally bid. I paid $18.00 for that slab or EVEN more if it is 1979 and earlier (standard).....and here I am selling it for $5.50. I do not mind that as much as having 7 watchers waiting for a 99 cent book...I was going somewhere else with that. Why did I submit it in the first place? Let me say it again WHY DID I SEND IT IN TE FIRST PLACE. okay........I feel better That is okay with me. My space is less confined but I am asking a serious question here. I now start more meaningful books at 9.99 and I feel I need to keep the comic industry IN AWESOME MODE Then there are the sellers asking way more but willing to deal. I LIKE THIS I also Love to see how a 99 cent book goes....quite random but not for me anymore unless I am a Sparkle City....They have the people. Ebay sellers who price way too high are on the extreme. Where is the balance? Where is the Me and You Equal? I certainly want to make my money back and more but I do not want to Screw the Natural Order of Comicdom This is a comic that sold for $5.50 To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 9. Robert Crumb debut his underground book Zap in late 1968. I wonder if this Marvel book might be a staple for Independent creators. P.C. the Pussycat......funnyAs I looked inside the book, the bountiful and bouncy Babe is startling even in our generation. Wally Wood and Bill Everett were involved as well as Stan Lee and his younger brother Larry Lieber. Frank Zappa has his own front page spread. A very cool book and this book seems to me to be an 8.5 to 9.0.....Even an 8.0 would be Great. I wanted to journal this epic of a book...... any info on this subject please add....I find it very FascinatingTo see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  10. The 4 books were FF #9, FF #16, Iron Man #1 and X-Men #3.plus Lee K's very nice book I will not mention (lovely book) First of all, can someone help me understand how to put the 4 books in instead of using my scanner and newbing my way to show two pics? I am very excited to open slabs and get the ole' timers to SS.......... To a great year in collecting To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  11. I submitted this 9.9 to NY Comics for a double SS. I have the two 9.9 books for the sole purpose of submitting one for an SS. There are 277 9.8 books with 8 SS and only 1 universal and SS at 9.9. A total of 491 books have been submitted (I am sure there are MANY more out there not yet submitted).. In my late teens Alpha Flight intrigued me the most of any Marvel series. I can recall reading them excitedly and truly enjoyed the series. I will slowly submit my books but I truly want SS books for this series. It is so much more rewarding for me to get a sig And a 9.8 (or 9.6) without having to break open a slab.....Cheers as I am excited to share just yet.... It has been a very happy week as the books come back. My Amazing Spider-Man #238 was a 9.8, came back a 9.6 and had John Romita Sr and Jr., Shooter and Defalco sign it. I might want to resub for pressing...otherwise....too many artists touched it......oh well Sharing again.......TATA for now To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 12. Signed by Stan Lee And Joe Sinnott. Sent to NY Comics Master set. (giving Sean M. a big THANK YOU. Also a BIG thank you for the CCS Service (Matt) as I had my FF 48, DD 1 and IH 181 pressed to either insure a rise in grade or to stay the same...SCARY......A great service I recommendThis year I decided to open up some of my more special older books to get sigs for. I decided this for the main reason that once these people pass........no more sigs. They will be that much more special to me. I still am awaiting more and my DD #1 went up from an 8.5 to a 9.0............ Enjoy the summer everyoneTo see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  13. IT Worked........pleasure knowing you I asked Miraclemet if he could help me with a sig line like he does. It is not my gift to understand.......I thank YOU for a simple transaction kind SIR To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  14. In a previous journal I wrote about a man who NOONE should trust on EBAY (I will call him Bijou). This book was so misrepresented and I submitted it years back with my first coupon to receive a Restored 6.5. I am over that and learned a Big lesson though I love that I got FF #1 and Hulk #1 (both restored) and by the Bijou Baby person. I am writing this for two reasons. The important one is that this book dropped one whole grade from a 6.5 to a 5.5. I will call CGC tomorrow to get notes on it for I was very careful to unslab both books. The upside (though I do not care as much...except that the Incredible Hulk #1 was still a 6.5 and now SS Stanley) to this is that my 5.5 SS jumped over 2,000 points and my Incredible Hulk to over 3,000 points (I would much rather have a grade over CGC points). I am not complaining except that I want to know why my FF #1 went down to a 5.5 (I still have not registered it for I want to converse with CGC to see if I can obtain the 6.5 status again...Thoughts? here is to sharing.....My #10 Book To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 15. Don't forget The Meters...pre cursers to Disco....with ultra funk Also Funkadelics Maggot Brain is a must for any groovy folk (1970)...Bronze Age
  16. ONLY 2 SS books out of nearly 50 universals I went to ECCC this year and got Kurt Busiek (I also wanted Denny ONeil) to sign this book. Kurt is the man who brought Jean Grey back to life. I just posted it on EBAY to sell but I am reluctant to maybe Comiclink it....any ideas? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  17. NEAL ADAMS SKETCH COVER I submitted 2 of these and both came back 9.8......4 signatures were Neal Adams, Terry and Rachel Dodson and Matt Fraction......writer, art and cover..........I will sell the other soon on EBAY or Comiclink. Any suggestions? I feel Comiclink might be better for this is Very Special as the 4 people were all available at ECCC this year To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 18. This is the other book The cover is nice as well yet I prefer the Tim Vigil....though this man is certainly very classy (also a 9.6 after working the book) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  19. On front and back of the Walking Dead variant sketch cover (#75) I had 2 of these books to get original art on. One was for Tim Vigil and the other for Joseph Linser. They both came back a 9.6 but I am very happy with them. I put green tape on the "F" to not offend some people. I love Vigil's style...one of a kind To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  20. This is a special book I previously bought this Green Lantern for the sole purpose of getting it SS from ECCC. When I was with my daughter, brother and Tnerb we went to him first as the lines were mellow in the morning. Neal asked if I wanted it personalized and I said Yes, To RONNYLAMA...he had a hard time trying to spell it out and commented "You're starting to Scare me" He has a wit I enjoyed....On Sunday Denny O'Neil Finally showed (he was not feeling well) and as I was ready to close all my books out I immediately went to O'Neil to have him sign 12 books (including this one.) Great time Here is the link to my other journal with picture of Denny O'Neil, Larry Hama and Gerry Conway http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/JournalDetail.aspx?JournalEntryID=13175 To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 21. WILLOW IN MOJO OK....JUST LET THE MOMENTS MEAN SOMETHING....If I could span on the idea that at least 5 posts should be recognized.... TNERB in True and Wonderful FORM is that a Nearly 2 hour line to meet Claremont? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  22. Denny ONeil, Larry Hama and Gerry Conway The biggest highlight I have ever had happen to me happened on Sunday at the ECCC. Denny ONeil had been sick and I had been anxiously watching and waiting for him to show. He was sitting next to Howard Chaykin. I was ready to close my orders and a gentlemen came up with 10 Star Wars #1 books signed by Chaykin. I asked him if ONeil was sitting at the table and he said he was. YES...I immediately got the kid in me to prompt a witness and LILLY (bless her heart and great MOJO) came with me. I first shook his hand and then proceeded to place my books out for him (Starting with my Green Lantern #76 previously signed by Neal Adams. As my Power Man and Iron Fists and ASM were finished my last one was Daredevil #18 (pictured). This was the moment that everything stood still. He smiled and went inward for a time and began talking (as if it was yesterday) about the significance of the book. He said that this is when Stan Lee gave me the reins on Daredevil. It was very profound as he held his pen staring at the book. I started getting teary and choked up....shook his hand and wiped my eyes. Lilly asked if I wanted a picture with him and at first refused...then said OK. I handed her my phone and WHAT HAPPENS next is just too great to be true. Larry Hama and Gerry Conway were with Denny (seeming to check on him) Denny knew I was moved by his story and I asked him if I could get a picture. He glanced at both friends and then me and ...Well a picture does say a thousand words. What a gift. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  23. Happy Valentines Day part 2 I could do a magazine size for it as well....I would hate to ask her to do another To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  24. My daughter made me a great card and Tnerb gave me the idea to submit it. I think I could persuade the graders to put a 10 on this as I will pay to "Have it Framed". The inside is the best so I asked my daughter if she could make another one with just front and back then have CGC put a 10 on it....wouldn't that BE SPECIAL....and NO It Is Not For Sale...Thoughts? 25. I am excited to meet Neal Adams AND Denny O Neil I am going to get this book signed by O'Neil and Adams. I wanted to share as it will be a most excellent show. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
