  1. Yes, this comic book was a real odd ball. I've seen several newsstand stickers, but I think this is one of the only ones I've seen where a direct sales sticker was placed over the newsstand issue. And it was not a one off. With the one you showed above, I've now seen at least 3 of them. My copy was graded and it was a qualified CGC 9.6. Here's what my notes say about it: "Comixdlr on CGC collector's society found some other copies in Aug 2017 (not from same source as the person on ebay who sold it to me); He said that he was a dealer and was upset that Diamond Distribution sent them to him with the stickers on them when they were originally released. He tried to find his old order forms for them but was sure that they didn't move that to the new shop and just shredded it all.. or recycled it. " Little did he know that at the time that the sticker might add value to it!
  2. After competing for and buying hundreds of jeweler variants, I agree. The key issues seem to get a serious price bump. The jeweler and NDS inserts can also make an otherwise unsellable comic book sellable. It gets really weird is when two or more jeweler fanatics compete for a jeweler variant that none of them have, but really want. I saw a non-key Justice League of America 107 in gvg condition sell for around $100 because neither one of us fanatics had it in our collection. I lost out on that one. The seller would have a hard time getting $3 for that comic book if not for the jeweler insert.
  3. Here's an example of how one stickered newsstand got graded by CGC (it gets a qualified grade). There are several examples of stickered newsstand issues from the hey-day of over-production of comic books in the early-to-mid 1990s.
  4. Here is a rare sight. All of the known DC Universe variants of Superman (1987 series) in one place, thanks to @archivist and @onlyweaknesskryptonite. The hard to find ones are Superman 77, 96, 113 and 117. My good friend @archivist found the Superman 113 in Germany (he lives there), which is example of the network that is sometimes needed to compile complete collections of rare variants. Now I have all known DCU variants in the titles of Batman, Detective, Adv of Superman, Superman, Action, Justice League and Superman Man of Steel except for Superman MOS 39. If anyone can find that one for me, I would gladly pay a bounty of $200 to get it. p.s. I hate that 74 and 77 are out of order in my photo, but I'm not pulling that monkey fighter 77 back out of the fire safe to make the correction...lol p.p.s. Two Superman 104's are shown above (one regular DCU UPC and the other one with stickered DCU UPC)
  5. A friend of mine sent the image shown below, which is the only one I've ever seen of the elusive Walgreens pack. These packs are supposedly the origin of the DC "no month" variants. The caption to this image from my friend says that Superman 379, B&B 196 and Green Lantern 159 came from this pack. My friend only had this image and cannot find the actual pack itself. If anyone can actually find one of these Walgreens packs, I would love to hear about it.
  6. Thanks to @Warlord for this great post. And yes, @onlyweaknesskryptonite called on the right guy to solve the DC stickered bullet mystery. Those stickered DC bullet variants are a different animal than the DC bullet UPC variants from the 1993/1994 era of 20-packs and 2-packs. The "bullet stickers" were only placed on Batman 414, 415, and 416 to the best of my knowledge, and they were produced in early 1989. Each of those 3 "bullet sticker" comic books had the words "THIRD PRINTING C 1989 DC COMICS, INC" printed in the indicia and a DC bullet sticker placed over a bar code on the front cover. They were packaged in the 3-packs that were sold in stores like Kay-bee Toys and Toys-R-Us. I'm just guessing, but I think the stickers were placed on the comic books so that a sales clerk would not scan the bar code on the comic books instead of the bar code at the top of the backside of the pack. Here's some photos of the bulleted Batman 414, 415 and 416 still contained within the pack.
  7. I just posted an image of Board #7 (front and back) at the top of this post.
  8. Agreed. I have more than fifty 3-packs and I have been looking for these packs for more than 10 years. I've never seen any of the following still contained within a sealed pack: Batman 352, 353, 356, 357, Detective 519, Superman 377, 379 and Green Lantern 159. And they aren't too hard to find. So it makes me wonder if they were released as part of some other promotion.
  9. I bought and opened more packs in the interest of variant science. I included images of the front and back of Boards 9 and 11 in the first posting above. Coming soon, I will post front and back of Board 7 (just bought a spare pack on ebay that will allow me to crack open Board 7). After that, the only missing Board is 14 (we have an image of the front of Board 14, but I do not have this board so someone else might have to come up with images of Board 14.
  10. I will add that @Warlord made this post about one year ago. No one presented an image of one of those packs, but @bellrules said he remembers seeing a Walgreens pack on ebay. With this post, I am asking @bellrules to conjure up some details on his recollection of that Walgreens pack. For whatever it is worth, I found images of some of the later Wonder Woman "no month" reprints still encapsulated in a pack. However, we have yet to see those earlier "no month" reprints such as Batman 352, 353, 356 and 357 photographed in a pack.
  11. Has anyone ever determined for sure where these "No Month" variants originated? I have in my notes that they originally were found in Walgreen's multipacks, but I have never seen one after more than 10 years of looking. Examples include Batman 352, 353, 356, 357, Detective 519, Superman 377, 379 and Green Lantern 159. I've seen Batman 401 thru 403 "No Month" variants in a pack, but never found these earlier ones.
  12. I listed this TEC 643 2nd printing on ebay and I've seen practically no interest. It is always interesting to me the difference in demand for variants. I suspect if this were a variant in the title of Batman comics, it would be a different story. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165093769327
  13. Notice that some of the backs of the last 9 boards still say $2.25 value. I wonder if that is because they stuffed those packs with older comics that were excess stock.
  14. This website contains images of all the card sheets that I didn't have in my collection shown above except for Board #9. So you can refer to website below for images of Boards 7, 11, and 14 (which are not shown above). I will probably break out Board #9 out of it's pack in the next few weeks if someone doesn't post an image of it before I get around to that. https://www.cosmicteams.com/jla/img/cards/great_heroes/intro3.htm
  15. I'm guessing you have Board #12 shown on Jeff Allendar's web page. If you turn the pack upside down and whack it a few times on a hard surface, the comics will slide down and you will see the bottom two cards (namely Green Lantern/Green Arrow 76 and Aqualad). And here's the rest of the story: After looking at 63 different boards with sealed and unsealed packs, I've concluded that there's a lot of randomness in how these were put together. The card groupings on the sheet and the appearance of the front of the sheet are always the same. However, the same sheet of cards can have different UPC numbers or appearances on the back side. Go figure. I found two more card sheets (namely board #7 and #9 on Jeff Allendar's page) by analyzing the packs, but I'm not going to unseal the packs to reveal the sheets. I still have yet to find 2 of the packs named on Jeff Allendar's page (specifically board #11 and board #14)
  16. Aha... now I get the difference of the 1987 vs 1989, And no worries my friend. I still have one of those Batman 423's in an opened pack if you really want one. I am quite frankly astounded at the prices of those 423's. I probably have at least 3 spares.
  17. Jeff Allender claims 6 different cards were produced in 1987 and 9 more different cards were produced in 1989. Link's to Jeff's checklists are as follows. http://www.nslists.com/dccombk1.htm http://www.nslists.com/dccombk2.htm The first 6 cards shown above were produced in 1987 according to Jeff's checklists. The next 5 cards shown above were produced in 1989 according to Jeff's checklists. Note that the only obvious difference between the 4th card shown above and the last card above is the UPC code. They both have a green background at the top of the card with an orange starburst. All the cards have "DC Comics Inc 1987" printed on the front of the cards, so I don't know how Jeff concluded that the second set was released in 1989 (but I have no reason to doubt his claim either). Many of the cards have different UPC cards, so maybe those will lend a clue for identifying the different types of cards without opening the packs.
  18. After posting a previously undiscovered DC comics 3-pack, I was asked some questions about those trading card sheets that came with the packs. @archivist found Jeff Allender's website which contains a checklist of all known 15 sheets. I have 13 of those 15 sheets in opened packs, so I thought I would post them for anyone who wants to see them. With about 40 other unopened packs in hand, I suspect I could find others but I'm not ready to open up those packs just yet. If I don't have a spare of any given pack, I keep it sealed (the goal is to have all the known packs still sealed). If anyone can produce images of Board 14, please do so (the board number refers to the numbering system in Jeff Allender's website). I have an unopened pack with Board 7 (which I will open as soon and post images as soon as a spare pack arrives from ebay) and I am missing Board 14. An image of the front of Board 14 can be found on the 4th board down on the following link (Board 14 has Power Girl, Superman 76, JLA 1 and others on it): https://www.cosmicteams.com/jla/img/cards/great_heroes/intro3.htm And here are links to Jeff Allender's listing of the following sheets. http://www.nslists.com/dccombk1.htm http://www.nslists.com/dccombk2.htm Board #1 Board #2 Board #3 Board #4 Board #5 Board #6 Board #7 Board #8 Board #9 Board #10 Board #11 Board #12 Board #13 Board #14 (I don't have this one... refer to link above for image of the front) Board #15
  19. I was looking at my spare variants this weekend and realized I have a spare Washington Park AND Georgetown Park mall variant of Adv of Superman 443. If you anyone ever finds a mall variant that is not listed above or finds one of the three that I don't have (namely, Fiesta, Parks at Arlington, and Westgate), I would gladly trade one of my spares plus at least one hundred bucks to obtain one that I don't have. Bounty is more if the mall variant you find is in high grade.
  20. update: I've only got a couple TEC 643's left and one beat-up TEC 638. Feel free to reach out if you want them.
  21. I am surprised that no one on the boards has requested a set of these. I have a couple of friends who wanted them, and I gladly sent them a set. I have one set left that I would sell for $10 per comic book. If someone wants them, please let me know by this Sunday night. Otherwise I will list them on feebay.
  22. I hear you brother. In completing my run of newsstands for Batman, Detective, Superman/Adv of Superman, Action Comics, and Justice League of America, I had to resort to buying at least 100 of the approximately 1,800 newsstands from Mile High. I usually only bought them when the price was reasonable (I believe the highest prices I paid were in the neighborhood of $60 each), and it was very convenient to get them from one place. I probably still have all the receipts, and it would be interesting to compare the prices I paid 10 years ago to the prices that they charge today. Most of mine are 9.0 to 9.8 (only only very rarely 9.8 due to the nature of the beast). I do recall competing on ebay for some Batman newsstands in high grade 10 years ago and I think the highest price I had to pay was about $70 with stiff competition. Glad I did it back then.
  23. Most of the indicias on the DC Universe and other variants from that same time frame are the same as their direct sales and newsstand counterparts. There are a few comics books where they are different, and there's some discussion on that buried further back on this thread.
  24. yes, I have a bunch of those trading card sheets, and I would be glad to help you out with that. I just sent you a PM.
