  1. Unfortunately every single copy of the new Afterlife arrived at my LCS with damage to the spine. Seeing as it had been forty-six years (or so) since the previous issue, that was all the reason I needed to drop it.

I noticed the same type of spine damage on a lot of the Archie titles these days. I don't get why it is so common right now either.

  2. If they follow the release pattern of the action figures then Yoda would be coming up in another 5 to 10 covers. But having a Thanoth cover makes me wonder now.....

I'm a little surprised they did Thanoth before Aphra or her droids. Perhaps he plays a big part in the story arc.

I was really hoping it was going to be the droids 1st. I guess they wanted to make a cover of a less popular character 1st to build up anticipation for the cool Triple Zero and Bee Tee One droids.

The Thanoth cover (along with Dr. Aphra and her droids if they are released) represent making an action figure cover for which no action figure exists. Perhaps these are tests to see if these characters should be made into actual action figures.

  3. How are we on the Gonk droid but we still do not have Yoda???

They are releasing them in roughly the same order that the original action figures were released.

Does anyone here think they will get through all 92+ original action figures? I'm skeptical the Star Wars title will get to issue #92 and if it doesn't, what do they do with obscure characters like Cloud Car Pilot and Weequay for example?

I will be surprised if the new Star Wars series makes it to #92 or so considering how often Marvel likes to begin the numbering over again these days. It would be cool to see the title to make it to a number greater than the original Marvel Star Wars though (i.e. higher than 107).

The true determination I think will be when the modern Star Wars series passes the Empire Strikes Back in terms of story chronology. At this point, it seems like the majority of Marvel Star Wars comics take place within a year of A New Hope (the exceptions being Kanan, Shattered Empire, C-3PO special and the new Poe Dameron). At this point, it's really loosely defined how close we are within the three years of chronology between A New Hope and the Empire Strikes Back too.

If Marvel restarts the Star Wars series, they might choose to finish the action figure covers anyways. I do wonder if the collectors will burn out by that time though. I myself really like these covers. However my comic store is charging me $15 for each action figure cover which seems to be a bit high.

Really didn't capture the likeness for this one. (shrug)

The R5-D4 at the bottom is a more modern era figure. The original R5-D4 figure was a lot more simplified and had red equivalents to several R2-D2 features (stickers and legs). The R5-D4 vintage dome also really only had three red dots.

It seems like the plan is to do the 20 back figures prior to working on the Empire Strikes Back era vintage figures.

  5. Has anyone else not got their Star Wars #7 Boba Fett Action Figure (Black & White) copies from JTC ?

I received my single copy a week ago. Unfortunately it was damaged due to packaging. Although it was packaged in cardboard, the comic with backboard still had some free play to move within the bubble wrap. It's a bit painful to see a book with an impacted corner that would have been a 9.8 otherwise.

  6. Don't lose hope Awax!

You just might get your wish for a B/W GG Allin AF cover!

For those who have seen GG Allin concert footage, a brown tinted cover might be more applicable. I imagine this is not the most tasteful comment - but I am still a bit traumatized from watching some of his DVDs.

  7. I'd much rather see a anime series that way they can expand more on the themes from the manga.

I totally agree. The animated Akira film matched the manga for the 1st part of the film but really boiled down so much of the source material later. It would be great to have a series that could include the rival gangs in the post destroyed neo-Tokyo. It would also be possible to have a more explained ending too.

  8. The ComicLink auction for the Star Wars #1 (35 cent) price variant in CGC 9.6 just closed this evening. $36500 !!

I recall the ComicLink 2011 auction of this book in the same grade closed at between $21000 and $22000. The 2010 auction closed at about $26000.

    link?

I believe this link will work above for the closed comic link auction.

  9. The ComicLink auction for the Star Wars #1 (35 cent) price variant in CGC 9.6 just closed this evening. $36500 !!

  10. Lando #1 has an AF variant of Lando. I have not heard of Lando #2 coming with an AF variant but it would probably be Lobot or Nein Numb if I was guessing.

Star Wars #7 and #8 are confirmed to have AF variants but it has not been released who they are. Again…if I was guessing, I'd say Yoda and a Stormtrooper…I feel we might be soon coming to the end of the main characters.

    Ones left (my opinion):

    Yoda

    Stormtrooper

    Grand Moff Tarkin

    Emperor Palpatine

    Wicket

    Slave Leia

    We need:

    JAWA

    Tuskin Raider

    Death Squad Commander

    Also..

    Greedo

    Walrus Man

    Hammerhead

SnaggleTooth ( with red variant )

    R5-d4

    Death Star Droid

    Power Droid

    Luke ( xwing pilot )

I agree with all these figures. I am hoping that SW #7 has either a Jawa or Tuskin Raider since the Obi Wan flashback story might take place on Tatooine.

If we have an Emperor cover - I also hope we get an Emperor's Royal Guard cover too.

  11. They're all VF- or better IMO, minor corner wear.

#42 has a small soil smudge in the "A" of "Star" and small CBC on lower left corner.

#68 has a small very fine CBC in lower right corner on an otherwise spectacular cover.

#107 has a couple spine ticks and a light ink-smudge in the price-box.

PQ on all of these is excellent, W/OW and the backs are all clean and creaseless.

They were in a mixed box of bronze and not marked and so he offered $2 for each Boba and $3 for 107 and I said "Sure" - and then he pulled out a copy of OPG to get a gauge on 107 and said I was getting a good deal because 107 had a low print run.

    I said "Thanks!"

I only go to this LCS maybe every other month, but now I'm putting this LCS on higher rotation for my LCS runs.

Sounds like you did well. Congrats.

  12. I didn't see anyone mention it but 1st Boba has now hit $700

And 68 and 81 are both very healthy

And of course Star Wars 1 is crazy hot with the latest sale at $2400.00 in 9.8 :insane:

Just picked up these three from a LCS.... $7 out the door.

There are still deals to be found!

You must be on really good terms with your LCS. The books look really nice too. Do you think the books will grade high? The picture looks great anyways.

  13. With respect to Star Wars #1 in 9.8 - I have a mixed point of view. On one hand I feel really lucky to have a copy in my permanent collection. On the other hand I feel really bad that I sold a double in 9.8 for only $500 last year.

I imagine that someday I'll find a massive box of Star Wars #1 9.8's. When this happens I'll be able to give out free copies to my friends and allies - provided they are willing to listen to lots of my opinions on favorite Star Wars stories.
