  1. I remember the whole "Market Crash" thread that was on these boards back in 2003, A lot of people on these boards now that were heavily involved thinking the rug was really going to be pulled out from under everyone. I never thought for one second that would ever happen, and knew that paying 40K for a 9.0 Hulk #1 was peanuts as to what was going to come around down the line which is where we are now, The back issue market hasn't collapse, it's just gotten more expensive and will continue to do so. People would say "Oh 10 copies of Fantastic Four #1 in 9.2+, that's way too many, I'm not paying that price" Seriously? 10 copies is of a rare 9.2+ of something is too many? Well by the record setting prices being paid now still doesn't show any sign of there being too many copies to go around.

Modern books where 99.9% of the run is in 9.2 or better shape and taken well care of since they were printed, cannot be compared to Hulk #1 and Fantastic Four #1, who's value has been established over nearly 60 years and is based on it's proven desirability, and not a hypothetical future success or relevance.

As for what price is too much. In the same way that WD lifts all other moderns below it when it tracks a new high, and proves "what's possible". The golden age rarities do the same and open up space for people to pay more on the silvers. Same way things like the mcfarlane art sale "let" people start justify paying much more for OA, even pieces of questionable future relevance.

Dips in a market, or corrections to a bubble, are buying opportunities for well positioned people. Not just in comics, but all markets. It shakes out weak hands, breaks people playing on margin (debt), and sets strong floors for values. aka, even during the correction item X never went below price Y.

There are lots of bubbles in the comics world (OA, Slabbed books, Moderns, comics with TV rumors, copper/bronze keys, maybe even silver minor keys), if and when some of them finally "correct", it only does so to improve the overall strength of the market as a whole.

If someone want to pay all time highs for a book, just make sure the numismatic value of it is truly there, and you wont lose out. Action 1s arent going to go on sale, even if the bottom of the entire comic market fell out. If you are willing to set a record price for something, just know where it stands in the pecking order.

Good post.....if a market adjustment happens again, and I am sure it will.....just make sure your ready because a lot of your current stuff will end up worthless.....pay close attention and invest only where you think the book had legs to hold up. People buying 100 copies of every #1 out there will ge she'll shocked when this happens....just my 2c

So if I understand you, I should buy 200 copies of every image #1?

    :jokealert:

  2. this has mimicked Saga in every way thus far.

Variants: RRP, Ghost. Huge print run, but killer first issue, with a GREAT writer on board. I think it's a winner in every sense of the word, and the story is more accessible than Saga.

BUT we shall see. Issue 2 and 3 could be dogs lol. I doubt it, but it could happen.

MAJOR differences between this and Saga:

RRP no other variants for #1

    Broads LOVE Saga

Who is to say women don't love this book? (shrug)

Also, and this has been rehashed already in this thread, that Hickman didn't ok any other variants. The Ghost/Forbidden Planet are from those retailers, and those alone.

I'll be the first to say this tho, and have rocks thrown at me. I think this will be chosen as "The Best Comic" of 2013, like Saga was, and in time it will probably surpass Saga. Manhattan Projects is already one of the most over looked books out right now, just starting to gain momentum, and Hickman I feel is one of the best out there. I can only hope, and have faith.

    I hope you are right

  3. i tried Ryan. Just doesnt do it for me. i know that Adlard gets slammed for making characters all look the same, but Riley takes it to another level. Acevedo and Filmore look like brother and sister. most all of the humans have the same facial structuring.

You got me there. For a while I thought the Angel was Filmore and then I read Dia De Los Muertos and thought... "Hey, there's Fil-gel from Bedlem." lol

I don't get this at all (shrug) IMO the guy is very good at drawing distinct characters.

I like his work, but the characters do look like they are related.

  4. If anyone has any idea of the OA available, please pm me!! Gawd I loved this book!

Went to a signing yesterday with Dragotta and he said most of it is digital. But the covers and a few key pages that he thinks will be valuable, he did by hand. More importantly, he said he is not selling! (shrug) He was a cool guy though and I did manage to get a sketch! :whee:

    Pix or it didn't happen

    "Death"

    :cloud9: really cool sketch

  5. Somehow we seem to have time-travelled back to the '90's.

Every-one cancel their orders,I'll buy one and we can all post it to each other after reading.

We will still all have read it before #2 comes out....

    150,000 - be lucky to shift 20,000.

I just don't get the business plan for this at all.

Image are going to get about 130,000 comics for firestarters.

There are some outright bafflingly illogical events happening this month for sure. (shrug)

    :golfclap:

  6. Revival_Hoarder -

    Nice #2 collection.

Wrong way to ingratiate yourself with the Revival fans.

I agree with the others / data that explains the $ value.

The true value would be building a nice registry set.

    Also, OA trumps slabs.

    Your oa trumps slabs :cloud9:

  7. So, based on what was said earlier by HugeRosen, then this little book is only worth $500.00 :blahblah:

I have submitted about 60 books thus far to CGC and 57 9.8s, 2 9.9s, and now this little baby.... (worship)

But the ironic part is that this little 3 book lot is only going to bring in 1k, supposedly, wow, what a shame, hm:screwy::frustrated::roflmao:

Thanks for looking, but I have to keep up, in agreement, with my screen-name!! :golfclap:

    R_H

Yes, you are right, they are worth $50,000. Congrats.

Not sure if he thinks he could get 50k, but he would get more than 1k. You think there is only 1 hulk44. (tsk)

  8. And the normal Image copies are selling well.

    Plus the NYCC.

Things are moving for sure - sold 5 this week.

    Slow and steady.

The Detroit comiccon seems to be the worst selling one, by far.

  9.

    (tsk)

    This is the Second Print.

    SEP128208D.jpg

    (awesome cover by the way)

I was wondering about that book myself.

Gotcha, thanks. I haven't seen that term yet "special edition " for any of the bedlam variants.

  10. I love rucka, best punisher run in a really long time.

nice, I have been talking about that series since it dropped. Best comic of 2011/2012 imo.

I'm in for a rucka book.

You were just talking about this on some amateur hour program.

Sounds like and interesting series. Going to have to 86 one of my current reads... hm

I believe rucka's run on punisher is over after this last issue.
