  1. Yeah, I hate cumulative statistics like this; it makes people think that if they get sick, there's a 1:5 chance it will be a "severe" version. If an otherwise healthy 20'something gets it, they actually have a very slim chance of becoming severely ill; while if an 80 year old - or someone with a compromised immune system - contracts the same virus, their chances of it becoming life-threatening will be drastically higher. When you lump all of those statistics together, you come up with a blanket "80%" chance of mild symptoms, while for most people, their odds are it affecting them relatively mildly are considerably higher.
  2. What controls are in place to protect the slabs sent to you by sellers while in your possession? I mean, is this being run out of a house or a secure facility? Are there multiple individuals involved, enough that the possibility of a rogue employee taking off with a ton of slabs is an issue, and if so, is everything fully recorded and insured while in your possession? And how do you plan on resolving it when a seller inevitably insists that a book you received damaged was perfectly fine when it left his possession (basically insisting that you must have damaged it). Is there any video recording/documentation taking place, to protect both you and the seller? Is there any different protocol for how you handle/transact a $5000 book, as opposed to a $100 one? Also, you mentioned that you plan on eventually offering raw books; how will that work? Are you going to go on a "gradeless" system, purely going by seller descriptions and pictures, with you just verifying the correct book/printing (if applicable) was sent? It would seem impossible to "verify" any kind of grading system on raw books as a 3rd party, as there would be so much subjectivity involved it would be a nightmare. You're also - again - going to enter an area where sellers are going to insist that you must have damaged their raw books when handling them.
  3. It also bears mentioning that a lot of the purchases from the MCS regular inventory are made using trade credit (since you can't use it on auction/consignment items), so it stands to reason that their prices would be above FMV to some extent. The amount received for trading books in to them (that are often nearly impossible to sell elsewhere) is usually significantly more than their cash buying price, and can add up very quickly; so taking advantage of this and then using it to purchase keys directly from them puts you at a significant advantage over someone paying cash for the same item. Being able to trade 100 or so $3-$4 books collecting dust in a long box for a properly graded ASM 300 isn't something I can do anywhere other than MCS. I think that their prices are usually very fair, given that dynamic.
  4. I lost an entire summer of my life trying to "beat" Pitfall (collect all 32 treasures). Never happened. perhaps if you had a map? Mind. Blown.

  6. lololol Yeah, that'll hold up in court. Agreed, somebody isn't old enough/intelligent enough to understand the legal concept of "Intent to Defraud"... Let me help him: The specific intent to deceive or cheat, ordinarily for the purpose of causing some financial loss to another, or bringing about some financial gain to one's self. It is not necessary, however, to prove that the United States or anyone else was in fact defrauded so long as it is established that the person acted "with intent to defraud." In other words, , you've already committed a crime several times over, even though you didn't succeed in ripping someone off. You're just piling onto your own gravestone. And your little "disclaimer" doesn't supersede the law; that would be like a landlord creating a lease that conflicts with state law.
