  1. I've just spent the last year re-collecting every Captain Britain story leading up to his second introduction to U.S. Marvel comics in New Mutants Annual #2.

If you can't read them all, the stories of note for me are in the first 30 issues or so which includes the aforementioned Red Skull story guest starring Captain America and Nick Fury. After that the quality declined a little until the Siege Of Camelot storyline which featured in the Hulk Comic weekly and UK based creative team of Steve Parkhouse and John Stokes. This leads straight into the "new" Captain Britain storyline you mention.

I know that these are available in TPB; Captain Britain Vol.1 - Birth Of A Legend and Vol.2 Siege of Camelot

  2. As you mention, these UK magazine size comic books can be difficult books to grade given the paper stock, but I'm getting better at it. I expected a high grade and also had pressed and cleaned, but the 9.8 was a surprise.

I also had a few Vol. 2 issues graded as well; may put these up as a grading test, so everyone can try hone their comic magazine grading skills.

Regards reading, I'm biased as I grew up with the stories, but I think the early stories by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe are pretty interesting and some of the latter ones, particularly the Captain America/Red Skull storyline. Essentially this book had a US creative team, specially created British characters and was published in the UK; for that alone it is worth the read in my book.

That, and all the characters that had their first appearance in the books; Captain Britain, Elizabeth Braddock (aka Psylocke) and Lance Hunter (of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D).

  3. These books (or their UK reprints) were always advertised in the UK Hulk Comics which were newsprint magazine size books.

I've got a compete run of these which came with new Hulk material by some then, fledgling UK artists Dave Gibbons and Steve Dillon.

It also featured the first appearance of the lesser known, but awesome Night-raven (and precursor to V for Vendetta?) as well as an amazing ongoing original strip featuring Black Night & Captain Britain.

I've just had my Hulk #1 from the series graded

May need to turn my attention to Rampaging Hulk now, always been especially partial to the cover of Rampaging Hulk #9 too. Did these magazine's contain original material as well?

  4. Submitted a collection of Marvel UK books recently and would appreciate your thoughts on these. Worth noting, most feature paper covers as well, so can be very difficult to find high grade copies. Interesting to see what grades you think they'll achieve.

Second up is Captain Britain #1, launched in 1976, written by Chris Claremont and art by Herb Trimpe.

  5. Count me in!

The only sad thing about my copies being slabbed now is that I can't read them anymore (and the completist in me is disappointed with 3 9.6's); hanging out for the trade/digital editions. Now I just have to get all of these Signature Series.

Finally, I haven't forgotten that I owe you a picture of Issue 4.

  6. Interestingly here in Melbourne my LCS which has a standing order for me for one of each cover didn't receive them; yet down the road at another store (where I previously found two copies of issue 2) there were 4x copies of the Oeming Cover B. Ended up grabbing two copies (the other two were a little beat up).

I'm hanging out for the trade/digital editions as that should see a bump in readership. When did Enormouscomic say that was coming?

In other news, should be getting a delivery from CGC later today...

  7. Agreed, really appreciate it.

I just went back and re-read Issue 1 thru 3 again in anticipation of Issue 4 over the weekend.

Have to say the artwork and story is just awesome! Also I forgot that the forthcoming NYCC exclusive variants covers are actually taken from two amazing splash pages in these issues.

  8. Picked up some OA from Enormous.

    Wow! That's beyond cool.

Have suggested to Mike Oeming that he ready up his #4 cover art for sale!

I think every alternate cover is spoken for thus far with the exception of #4 and #6.

Issue #6 isn't available. I emailed Colin Lorimer and he advised that his cover was a digital work, so there is no hardcopy.

I also reached out to Mike Oeming, but heard nothing back; hoping that his #4 cover art comes up soon!

Medhi's Issue #1 and #2 covers are also already taken although the others will be made available soon.

  9. I just got an email from Forbidden Planet cancelling my order for Enormous #2 Christian Dibari Cover B.

"We have been trying to source more of this comic as we originally only received limited quantities from the publisher.

Unfortunately, we've just been informed that we'll not be receiving any further stock and regrettably we've had to cancel this title on your order."

    Sucks.

They have however shipped my order of Enormous #3 Delaine Cover B.

I feel for Tim and Medhi; this whole thing is terrible for a book with a small publisher trying to establish itself. Good news is that it seems that the book will succeed despite Diamonds best efforts...
