  1. "Pro" shill bidders typically operate more discretely.  If the bidder and seller were friends obviously the bid behavior does draw some undesired attention, so if they were working in concert this isn't how the plan is supposed to go.  Though I suppose they could be "amateurs" :)

Speaking of FF 45, there is really no comparison between FF 45 and FF 48.  FF 48 is so much of a bigger key and is probably in the top 3 most important FF book out of the whole run.  It was undervalued back then, now it is starting to realize its significance in the marketplace.  I doubt prices will go down on this book.

    This.

FF48 is already highly desired without the Fox/Disney/MCU speculation.  Feige has already said Phase 4 of the MCU is going cosmic.  If the Fox/Disney deal does happen, you can bet that SS will be a key player possibly on the level of a Cap/IM with potential to appear across any of the movies.  With that said, I would say the potential upside is much greater than the downside.

  3. Ebay will side with the seller (you) as long as the carrier provided proof of delivery and you sent the package to a PayPal confirmed address.  All that's needed for proof of delivery is a tracking number; signature is not required.  I typically add signature requirement to protect the buyer for higher priced items - ie so the carrier won't just leave a box unattended giving it potential for all kinds of bad things to happen.

Everybody has to start somewhere.  What if this collector is 22, just started working out of college and had no need for an ebay account until now?  As long as the buyer has paid with a confirmed address - you are set as long as you hold up your end of the bargain.

  4. I don't disagree at all that there is much more demand. But these two books illustrate supply and demand very, very well.

We agree that NM 98 has way more demand. But there are VASTLY more copies. The result? MTU 1 is actually worth more in the NM grades

    GPA for MTU

    9.4 last sale $526

    9.6 last sale $895

9.8 - only one sale ever (only 3 exist) $5,000

    GPA for New Mutants 98

    9.4 last sale $375

    9.6 last sale $401

    9.8 last sale $800

No one should contest that NM 98 has tons of demand. If not for lots of demand this common as grass book wouldn't be worth crapola. But there exists significant demand for MTU 1 and it is massively less available in true NM grades. So - supply and demand at work - it's worth much more. In the case of 9.8 like 6x more.

The "value" of low census books is very skewed. The reason why the low census MTU high grades go for so much is the ultra high grade completions and those who compete seriously on the registry are willing to bid them up. Once that group has satisfied their needs, the price the next tier of collectors are willing to pay drops off a cliff.

How many collectors are willing to pay $5K for a MTU 1 9.8? How many collectors would pay $800 for a NM 98 9.8? If you offered dealers the choice of (1) MTU 1 9.8 for resale or (6) NM 98 9.8; which one do you think the large majority will select to move inventory? Ultimately supply and demand determine the price, but demand is much more influential.

  5. Tried hard to be hardcore, but it came off cheap.

Not sure why they had to "reveal" every character and villian within the 1st 30 minutes of the shows existence.

    Patrick

I couldn't agree more with these statements; lack of creativity and really just trying to sell the product on established names rather than adding substance to it.

  6. There are plenty of well established Chinese companies that have been profitable and paying dividends for years. You might hear about some "scam' stocks from time to time, but that's no different than the countless US companies that have gone bankrupt for whatever reasons. You've all got all those dot com busts with no revenue model; two companies in my area that aren't household names, Evergreen Solar went BK in 2011, A123 BK in 2012 after trading on the market for several years.

Look at the charts for this century and stocks like CEO and PTR completely destroy US oil king XOM. Over a 5 year chart BIDU and TCEHY both outperform GOOGL.

With BABA you are paying for potential, pure and simple, in the same way you would be going with an AMZN or TSLA. These companies if successful can scale very large, much more so than a DIS or an AF15.

  7. Thanks Bronze Age. The room gets very indirect light in the room. And the glass isn't conservatory museum but blocks 99% uv :wishluck::wishluck: TruView glass. I just couldn't lock them away, I need to see them everyday!

I would not leave the books there. They will eventually fade, just not as quickly as if the glass didn't have any UV protection. All types of light will eventually lead to fading; emphasis is always on UV only because its the most damaging.

    BTW some great looking books!

  8. Just picked this up today. It's part of a series of the Avengers being released over the next several months.

First was the Hulk two months ago.

    Now Black Widow

I'm collecting this set as well. Hulk is here, Widow on the way. I have to admit I prefer Iron Man in red versus the Marvel Now black scheme. But overall the set was too nice to pass up. It's interesting that Koto has released images of all the paint schemes except for Iron Man; still hoping they might switch to red.

  9. I only read about 20-22 pages into the thread and lots of questions on motive of sending in a PLOD 7.0 for re-grade. I don't see how this is any more silly than sending in a 6.0 universal for re-grade with the prominent spine crease; how could you expect that to score any higher than a 6.0 with that present? If it was never resubmitted....

I realize that's not the point of this thread, and it's about CGC's inconsistency. As stated many times already they only offer a professional opinion. If you should them the same book 100 times mixed in with hundreds of other books so they don't remember the same book, guess what, the result will not be the same 100 times. This is likely to be true if any of us individually went through the same process.

One thing we don't know is was the book "modified" after being in the PLOD 7 and before being resubmitted, from a detectable trim to a non for example.
