  1. I saw this posted in a Facebook group, and wanted to see if anyone knew what the story was.  There's a Captain Marvel Adventures 7 and 9 up for sale with the notation <<"Southern States Food, Inc." insert glued to interior front cover.>>  It seems they were a margarine manufacturer out of Dallas.  The seller's pumping them as one of a kind.  I don't doubt it's rare to find a copy with the insert still attached, but does anyone know more about it?

  2. Syracuse, near the big mall.  I went to that store a few years ago, and left the shop swearing under my breath.  Had I received any service, I would've used that opening to swear much more loudly, but they were just chatting it up amongst themselves.  I think the pre-faded issues were priced at exactly twice Overstreet... $12 bronze ASM?  $24 sticker.  Lots of stock, tons of space, but terrible prices.  No surprise that the books hung on the wall unsold until they were ruined.

A boardie runs Collectibles Galore, a little north of there, which is a much better shop, and there's a fantastic fish restaurant on the way, the Clam Bar.  Both are worth a visit if you're in the area.

Hi! Guess this post is a bump and a question :)

I've read through the whole thread, looking for some talk about storing two comics in one bag. I'm considering putting one comic on either side of each board, spines reversed. Is this always a bad idea, when using Mylite 2 bags (725M2) with Fullbacks (700FB)? I'm looking to re-bag and board around 1000 modern age comics, and it would be great if I could save space and money by double-booking each bag. I've only ever used standard 24pt backing boards, so I have zero experience with the thicker FBs and mylar bags.

I realize most people go for the Gerber 725M2/700FB combo for modern books - for those that have experience with this combo, is there much "loose" plastic on the rear of the bag, when storing one book per bag? Is there enough room for an extra book in there? Despite people liking the 725/700 combo, I've always been partial to trying the 700M2/675FB route for moderns is cause, well, I like a tight fit...
And for some reason, I also prefer the aesthetic of 700/675 over 725/700. But is this really that bad of an idea? I definitely don't want the books sliding around in the bags, and I'm also looking to avoid having excess bag material on the backside. I currently have my modern age books in Current Age poly bags with Current Age 24pt boards, and though it's a snug fit, it doesn't seem *too* tight. And, it does seem like there is enough backing board covering the entirety of the rear of the comics... but I'm open to new ideas, as I'm relatively new at this stuff.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thank you kindly!

Standard is what everyone uses.  You want a little bit of clearance around the edges of the book so if there's a bump, the board takes it, and not the book.

Curious... does anyone use halfbacks and mylites for their cheapie/modern books?  I'm on the fence, but I really don't like the crinkle of a mylite.  If I like the series, it's getting a fullback and mylite2 no matter what it's worth.

Gosh, looks like most of you apart from 2 of yous have negative view on it rather than say keep your cash yous rather take mickey the that's fine with me took enough it in my life to have more so keep wasting your time on me please your loss.

Mickey as in Mickey Mouse?  If you're flipping that, condition is king, and you're more likely to find high grade Gemstones from the 90s than silver or bronze Dell or Gold Keys.

Wait, he's what?  Drunk?  Oh, never mind...

  5. Had the buyer not accused the seller of jerking him around, I think the explanation of the non-paying notice would have gone over smoothly, and business could continue.

The OP acted appropriately for the situation, but are comic guys always this immature and mouthy?  I know we're a solitary, unsociable bunch, but all of these arguments start because one guy screams "I'm Batman!" and ignites the situation.

The removal of the pictures (and the possible paper trail of a serial number if the book were to sell somewhere else).  The "bargain" price.  The immediate refund and the seeming initial indifference to finding the book (if I had been the seller, I would have been tearing my house apart to find the book to avoid having to do a refund, never mind the customer service implications).

That's where I'm at with this as well.  I strongly believe the offending party is using the prisoner's dilemma as his defense.  Deny everything, and accept lesser blame.  Does he think if he admits fault, that he's liable for finding a copy at full price to replace the lost one?  Is that all this is?  Either way, not someone I want to deal with, and I believe the buyer is now entitled to compensation before removal from the list is possible.

  7. I bought a 1974 Spirit coloring book locally, and on the first page was a sticker covering up the publisher's logo.  I started collecting in 1989, so I never got to do a lot of mail order.  Can anyone tell me more about this?  Mostly, are all copies of this book tagged, and where else might this have happened?

Being Quebec(I think) only, they're sort of tough.Took me a long time to find three and four-and I'm in capital city,so I can see Quebec from my back window, visit friends in Hull/Gatineau quite often.Finding them in higher grade was another challenge altogether!

Most people don't know how bad we have it.  Ottawa is comic-poor: a lot of small dealers asking big money for small books.  Gatineau/Hull is worse, all the back issues come from an overpriced Ottawa dealer.  There are probably a bunch of copies in Montreal, though.  Check with Rosaire Fontaine at the Walkley show, he's a good guy, and doesn't have the stink of a Montreal dealer on him that the others have.

  9. I've had issues with Heritage grading, but their customer service is impeccable.  I emailed them to get a (return) credit applied to a purchase, and they took care of it immediately.  Never asked about a time delay, though.
