Here's a link you should read:

  2. I don't know if it's written anywhere, but I'm 99% sure it was Lovecraft writing for Houdini in the other issues too. It being over 90 years ago now, it'd take someone who is an expert in "forensic writing" to be able to prove it and even then only with a high degree of certainty. Houdini was a great man, just not a writer. Lovecraft on the other hand...

And Lovecraft? He created entire universes where crazy mess happened. People like REH created characters who just so happened to be in other worlds. A lot easier to put characters like Conan on the cover then the Cthulhu Universe; especially if they are wearing two piece bikinis and being sex whipped.

  3. I have a complete set minus 7 issues (1-3, 5, 7-9; all from 1923) of Weird Tales/Oriental Stories/Magic Carpet. Condition across the set is roughly fine. Later issues are VF/NM and many are from the Bethlehem pedigree. Earlier issues from the early to mid 20's range in condition from good to fine. The stuff from the late 20's and thirties is in about fine/fine- on average with many in VF.

Condition is much higher then that set Adventure House was trying to sell earlier this year where the first 50 issues were all low grade, trimmed and bound before he broke it up.

It's my personal collection. I've bought at sold about 2000 issues of Weird Tales both as single copies and collections to get to this point.

I might sell it; but you are looking at low 6 figures.

  4. I was watching that one because I thought it looked like a cool book, but had no idea it would go for so much. I have a lot to learn.

it shouldn't have gone that high. Two people got way too excited. I bought the exact same book in VF off ebay a month and a half ago at auction for something like a couple hundred. I'm guessing, neither party wanted to lose out on a copy a second time. It's a "you see it for sale once a decade" book normally. Realistically this book in this condition is only 400-600 or so. VF is maybe a 1000. But two guys wanted it bad so....

  5. Not the place for it, but hard to get you pulp guys attention otherwise. Anyone know a good non-online source for Stanton and Lee hardcovers? It's a rare arkham house poetry imprint. Thought someone might have a lead considering AH is like material.

Oliver and the wayward owl 1945

    bright journey 1953

    wind over Wisconsin 1957

    restless in the river 1965

    night letters 1971

I've checked all the online sources and either they aren't present or aren't in good enough condition. I need my copies to be virtually perfect and all first editions from the Stanton and lee publishing house with dj.

Any help would be financially appreciated in tracking what I need down.

    Thanks. - M

  6. I hope your aren't talking about the copy that just sold on ebay that was originally priced at 22.99 from glass house antiques?

That's a BCE. They cut the dj to hide it, but the copyright page is different from that of a first.

Compare your copyright page to this one:
