  1. If I were unscrupulous enough to shill, it would not have been on such a high dollar item. Just in case there is any concern about that on this item... I drove this up to Vincent in July and handed it over to him and we had a conversation about setting a reserve on the item. Once I handed it to him I parted with it emotionally (Sort of).

I told him I'd be happy with 15k and we both thought it could exceed that so I went with no reserve. I was elated when it broke 20.

Enjoy the page James, if I ever get rich Ill make you an offer, ;)

First and foremost, congratulations to you and James both.

You and Vincent were clearly right, but I'm curious as to what made you think that. I for one was quite surprised to see it go over 10k let alone 20. I'd be interested to know how you were able to make such a bold yet spot-on prediction. Especially when nothing in the market (to my knowledge) indicated that values were on the rise. In fact, until this sale I was beginning to think the market as a whole was on a slight decline (but that just might be me).

  2. Yeah - this might be my favorite as well. I asked Matt about it - it's actually an homage to an old paperback cover for Fahrenheit 451. Matt was totally unfamiliar with the WD 100 cover, do any similarity there is purely coincidental.

No auction on this one - it has already been sold. :sorry:

Damn, I inquired about it a few hours ago too. Looks like I won't be getting back the response I was hoping for.

  3. I would hope that any effect this might have on normal prices would be minimal. This is not a "normal" piece, which is why they took it to eBay. This is the only wrap cover of the series, a great image, and fully FOUR TIMES the size of a normal cover. The price is extremely high, but it's easy to see what makes this one special.

    +1

I don't see why this sale should effect the rest of the art. One strong sale of a special piece does not qualify as a new trend in pricing.

  4. I thought it was on par with this page:

I didn't think it warranted an extra $300, and figured we'd see it relisted a few times at lower prices before it sold. Shows what I know!

I would have loved the extra $300 on the sale of the above link... :(

I'd love an extra $300 too, but don't you think $670 was a good price for the page? I thought it a fair deal for buyer and seller alike.

  5. I thought that PREACHER 24 Page 07 was going to end up in an eBay re-listing cycle at $999.

    Guess I was wrong :sorry:

I'm not sure I understand what's going on with the price of this piece. Its an attractive page with Jesse and Herr Starr, from a relatively early issue and has good content.

Given all the discussion on this thread, you'd have thought this would go for $2.5K, instead of just $1K.

Anyone else feel the same? (shrug)

I guess I am just out of touch. 3 others (JJ, JJJ, and ArtistLost) all think it was a bargain at the $999 price. :o

I honestly don't know if it was a bargain or priced right, but I am merely stating that given all of the discussion in this thread, this page checked a lot of boxes people said they were looking for in a Preacher page so I thought it would have went for more.

I thought it was on par with this page:

  6. Seeing a lot of Reserve not met and high BIN's........

    Some good stuff ending tonight.

They didn't seem to get too high at all.

That one page with the Grimes family has been listed MANY times before. I'm pretty sure I've seen it go well above $1000 and not hit the reserve. I think people are just getting wise to the seller.

On the Michonne page only half the panels were originals. I'm not sure what the seller was looking to get on that but I think the reserve was too high whatever it was.

  7. hm .......... seems like people are testing the waters and feeling each other out on the WD cover on ebay. Think the last cover that made it to the end of bidding was bought by the Nowell Brothers.

The seller is a boardie (although an infrequent poster) and a buddy of mine. He also happens to be local to you in NJ. If you're seriously interested in the cover or any other pieces, my advice is to contact him ASAP. It's just as likely that he'll end the auction for an offer, as let it run its course. From what I've seen, anyway.

Tried and failed earlier today, (not one of the WD pages). I thought it was a good offer, but I guess I was way off. (shrug)

  8. Just got this back from the frame shop. On the left is a Steve Dillon Preacher interior, and on the right a Glenn Fabry (Preacher cover artist) painted pinup of Jesse Custer. I think it came out pretty nicely and the two look good paired together. This is also my first time uploading a picture to the boards using Photobucket, so I hope I don't mess it up!

  9. Just got this beauty in the mail:

    http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1131681&GSub=149489

It's a painted Preacher pin up by Glenn Fabry featuring a close-up of the one and only Jesse Custer. For those that don't know, Fabry's Preacher covers are all locked-up in a private collection, so even if I could afford one, (which I can't), it would be impossible to obtain. This feels like the next best thing, and I couldn't be more pleased with it! I'm framing this one right next to my Dillon interior.
