It wasn't a large increase in price. It was pretty much identical. I'm not sure what you're talking about here. "First Class" was just merged into "Ground Advantage" and the rates were nearly the same right from the jump.
I was going to post something similar, but decided not to when I decided that maybe he was talking about how a "Ground Advantage" package doesn't cost the same as the identical weight "First class" flat (envelope).
Which makes sense to me, as it requires different handling.

he suggested that I keep the item, buy another one from Amazon, and return the broken one- so I'd end up with a brand-new item for a huge discount. I told him that was stealing and that if I wanted to steal stuff, it wouldn't be a $200 item. He got mad and said he wasn't suggesting I steal anything. He said only a dishonest person would have an issue with his suggestion
So, he thinks only a dishonest person would have an issue with his suggestion of doing a dishonest thing?
That's some upper level "I know you are but what am I?" thinking....

Hi
I am seeing several WTB posts from users making their first post. Does anyone else think there is a need for a newbie WTB section for low post count users? There are users who do not post much at all, and I am sure they would appreciate having this forum. What do you think?
I'm not sure I understand the question - are low post count users unable to see the current WTB forum? If so, you are considering making another section for them to be able to post in? Or just allowing them into the current forum?

Parts of the run haven't aged that great, but for the most part I can read 90% of it happily today, a pretty good percentage considering the vintage, creators, and competition.
Might it be time to try an issue or two again and see if your views have changed over time? You never know...
Looks like I quit in the neighborhood of issue 364. I can't remember exactly what drove me away, given the over 30 years since, but I can't imagine the Lyja/Alicia thing really helped.
As for trying it, as I said I did eventually buy them, but given the (well over) 10,000 unread comics I've got around here, it seems unlikely I'd pick up something I disliked enough to actually break up a run like that.
And, hey, I readily admit that I might be in a minority - guy has a lot of books in his bibliography, so somebody must like his writing. No shortage of people with bad taste, amirite?

Last update the total was 127. Looks like this is a 2-month update, March and April (and a little May...)
Bullet Points 1-5
My latest read from J. Michael Straczynski aka JMS aka Joe. Probably my least favorite of his work that I've read recently. A decent premise - Make one little change, and the whole world can change. The change in this case was moving an assassins bullet (hence the name) back 1 day, so that Dr. Abraham Erskine (along with a solder by the name of Ben Parker) is killed by a German spy before the Super Solder serum is used on Steve Rogers, and thus no Captain America. A cascade of effects come from this one event, leading to some interesting twists. Felt like it tried a bit too hard to bring a bunch of "Oh yeah, that's neat" moments. An overdone What If? tale, as it was.Invincible 103-144
What can I say that hasn't been said before? Very, very good as always. And as with all good things, it eventually comes to an end. In this case, a pretty good end for an excellent series. Robert Kirkman is probably more well known as the creator of The Walking Dead, but Invincible grabbed me much more that his better known book.Wesley Dodds Sandman 1-6
One of DC Comics look at some of the Golden Age JSA characters, I really enjoyed this one. Having recently read the Sandman Mystery Theatre series, I thought this felt in line with that series and the portrayal there. Worth a look if you are a JSA fan.The Ribbon Queen 1-8
A bit of horror from the G-Man, Garth Ennis. An interesting series with a twist or two along the line. Like a lot of Ennis' work, it can be hard to see the lines, and tell who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. Or if there even are "good guys" and "bad guys."Black Hammer: The End 1-6
A reasonable tie-up to the Black Hammer world, although if you think Jeff Lemire is really holding to The End like with Invincible, I've got a Farm to sell you.Superman Year One 1-3
Frank Miller with (yet another) telling of the beginning of Superman's life on Earth. Frankly (heh), it was kind "meh" for me. It's no Batman: Year One, that's for sure.Robyn Hood The Curse 1-6
Chuck Dixon being a favorite of mine from back-in-the-day, thought I'd give this one a try when I saw it listed on Hoopla. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great, but at least worth reading. Enjoyed it more than the Van Helsing mini of his I read earlier this year.Killer Tales by Timothy Truman
Ran across this in a dollar box at a recent convention I went to, and I was sold when I saw Tim Truman in big letters on the cover:One of his first works (but not first released) in the comic book industry. Worth it if for nothing else but the quirky Truman art.
Quick Stops 2 1-4
More from the world of author Kevin Smith's Clerks. Enjoyed this more than the first series, which I thought required a great deal of Clerk's fanboy knowledge in order to follow along. This had connections, but you could have enjoyed this one without the slightest bit of familiarity with the movies.Norse Mythology II 1-6
Second series of Neil Gaiman's telling of the old Norse myths. As with everything Gaiman, very well written with a fun take on characters many Marvel fans might think they know.Kirby Genesis 0-8
More collaboration between writer Kurt Busiek and artist Alex Ross - with an assist (via characters developed) from the legend himself, Jack Kirby. Lots of Kirby creations - and when I say lots, I mean 3 or 4 (or 5, I lost track) whole teams of characters. Busiek did his best, but for this reader, way too much Kirby wacky characters, which made it hard to follow. Still worth it for the fans of any of the three, I'd say, just don't expect the best of any of them.MSH Secret Wars Battleworld 1-4
A supposed tale set between two panels of the 80s Secret Wars that gave us the Spider-Man black costume. Written by Tom DeFalco, I was reminded about why, after a nearly complete run of close to 400 straight issues of Fantastic Four, this completist collector stopped buying the title* due to how much I hated what DeFalco was doing. This wasn't as bad, but fairly blah - when the supposed surprise twist was something I saw at least 2 issues before (which is saying a lot in a 4 issue series) you can't really give it high praise. So assuming I didn't lose track, that adds up to 100 issues, bringing the yearly total to 227.
*And yes, in case you are wondering, I did go back 20 or more years later and pick up the missing issues from the dollar boxes. Completist collector, remember?

Written by James Hudnall, with art chores by a rotating cast of bland nobodies (though a young Mark Bagley does some credible work in the run), it doesn't take long for the book to be completely stripped of all of its charm and intricacy. This is some truly abysmal writing. The nuance and depth are completely jettisoned, as are most of the major plot-points. The alien Horde are dismissed casually in favor of some sort of story about assassins and a shadow government. You can practically feel the writer's eagerness to jettison everything that came before, to make way for the story he actually wants to tell. It makes no sense given what we'd read up to the point. Characterization is as flat as the bio on a baseball card. This is bad, bad stuff. Do not engage.
I'm a little surprised, I usually really loved the stuff from Hudnall back in the day. Although I will admit the story sounds like him....

Keep in mind...the Post Office, BY LAW, cannot own or operate airplanes!
That was mentioned before in this thread, but I've been unable to find such a prohibition, what's your source for that?
Most places, like postaltimes.com, say something along these lines:
"There is a very good reason for the USPS to avoid operating its own aircraft. First and foremost, it comes down to economics. Buying an aircraft, filling it with fuel, hiring pilots, and getting a ground game set up at airports is an expensive business, and mail is not a highly profitable sector."
The USPS history of airmail also has no mention of a law against operating their own airplanes. It notes that "On February 2, 1925, Congress authorized the Postmaster General to contract for airmail service. The Post Office Department immediately invited bids from commercial aviation companies."
Similarly, the Wikipedia article on airmail refers to the Kelly Act - "The Air Mail Act of 1925, also known as the Kelly Act, was a key piece of legislation that intended to free the airmail from total control by the Post Office Department. In short, it allowed the Postmaster General to contract private companies to carry mail." Note it says "allowed" rather than required.

We have a great post office here, but all mail is shipped to Portland, Oregon now for processing. So even mailing something within town can sometimes take 10 days.
I did a vacation mail hold, and slipped it in the slot on a Saturday, and it was shipped to Portland and never processed.
I usually do vacation holds on the USPS website, pretty quick and easy

Around 1990, I was set up at a NY show, and at the table next to mine was a store owner from Virginia. We spent four days talking and watching each other's table. He was near Alexandria, and I visited DC often, so a few weeks later, I dropped by his shop. It was a nice enough shop but I was stunned to find out he slept on a mattress in the backroom and showered at a gym. Living his dream came with a cost.
I was trying to figure out who this might be, but the only places I could think of in that area were either places that wouldn't be at a show in NY or owned by Geppi who I doubt was sleeping in the backroom (Although I could be wrong )

Hey, here's a question for @mycomicshop sellers, and maybe Conan will chime in if he has any thoughts. I had 15 books I gave them in Baltimore last year for consignment, and 10 of them have sold. The other 5 are getting to the point that I were I would probably drop the price to get it listed as "new in stock". There's a Prime auction going on now, and I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on when a good time to drop the price might be. Last time, I dropped prices right after the auction ended, thinking maybe I wasn't the only one who looked thru the listings to add something to my auction winnings, but only 1 book sold around then.
So, anyone have any thoughts on whether I should change now, change after the auction ends, or wait a few weeks?

I don't want to be worth too much to my wife though. Right now I'm worth a lot more alive as I still have a few years before I can start collecting my pension and if I die before I start collecting it is basically lost.
I'm a bit surprised by this - my wife has two pensions, and they both have provisions to pay her beneficiary (me) if she dies before she starts collecting.

I occasionally get family members who say I've got to get life insurance and tell me how little they pay for X amount of coverage. I tell them I don't have any and get a shocked look. My daughter is almost 21 and a year away from being out of college debt free so she doesn't need my money any longer. My wife gets all my retirement savings and extra cash so she should have no problem paying off the house with quite a bit left over and she makes good money on her own so why should she live lavishly when I'm gone. Life insurance is necessary when people depend on you but I don't see the benefit if it just makes my wife even more happy when I'm gone.
Yep - while I agree with the general point of this thread, as way too many people don't have enough insurance, it's also possible to have too much insurance, too. When it comes to life insurance, the question is "Is there anyone who depends on my income that will need support after I'm dead, and if so, how much?" If the answer to the first part is "no" you don't need life insurance.
Similarly, for many years now we've had a high deductible health insurance policy - we only need insurance for two things, to get the negotiated rate, and to cover a large bill. We can pay for the small, everyday things - often times, with the money we save by having a high deductible policy.

I'm not sure about this, but my accountant mentioned something that sounded like being able to claim and write yourself off, as an employee, IF you incorporate. That costs a bit more than a typical business license, $500 or more IIRC. I'm not sure what difference that would even make. GOD BLESS ...
Perhaps, but if you read what I was responding to he said as a "non-business" so I took it as that.
Even then, what you would deduct from your business income would be what you, the employee, is paid at a salary - and then you'd have to pay taxes on that as part of your income.

When reporting taxes from eBay sales, not sure if an non-business can take the following into consideration: (1) time spent listing items (2) fees to list items (3) time reading and responding to inquires (4) time, fuel, and costs to drive and purchase packing materials (5) time spent carefully packaging the items (6) time spent driving to FedEX/UPS/DHL/USPS and standing in line to ship the items (7) time/costs (use of printer and ink) to print out any statement which may go in the package (8) shipping insurance (9) vehicle insurance (not the entire cost, but a portion)
I believe item number "2" is something that can be taken into account, but none of the rest, you are right.

I don't mean "new" as in a fresh Wednesday release. I mean a book that isn't new, but is "new" for you, a first-time read. I bought this issue of 1st Issue Special a few weeks ago from a local comic shop and gave it a read. It's a Kirby book, with a group of misfit, or I guess, dingbat heroes that never really took off. I mean, I never knew about them before I found this book. Anyhow, it wasn't amazing, but I still enjoyed it. They're definitely a fun group and it would've been cool if Kirby's origin of "why they don't trust adults" had been released. How about you? Read any "new" books lately?
A good place to find stuff people have been reading is this thread:
In regards to the book you read, I recently read an actual "new" series that references those characters - and more from that time frame - called Danger Street. I rather enjoyed it.

It is potentially unethical (as you can never be sure whether something was done wrong before you were involved), but more importantly I'd say it's not very smart: If they would do such unethical things - and further have no problem telling you about it - what keeps them from doing unethical things to you?
