  1. Hi folks,

I used to be quite the avid collector. Bought and sold here a lot as well. I have a few keys up for sale on eBay for anyone interested. If my link doesn’t work just search SpideyFan78ct.

The auctions end Sunday night. Those books include Wonder Woman #160, Avengers #196, & Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane #106.

I have a TMNT Adventures #1 on there for BIN with OBO. Mention you’re from the boards and I’ll accept a counter with a offer.

    Thanks all!

  2. This used to be one of my favorite threads, now it's dead

    Everyone speculates alone?

    :D

no news is good news... now we can collect in peace. :)

Eh, there's something to be said about enjoying seeing the trends in comics. Analyzing, predicting, and having fun with the hobby.

One man's annoyance is another's amusement.

It’s not about annoyance, it’s about rising prices…

Ok, but that doesn't invalidate my reasons for enjoying this thread

  3. Agreed. Frank and Sons is frustrating nowadays. Luckily I'm around 20 minutes away from them so it doesn't take too much out of my day to stop by on a Wednesday and see what new inventory some of the dealers have brought in.

I think the key is to become well-acquainted with a vendor there who will let you know when new collections come in. At the least, when they have unpriced collections, they'll let you gander beforehand. That should be common knowledge to all of you though. I was able to get my TTA35 that way.

I also got my DD1 for cheap a month ago from Frank and Sons so maybe it isn't that bad...

Personally, I think the best shop in Southern California is Earth 2 Comics hands down. Carr is an amazing dude who prices nice books to sell. Everything is in Mylar and he buys collections frequently. It's like Blastoff comics except cheaper. He's one of the only guys I know that'll take 30% off his wall books during sales like Black Friday. I was able to get a decent Green Lantern #76 this year for under $100 because of that.

  4. I'm seeing Avengers #57 plummet back to Earth.

Feeling bad for anybody who bought the book a year ago.

Was that movie hype? Very unimpressed with The Vision in A2, and one of my favorite Avengers as a kid. Killer covers on 57 & 58

I think it's safe to say almost everything is movie/tv show related hype now.

+1. And to that end, Av57 will move back up as soon as Vision appears in the next Captain America Civil War trailer, which is probably a couple of months away. (Viz didn't appear in the trailer released last week.)

I would agree. I suppose now is a good time as ever to grab a copy.

Has anyone seen any major books take downturns recently? I'm talking about JIM83, Avengers #1, etc.

I think I've also seen a decrease in demand for TTA #35.

  5. I am back in the club with this copy I picked up at my LCS for $50.00 canadian ( about $38.00 USD )

I'm a very jealous man. Although I've ran into enough good deals during my years as a collector that I'm always very happy for someone to stumble upon a good deal. Congrats!

I do agree with SPECTRE_nWo in the feeling that this book is totally overhyped. Is it a kickass bronze age book with an underutilized character? Absolutely.

Is it worth more than a plethora of other bronze age gems such as TOD10/MS5/HOS92/HFH1? That's for you to decide.

I'm not pretending to be an expert who knows the census numbers, but I think Ghost Rider has a lot more going for him than Moon Knight. At this point you'd expect Moon Knight to have as much exposure and popularity as the Punisher since their books are almost equal in price now, at least in lower grades.

  6. This past Saturday, saw this copy on display at a shop I frequent.

Normally a book like this is out of my range, however, it had a price tag that made me do a triple take.

Needless to say it's in my possession now. I'm so glad to own it!

  7. I got a PM from rip67vdub wanting to finish the transaction that wasn't honored initially.

I already ended up selling the book to the other buyer in my sales thread who was hoping to get it. He paid immediately and the transaction went smoothly so I'm not sure there's much else to deal with in this case.

I appreciate rip67vdub coming to me about finishing the initial deal for the Squirrel Girl book.

  8. I nominate rip67vdub to the Probation List due to the events that happened surrounding the transaction for a Marvel Super Heroes Winter Special (1st Squirrel Girl.)

Have you sent him the 72hrs notice of nomination via separate PM?

Yes I notified him in a separate PM of his nomination a few days ago on 8/21.

  9. Jerry bought a few books from me. The transaction was very smooth. He even bought an additional order and let me know immediately so I could package them all together instead of doing two separate orders.

It worked out very well and I'm glad to have the opportunity to sell to him :)

  10.

Please nominate him to the Probation List so that we can begin his case file. That behavior doesn't fly here. You are correct - the principle is important.

    +1

If he doesn't respond here, he's pretty active on the Blowout Cards forum, so you might be able to alert him via PM there.

I just posted my nomination in the PL discussions.

  11. I nominate rip67vdub to the Probation List due to the events that happened surrounding the transaction for a Marvel Super Heroes Winter Special (1st Squirrel Girl.)

In a sales thread I had running, I listed the book. Once I put it at 10% off, he and another individual both wanted it within a few minutes. rip67vdub was the first to take it.

In order to honor that, on 8/14 after posting an i'll take it in my thread I sent him this message:

Hey, thanks for buying from me. If anything else caught your eye in my thread but you felt the price wasn't right. Let me know and maybe we can work out a bundle.

If the 1st Squirrel Girl is all you'd like, here's my Paypal address: (removed)

    $27 + $5 shipping = $32 total.

I'll be sure to package it securely and send it priority 2-day mail.

    -Chris.

On 8/16 and 8/17 I sent the following messages asking about payment and explaining my reasons for asking, yet still no response. I wasn't ready to assume negatively yet as some people get tied up with other things or unfortunate situations occur.

    When will you be paying?

Hi, not to be rude, but I was selling a lot of my books to make a purchase of my own so I was hoping payments would be arriving sooner rather than later. I have your book already packaged and ready to go!

    -Chris.

    Finally on 8/20 I sent:

If you don't plan on paying, let me know now because you keep reading my messages but don't respond.

    To which he responded

Sorry, but I ended picking up one from a LCS for $30. Thanks.

In the end rip67vdub decided it was more convenient to save $2 and feel that instant gratification. Thank goodness he at least owned up and told me he has no intention on buying the book as I could've been sitting on it for weeks.

It's a shame as there was another potential buyer in line who could've already had the book in his hands if rip67vdub had told me earlier his intentions.

  12. That's pretty crummy if they took the book in your thread and haven't honored that commitment and hurt you selling the book as other people were interested in it

I would agree and I feel justified as I know others would hold the same sentiment.

It wasn't a high valued item either so it's not this painstaking process. The principle of how it went down is what's disappointing to me.

  13. I had an individual who purchased a single $30 item from me 4-5 days back. I gave him the total dollar amount and where he could send payment to but instead decided not to respond to me.

I know that there are guidelines we follow when it comes to selling and there's an amount of time a buyer has to make payment so I wanted to honor that. After asking when he would be paying and explaining my reasoning for asking, he still chose not to respond. He was clearly reading the messages, but I decided to think optimistically and maybe there was a reason behind it.

Finally today I messaged him saying "If you don't plan on paying, let me know now because you keep reading my messages but don't respond."

He admitted "Sorry, but I ended picking up one from a LCS for $30. Thanks."

Apparently the item must have been in slightly higher grade or something because that's pretty low to bail out on someone who was going to provide you the same item for $2 more. I suppose he must have zero patience.

This is my first time posting here so I'm refraining from putting his board name. Let me know if I should proceed by calling him out.
