  1. Nice pickups! I am often amazed at how little word-of-mouth Andy (goldustcomics.com) gets as a dealer around here compared to places like Metro and Superworld. Every time I look at the books Andy has in stock, I am amazed at the selection. Marvel, DC, golden age, silver age, bronze age, it is better than most American dealers have and he has a lot of stuff that you just can't find anywhere else (case in point, the Captain America Comics #75 discussed recently in the Marketplace). His grading is as good as anyone's and the shipping cost from England isn't usually that bad either, especially if you're buying multiple books.
  2. I am just now looking at this thread for the first time. GORGEOUS scuba cover, Jim.
  3. I didn't ask that question. But they probably didn't slab it because it isn't a high demand book.
  4. I would call it a 7.5/8.0, leaning toward the 8.0. For some reason, the scan is really accentuating the defect in the upper right corner. The book is very glossy and flat, colors are brilliant, the spine is nice and tight with only a couple of small, light stress marks, and the spine corners are just slightly abraded. The most noticeable defect on the book is that light 1/4" crease in the URC that looks so bad in the scans. There is also a 3/16" edge tear on the leading edge of the front cover. All of the wear is limited to the perimeter of the book. No thumb dents or non-color-breaking bends in the middle of the front or back cover. No interior cover tanning whatsoever, though the pages are probably CR-OW. No other big defects anywhere, no stains, nothing that would bring it out of the VF range. On a "bad day," maybe CGC would grade it a 7.5 but I've looked it over three times and each time I come back to agreeing with Mile High's VF grade. It looks very similar to my Amazing Spider-Man #51 CGC 8.0 in terms of defects. I am going to get it slabbed and I'll let you know what it gets. Unless I have completely missed something, it'll be top census by a good margin.
  5. Thanks. The scan is magnifying the appearance of the crease compared to how the book looks in hand, so I took a picture (ignore the glare from the Mylar at top middle of book).
  6. Steve Sibra!!!! Let me tell you about St. Steve Sibra.... ....
  7. Thanks Harry. Too bad you didn't buy and keep back in the day, I'd be more than happy to take them off your hands today! Today's contribution (#@% glare! ): At least the glare marks themselves are shaped like BOOMERANGS!
  8. Sorry, when I replied, I thought you were Adam. When I look at my books and compare them to what Adam posts, I wish I were Adam.
  9. Yes, I imagine they would have a rather explosive impact. Perhaps you're taking your interest in war comics a little too far? My old Epson worked fine with slabs. The scanner I'm using at the office is a Kodak. As you'll see from some of the Turoks that I post later, the scans come out fine when the inner well is smooth, but any ripple at all creates significant glare. I meant Canon, smartass. Also, I have no interest in war comics -- apart from flipping your Sgt. Furys for a substantial profit, that is.
  10. Great book, Tim. On the glare issue, I've seen people ask about this quite a few times. No one has ever come up with any solution other than "buy a scanner that scans slabs well." My HP 7110 works great, and everyone else I know who has an HP also gets good results. Cannons are supposed to be garbage with CGC books.
  11. Great thread, AdamStrange. Here is my contribution: Showcase #3 (just makes it in under the wire of "pre-Showcase 4 books" ):
  12. I also bought two FF#52s recently. I still need an ASM#52. I had to send back a raw VF/NM that I bought recently because it was overgraded. You could have had a nice CGC 9.2 Spidey #52, but you didn't want my book. Cheap [#@$%!!!]. I don't remember seeing that one on Saturday.

  14. Not if you fold just the flap portion over. You only get the bubble if you fold at a point that is too low and you fold the actual bag portion over itself.
  15. overkill. you'd just be spending extra money that's not really necessary. there was also a thread recently about how books can be damaged if you do that. As I showed Jeffreykli, JBud_73, divadrabnud, and Jimm94 last night, you CAN safely use Mylite2s/Fullbacks inside of the 4 mil Archives and wind up with a perfect fitting package. Just fold the mylite2 flap over right where the bag ends and the flap begins. As long as you aren't folding the actual bag part of the Mylites2 over itself, it works great.
  16. Sir, that was just an awesome display. Thank you.
  17. Yes I'm debating starting a thread in GA for post-gold, pre-silver kinda stuff. As soon as I figure out what to call it. How about "Post your Post-Gold, Pre-Silver stuff here?"
  18. Taking a page from Joe's book, I took it upon myself yesterday to email Fred Hembeck, to encourage him to give this great forum a look. He responded back today (Hi Fred, if your reading this ) and expressed his genuine happiness that such a forum as this exists. He promises to lurk and soak up what he can, as time allows..... but more importantly, he wants to promote this forum on his links page, as early as next week! He said it seems not a week goes by that someone doesnt contact him in regards to his Toole-Wiseman piece he did on the website. I have the feeling we're gonna need to order more root beers soon........ I love Fred Hembeck!!!! The Fantastic Four Roast was one of my favorite comics from my childhood. Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man #86 (from "Assistant Editors' Month") was another classic!
  19. Huge kudos to Doug Schmell for selling me that Tales of Suspense #52 CGC 9.4 at a reasonable price.
  20. Your comment about spelling reminded me of something I saw on the STL Comics website recently. Amazing stuff.
  21. BIG TIME thanks to Tom Murnane for pointing me in the direction of a Brave & the Bold #25 in VF condition and at a superb price. I've been looking forever for a nice copy of this book without much luck. I am STOKED! Thanks Tom!!!! I owe you one! FFB
  22. That's the Church copy again, isn't it RHG?
