  1. How are you guys using the normal size scanners and getting the entire CGC case in the photo?

Is this possible? Cocacolakid has my hopes very high at this point....

    Call me a Waaaaaah-mbulance.

  2. How are you guys using the normal size scanners and getting the entire CGC case in the photo? Are you using some software to stitch two photos together? The CGC cases are a little over 8" wide by about 13" long, over an inch longer than the glass on a normal size scanner. The full size document scanners have 14" beds, which is perfect, but the prices are insane and I can't find a deal right now on an older used one to use with my Mac.

    Thanks for any replies.

    +1 to this.

I desperately need to get "iphone bed photos" out of my registry set.

  3. DollarBill - that's amazing!! way to go!!

CntrlScrutinizr - love the sketch!! Nicely done. Please do make it a painting.. or do a painting based on teh sketch or some such - would love to see the end result!!

I picked up some copic markers at Supanova... just enough to do some two-tone work... now I need to make some time to sit down and have a play with them.

I've been toying with "Inktense" pencils from Derwent too.. they're bloody awesome.

  4. Really super.

    Link for the Nomad brushes?

Thanks very much mate - I really appreciate it.

This is the brush I use:

    http://www.nomadbrush.com/products/nomad-compose-long-tip

It has a long and a short tip.. I find myself using the shorter tip for drawing and the longer tip for games like Autumn Dynasty but, that said, I still use the long tip painting... just not as much now as I did initially.

Plus this model comes with a carrying case, which I would strongly recommend to protect the brush tips.

Finally - this is the app I'm using: http://www.procreate.si/

It has the least screen lag out of any I've tried so far and is very intuitive to drive. I find I drive with two hands - left hand constantly changing brush size and opacity levels, while right hand works the brush to paint and change brush styles and configuration.

  5. So, this isn't an original idea. But I'm proud of the end result all the same.

This is another painting done on the iPad with the Procreate app and I have to give Nomad Brushes a mention. Amazing little things for iPad painting. No screen drag like rubber tipped stylus... which is honestly just as important as having a lag-free app, like Procreate, to paint with.

  6. I bought a bunch of books of Tyler. They arrived from Canada to Australia in 6 days. Yes. 6 days from Canada. :o

Not only that, when they arrived they had been packed beautifully. It's rare to see such care taken with packaging, even from comic lovers.

You want more? You got more! Tyler even threw in a free gift - a comic in beautiful condition, that I didn't already own and that matches one of my collecting focusses that he knew about.

Frankly - all I can say is WHAT A BLOKE!!!

Since posting a WTB thread, I've not only ended up with the majority of the set I was after at a great price and in record time, but I've also enjoyed chatting about comics and beer with Tyler every step of the way.

Tyler has also helped me out looking into other books and has provided me advice regarding other transactions I'm in.

One of the most genuine and nicest boardies here.

If you're a prospective buyer, I cannot recommend Tyler to you enough!!

  7. Nice!!!

I'm having real issues trying to find a flatbed scanner in my region that scans legal-size documents.

I can get the HP pro printer/scanner that does fit it - but I didn't want to spend 500 bucks, given I never print anything. I was hoping to get away with a simple scanner only, for slabs, for 150-200 from the local office works or something.

    So far.. no joy. :(

  8. Thanks Buffy, Thanks Senor!! I don't hold my own against both of your creativity or skills, but I damn enjoy giving it a crack! :-)

Buffy - yeah, I did an "auto-calibrate" on the work screen but it got worse. It is probably 8 years old.. so that could be a factor there. The pic above comes up alright on the iPad still.

And just saw Soft-Serve's work. :o what a master!!!

  9. Another iPad painting using the PROCREATE app and a Nomad brush.

Learned a LOT doing this one... primarily about colour and computer displays... this looks completely washed out on some monitors... too dark in others.... the colours were perfect on the iPad but now I've tried to edit it for PC viewing and so it's a bit bright on the iPad now...

Basically, the mileage varies GREATLY depending on the monitor you're using.. which makes me wonder about how many artworks I view from this machine that don't look how they were intended. Interestabubble.

Either way... this is a portrait attempt of my missus. There are so many flaws with it that it's not funny and it does her no justice.. but it was still fun to try and do!

Think this is about as good as I can go without starting over.

  10. Has anyone here taken art classes?

I've been thinking about attending one to improve my drawing.

For those who have attended one, what type of course was it? Did it help you improve?

So far I have not had much luck as the local college art courses appear to include alot of things I really don't wish to know, i.e. history, fabrics, clay etc.

I have not taken any art classes myself. I have had some tips from artists, and watched a lot of youtube artists do demos and explain techniques... Have you given this a try yet?

I prefer this to classes - I really only care about tips for my problem areas; I do not want a history lesson, nor waste time on things that will not help me.

I did it at school 17 years ago... I'm gonna try the YouTube option first. So much to learn!!

  11. Thats good work mate. :applause:

+1 with a question. Do you use a stylus to paint like that or your finger or what ? Maybe just the mouse (shrug)

    Thanks Bane! :-)

Señor, I used a nomad brush stylus (nomadbrush.com) - it seems silly but it's brilliant. Normal stylus with rubber tips drag in the screen. It doesn't feel natural to me. But the NB has no drag. Similarly, the procreate app has very little screen lag. Really good combo together!

My next one is about 90% done. Will post it soon. First attempt at a portrait.
