  1. Got a really good deal considering the seller was advertising it on the premise of it 'blowing up' with the TV series. Personally I just hope it's as good a read as I've heard.

Also this because I'm a sucker for 70s Marvel and it was a bit of a bargain. Sorry about pic quality but it's in damn good shape, too:

  2. Holy mess, this is awesome. Always loved Brubaker's work, but only just gotten into his superhero stuff with The Winter Soldier; I guess this is a good middle-ground between that and his real-world crime stuff, in that it's dealing with inherently silly subjects like Mr Freeze and a psychopath in a bat suit, but making their world far more grounded and 'realistic' than any other fiction which has attempted to do so with his usual mastery of pulpy dialogue and characters that feel far more human than any other comic book writer I know.

Him and Greg Rucka have done a fabulous job of exploring the idea of a real police force working in a real city that happens to have Batman and theatrical villains in it; the fact that they're often embarrassed and ashamed to have to give their cases over to him when they can't solve them, as well as having Batman as an aspirational figure, is a really interesting angle.

Why this doesn't get talked about alongside the usual suspects like TDKR, Year One and The Killing Joke as one of best stories in the DCU is kind of a travesty. I guess the lack of Batman appearing has something to do with it, but it seems like a seriously underrated series.

Hopefully if the Gotham TV series ever gets off the ground then this may get some more recognition, even if it's not a direct adaptation. Serious, serious quality.

  3. Looking to buy a piece of OA, my first one so I'm going to have a really good look round first to make sure it's something I love. I'd really like to own some art by Riley Rossmo, in particular something from Dia De Los Muertos but I can't seem to find anything for sale other than a few pages from Proof. Is it standard practice to email the artists directly and ask?

  4. Yeah it is. Think I heard someone say there were 1000 copies of it, but there was no way they'd all sell out at the festival, so expect them to pop up online soon. And the interior artwork is very reminiscent of Sean Phillips; it's kind of a wonder why they didn't just do this together.

  5. Picked up this Sean Phillips exclusive variant at the Lakes Comic Art Festival today. Couldn't find a pic online so here's my shoddy camera photo. Great thriller that asks 'what-if Moneypenny all the 00 agents and not just Bond'. Another pure class read from Brubaker.

  6. £1 for each of the V's, £5 for Punisher, no more than a pound for the rest. Not a bad haul, I'd say. I'd picked out a third Action #1 reprint and Powers #1 for 60p each but I must have left them behind.

Also anyone have any idea what I could realistically sell the V for Vendettas for? I'm sure the missus has the TPB somewhere but I couldn't pass up the chance of picking these up for that price.
