    Garry,

I found this blog dedicated to Ditko... it's still active, and there are a number of Mr. A essays... also on this link is the bibliography that they've posted of all the Mr. A publications they knew about.

I bet it would be fruitful to reach out to the owner of this blog...

    here's the bibliography

So... wait a sec... this particular piece is still showing in Vincent Facelina's CAF gallery, i'm guessing because you JUST got it. But... He got it directly from Steve Ditko and was willing to give it up? Like he met Steve, at his studio in the 80s, and Steve gave him this piece of art. And you were able to get it from him... smells like blackmail, or at least witchcraft, to me LOLOLOL :kidaround:

... joking aside... it would be a cold day in hell that you'd get this piece from me if it had that story... good job man. ^^

Doesnt show up in best of witzend... they only have one Mr. A. included in the edition and this isnt from it. Good luck figuring this out. If I see anything in my daily nerdings I'll let you know.

It's a great story. Vincent kept it for almost 40 years and then sold it to a collector i made a trade with.

That's great!  FYI that I looked through both issues of the Fantagraphics Ditko Collection books and it's not included in there.  Those books only go up to 1976, so it's possible this was done a bit later.

    thank you very much.

Wallace Wood's Witzend, perhaps?  I know Mr. A was first published there, but I am unsure of which stories.

Thanks Dave. I whish i have the Witzend reprints or the Ditko Collection edited by Fantagraphics in 1985.

It’s a great page. Dr Doom looks menacing in that Colan style. You should do well if you take it to auction. I’m curious to see what it goes for. I held a page in my hand from this book in the 90s for $175. I passed because my brother got the best of the two available pages out of FF 37.

One of the dumbest things I’ve ever done.

    Good luck!!!!

    Thanks! Page is gone!

Love that Wally Wood page!  Nobody, and I mean nobody, drew women like Wood (although Dave Stevens could give him a run for his money).

Every superhero costume since Superman has been derivative.  and Supes was likely derivative of something else.

Women by jack Cole not too bad either!

Disagree with just about all your statements on John Buscema.....but chat boards are for opinions so its all good!  :)

John's 70s Avengers and even his 80s 2nd run avengers art have all been selling for record prices for the past few years. (minus the early blah stuff from avengers 41-44)

John's Thor 70s art all has been selling for record prices over the past 2 years

John's Conan art inked by Alcala, Sal, DeZuniga, and himself all sell for record prices based on content. ( i just put 4 pieces of his 1982 movie art pages on my website and they all sold in less than 12 hours for 1200-1700 each

Johns FF art from his first run has probably TRIPLED in prices over the past year or so.

I follow EVERY AUCTION for price discovery and trends if i'm not buying.

Your comments about JB auction results is a bit Disingenuous since so much of his art is in every auction nowadays it seems... There are always good with some so so pieces in auctions these days....

and when couple decent pieces sell for 90% of retail its now a "SOFT" market?? LOL

i get guys from time to time telling me John Romita is a hack.... and i just laugh.....  as its their opinion..... and fine and well there also.

At the end of the day......John Buscmea is one of the best illustrators to ever put pencil to paper in comics history!

his doodles on the backs of art pages are masterpieces that very few out there could hope to draw...and he was just bored and passing the time when he drew this amazing stuff!!!

John Buscema could probably  draw with his LEFT HAND and still draw better than 90% of the artists who draw comics!

    Yes yes yes!

Of course, but, that doesn't mean that the broad middle of the Buscema market isn't looking a little squishy or that, broadly speaking, the real heat in the OA market isn't largely away from '70s material.

Good for buyers, though! Lots of great art from this period that is looking like better relative value all the time IMO. 2c

    you're right...

Didn't even get to the same price as a Buscema/Chan Conan/Belit splash from 2013. No excuses, it was a weak result.

Let's face it, the heat in the OA market is elsewhere than a lot of once-hot 70s material. I'm surprised that strip art is doing so well; probably in large part due to successful HA  marketing efforts in Europe in recent years if I had to guess.

still disagree about Big John! Any of his Silver Surfer or prime Avengers pages will hit the jackpot!
