The people who don't like Ironfist, wont love Defenders because they are similar.  I think my comparison of Defenders as a hyrbid of Daredevil/Ironfist in terms of tone, feel, and style is very accurate.

The thing about Netflix is that the majority of the audience (not unlike MCU movies), are not comic book nerds.  If you ask around or observe the non-comic book readers that watch these shows, you'll find that the numbers do match the feedback you get.  They are the ones that made Ironfist put up such massive numbers, and it will be the same with Defenders.

If Daredevil released a season where he didnt fight, at all, and it was only talking and character development, it would still set records for viewership, but many of the people who love Daredevil Season 1/2 just for the fighting would say its awful.   Everyone has the right to their opinions, but its interesting this almost cognitive dissonance you see in some of these threads.  Beyond the usual, "if you dont like it, why do you care so much to take the time to come and complain", type deal, it genuinely seems like some people think Marvel is just going to put out 7 versions of Daredevil, each staring different characters...  Each show is going to be different.

Ultimately, content should not and cannot be produced only for the fanboi crowd, or it ends up sucking big time, and is not sophisticated enough for a mainstream/wider audience.  The Netflix show runners know what they are doing, and thank goodness, otherwise we would end up with garbage like Ben Affleck or Will Smith being shoehorned into comicbook shows/movies

Netflix is going to continue to have each of its Marvel shows have a unique genre and feel.  Defenders is always going to be a middle ground hybrid of Daredevil and Ironfist.  The Punisher will be the best show yet, and more than enough red meat for the people who dont understand an Ironfist or Defenders style show.

For the record, and my spoiler, i think the anti-Ironfist crowd is going to be crying even more:

It will be interesting to see where The Defenders falls in under reality, as opposed to opinion.  Every Marvel Netflix show has its own genre, style, and form.  The people who *only* like Daredevil, (and then even within that group, only like its visceral aspect as opposed to the strong character development, and outstanding acting), are a tiny tiny part of the market and audience.  Marvel has out right stated they are and will continue to produce characters and shows in different styles and genres...

The Defenders merges all the shows together, and just as it would never be like Jessica Jones' which is too gruesome for many of the main stream audience, neither was it going to be just Daredevil Season 3.  The show is most like a hybrid of Iron Fist and Daredevil, not surprisingly either, as thats how the story itself plays out, with them being the two most significant of The Defenders with respect to the villain (The Hand), and the ongoing story so far (the war for New York).

The Defenders is outstanding, and as with ALL of the Marvel/Netflix shows (including Ironfist), a YUGE success.  Obviously people are welcome to have their own opinions about what they like, they just need to realize that it is only an opinion.

The people who really dislike Ironfist, wont likely *love* The Defenders, but Punisher is next which WILL be of the kind and type that they like, so solace is only as far away as November.

Luckily, that minority of opinion, has no say or control over what is produced, or every single Marvel project would simply be an action piece.  In my *opinion*, The Punisher is going to be the best Netflix/Marvel show yet, by a lot.  But, I think every single one they have done so far has been excellent, and I am very pleased they arent all running the race in the same lane.

The Defenders is an easy 8.5 - 9 out of 10, period.  But hey, that's just my opinion...

What books have more supply than demand will only truly be tested when interest rates return to historical norms.  As long as money remains so cheap, prices will always be trending in one direction only.

When the rate is 5-8%, and dog chewed 1.5s are still moving up in price, it will be safe to say supply really doesnt meet demand.

I have 4 high grade copies of NA 10 so i am hoping that Thane makes his appearance. One of my mates has put alot of time into speculating the upcoming Infinity movies and he is certain Thane will be a major player in the 4th Avengers movie and possibly beyond. He believes it's part of the reason they will not release the name. 

I'm a little scepticle on that though as it just has to be called Infinity Gauntlet? And Gamora's actor(cant remember her name) let it slip didn't she?

I have my own theories on where Marvel is going next, (been saying it for a few years in private convos), but this is not the thread for that kind of talk....

Thane seems pretty boring as a story line, hopefully they have more to offer than that.

exactly, I pulled it at the time but would never have more than 1 copy of books like that.

 and in the issue 8-10 range(not a 1st issue or early issue), even stores arent ordering more than a couple beyond their customers with it on the pull list, so even though the copies would sit there from then to now, there wont be more a than a couple at any one place.

The big places with volume, like MCS, midtown, etc, would get raided from here immediately and be out-of-stock the same day people point out a bounce.

That's a good commentary on the difference between rarity and distribution(or dispersion).

A book like a New Avengers 10 or a Hulk 22 will never have been concentrated, while something like Jupiter's Legacy will have been very concentrated.  For people searching the second hand market, books with high dispersion or distributed widely, can be extremely hard to find, while other books (not JL, but many variants on these boards would work as examples), might have much smaller print runs, but would be much easier to find "in the wild".

New Avengers 10 has a CC estimated print run of 60,700, but if those 60,700 books are owned by 40,000 people, it can be very difficult to find copies online and in stores.  If there were 2-500 easily available copies at the time that people started caring about it, this forum and the sites that orbit it, could vaporize that supply in less than a week, and the places that do have them (say stores without an easily searched online presence) won't have many copies per store/location, because they never did to begin with.

I've long felt this concept, (i sometimes call it strong hands versus weak hands), in terms of how able people are to buy up a supply, or how many are available to purchase at any one time, is something people dont talk about, think about much in terms of what it means for rarity.  It can have a huge impact on the short term price spikes, and the long term ability to hold value.

High rarity gives you both short term vulnerability to big price rises, and long term stability (inability for people to bring many to market quickly)

High Dispersion gives you good short term price spikes, but will draw out supply, less stability (but if enough demand exists to eat the supply, it will stay highly dispersed)

High rarity AND High Dispersion gives you "key books", and very strong stability.  Especially once people have a lot of skin in on a book, and are unwilling to sell for a loss.

Finally back with my real account, will look at doing an update on this for anyone who still uses/enjoys.  Sometime in the next week or so.

if people are grossly over paying for variants in the secondary market, absolutely no reason why the primary market isnt going to follow suit and keep pushing the envelope.

The speculators are the cause of such things getting created, but in a way they are also leading to their own downfall. The market cannot sustain indefinite growth in prices simply on the back of artificial rarity. Eventually limits will be reached.

Where are any of these available to the public? As Jaydog mentioned, MCS is usually pretty accurate but I pointed out that they are not even accurate all the time.

Primary tier from my list would require effort and googling, and isnt directly searchable. Second tier are all publicly available,

MCS is third tier, and definitely has mistakes. comicspriceguide is better for a third tier than MCS, and if you use the two together, its generally pretty accurate. Climb the chain if there is confusion.

between MCS, CPG, CCL, GCDB, CV, and the different wikia pages, you can certainly get a general consensus of the second and third tier.

If its still not decide, find the original solicitation if its a modern as this is. Last resort, email the publisher.

The point was, work with people that actual generate content, not an aggregator, or homebrew site, as THEY are just doing what YOU can do yourself, and looking at those other sources.

not weighing in on the debate per se, but I would point out that just because people "dont ever see book X at a comic shop", doesnt mean it didnt used to be in ALL the comic shops, was ordered lots, and now is just not in the content that gets moved around frequently.

Most comic shops are NOT re-supplying themselves with 90s books.

Go with diamond's information, an original presser on its release, or one of the many comic database sites out there, when seeking accurate printing information.

Obviously publisher/diamond is primary source, those comic db's would/should qualify as secondary sources, large third-party guys like mycomicshop, comicspriceguide, comiccollectorlive etc would be the tertiary sources.

content aggregators and hobbyist/homebrew sites are bottom of the barrel for that kind of information and acquired "their" info from one of the primary, secondary or tertiary sources (the same as you can)

It's a verified complaint. That comes with quite a heightened responsibility for factual accuracy compared to basic notice pleading.

Yeah even my little LCS had plenty of them. Not as rare as we thought maybe.

nowadays, i dont think any stores besides maybe chains would comply. Everyone keeps the misprints nowadays.

Any ratio variant from back then will quickly become unavailable if people care and start buying them. If you want a frame of reference, Ghost Rider had the same style color and sketch variants, the same year (i got the variants, color and sketch of both it and ms marvel, at the time). Silvestri i think for those.

Anyway, more sketches are for sale, sitting unsold, than color. Not because the color is "harder to find", but the opposite.

Books that no one cares about, the cheaper ones sell more often, and the rarer ones sit unsold at too high a price. Once a bunch of demand occurs, the rarer ones will sell out and hardly ever come up again.

Its just that they WERENT worth buying for so long, that has kept the rarer sketch variants available on ebay.

I often try to talk about dispersal rarity on here. The difference between existential rarity (how many exist), and dispersal rarity (how spread out the books are, and how many are in the hands of potential sellers), is lost on 99.9% of the people buying variants.

Many people confuse dispersal rarity for existential rarity.

If they cant find one to buy, they assume hardly any must exist. There are several comics I love and hunt for all the time, that are extremely hard to find (but no one cares). When demand spikes for a book, many more books come available as people who dont normally sell suddenly become sellers. Once they sell to the new high demand wave, those people paying high prices, are even less likely to sell as they are now committed big time to their purchases.

This is the pattern for a lot of the "rare" moderns that arent actually as rare as some think (existentially). Very very hard to find for sale, but not low in numbers existing.

If and when one of these type of books suffers a price decline, an inverse happens. Many can suddenly become available as people who didnt pay the high prices, dont want to miss out on their chance to turn a big profit.
