ComicConnect's Next Event Auction has started posting books !
tpetty replied to batman_fan's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Is there a way to sort CC comic auctions by era/age? For example, at both Heritage and Comic Link I can choose to page through only Golden age books. Is there an easy way to do this - that I don't see - so that I can see what Golden Age books are up in the monthly auction without having to page through thousands of comics? -

Wow. some nice copies here! I only have a couple mid-grade copies - paid about $300 each 10 years ago! -
Nice. Great looking book - and even better price! (for the seller)

BEST AUCTION HOUSE FOR SELLERS OF GOLDEN AGE BOOKS
tpetty replied to N e r V's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
If CC/CL and Heritage both have the same book, with the exact same CGC grade, then I will bid less on the book on Heritage because of the extra buyer's fee, which most people take into account - so that my FINAL, REAL purchase price is the roughly the same on either site after taking into account the Heritage vig. While it's possible that if someone bids similarly on both sites (without factoring in the buyer's premium) because they don't understand the process, and that drives the total purchase price a little higher, it is the auction house - not the seller - that is making more. -
This is one of my all time favorite covers - and I'm not even a Sub Mariner fan. I always put in token bids for this issue, but WAY out of my price range though....

BEST AUCTION HOUSE FOR SELLERS OF GOLDEN AGE BOOKS
tpetty replied to N e r V's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
For really high dollar books, Heritage. For more typical Golden age, I think you are better off as the seller with CL or CC due to the much lesser house take. -
thanks. I will post to that thread and avoid further here. I didn't mean to duplicate!

ComicConnect's Next Event Auction has started posting books !
tpetty replied to batman_fan's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I didn't mean to start a new topic on this. I had searched for the connect thread, and didn't get any recent results - didn't realize I had to look almost a month back! I don't like the BP idea at all. I tolerate it at Heritage, because I figure it pays for the nice catlaogs, GPA links, the GREAT website with easy past auction searches as a price reference, etc - but not enthused about it at CC for what seems to be a vastly inferior web site, search, organization, etc. Seems a very poor idea - and I agree that they should have just made a deal with the seller for a reduced commission behind the scenes. -
I was just bidding on some books in the current Comic Connect auction, and see that many of them now also include a 15% Buyer's premium in addition to the bid. I've been used to factoring that in with Heritage in the past, but don't recall it with CC. Is this something new? It's possible I just haven't been paying attention...

Man, this thread makes me remember that I need to get a swamp thing set!

I'm still annoyed by how inaccurate golden age prices are. I hear the arguments - price guides are out of date as soon as printed, it's a "guide" only - so doesn't have to be accurate, he doesn't like changing prices too "quickly." It's all ridiculous. I buy mostly good girl art type covers, and have for years. For many years, you can not get a nice Rangers, Fight Comics, Junior Comics, Schomburg covers, etc etc etc without paying multiple times guide. Multiple times. For years. and years. I see no GOOD reason why the guide doesn't more accurately reflect prices. And I'm not a high roller - i am usually buying books under 1K, so it's not as if sales are rare. Many, many books have been out of whack for a long time.

What to do with hundreds of Golden Age comics?
tpetty replied to vcac's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Yep. With that in mind (even though I hope to not die for another 30-40 years) I have started to sell the 80s-90s comics I accumulated as a kid. Most of this era of comics are not worth much, but I have sold a couple long boxes worth on ebay, and have many boxes still to go. Some go decent (Infinity Gauntlet, McFarlane Spiderman, Miller Daredevil, etc.) If I can't get about 20% guide I put them in a donate box for a tax write off. Yes - 20% guide - and many aren't selling at that price. (Not touching my slabbed golden age comics, but those will be relatively easy to sell. It's the low value common copper/modern age ones - not unlike the funny animal books in this thread - that take work.) -
Yeah, I still buy the occasional art book from his online site.

Agree with both - that woman has a whole lot of chest between clavicles & breasts! - should auction it at some point.

I bought a 6.0 universal slabbed Mystery men Comics from Heritage 6 years ago. I just got an offer of $1300 for it, so after Heritage's 10% cut comes out to $1170 for me. (For those that have never gone through Heritage's anonymous offer format, I am responsible for shipping/insurance to Dallas) I don't have GPA, so don't know if that is a good offer. It's more than Overstreet, but I think Mystery Men often goes for well over Overstreet. Via searching completed auctions, I see a 6.5 sold several years ago via Heritage for over $3k - but I don't know if that was an aberration. Can anyone help with a realistic current day "value?" Thanks.
