  1. Whoa!

American Gods Casts Emily Browning As Laura Moon

Starz has cast Emily Browning as Laura Moon in American Gods.

Based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed fantasy novel, American Gods follows ex-convict Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) as he takes a job with the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) and ends up caught in a war between old gods and new gods.

Laura is Shadow’s wife who has been waiting for Shadow to be released from prison. She doesn’t realize that her actions and Shadow’s release will lead her on an entirely unexpected journey.

Browning received a Critics Choice nomination for Best Young Actress for her performance as Violet in 2004’s film adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Her credits also include Sucker Punch, Legend, Ghost Ship, Ned Kelly, Pompeii and Magic Mike.

You get to see all of her in "Sleeping Beauty" :headbang:

  2. They forgot to mention the direct Chronicles of Narnia aspect with the Fillory books. Like you mentioned, both the Potter and Narnia aspects are just the surface. Once you get past that, the many twisted layers are enjoyable. I like a slow burn :)

  3. I want to like this but there are a few things with shows like this (and how they did similar in HP) that bugs me. It's where the magical world people seem to act like everything in there world is and should be common knowledge, especially to the newly introduced, almost to the point of being insulting to the newbies.

At least Julia acts like we would act; Magic is real / embrace it!

as opposed to; Magic is real? I can't believe it?!?! (annoying)

    my 2 cent rant....

  7. Why do I get the feeling that the guy Gemma was with is the guy who was after her. He didn't want her to find the astronaut mass grave because he killed them and did not want her to leave . just a thought.

While I don't disagree that it's possible & would be interesting, how does he get from being right next to her to into the astronaut suit in front of her almost instantly? I don't think that's believable for him to have set it up or to have been able to predict when that storm was going to hit for him to set up the space suit ahead of time.

What/why was he shooting? Why did he insist that she run/go?

  8. In the early 80's when the New Mutants were introduced, the only way I could get the MGN #4 was to order it from Bub Plant, which for me, mail order stuff was few and far between. After I got my copy, a short while later I got another package from Bud Plant. They had mistakenly sent me another copy! I had since kept this copy untouched all this time until this grading which I received last night!

  10. So my magazine arrived today. They told me 3 months on the phone but it has only been about 1 month

Did you drop it off at a Con or mail it in? I dropped a Magazine track on the 1st of August at the Boston Con (in system Aug 10th). Wondering if I should be checking the mail :)

  11. I dropped some books off at the Boston Comic Con on August 1st. I have not had any email notifications or know of a way to check the status of my order. Should I be getting some form of notification that I'm in the system or since this was collected onsite at a con I need to wait a bit more?

My books got in the system from Boston on the 10th. I dropped them off on Friday, but still, yours should be in the system. If you're a collector's society member you can monitor your subs. if not... you could call to check to see if it's in the system.

I am a free member of the collector's society so I can't track.... sniff

I do have credit card charges for the 12th. Called them up to get the invoices for all orders (had to do 3 separate because of different groups).

So what are the current turnaround times for:

    Magazines?

    Signature Series?

I don't see what Sig Series times are and was curious as to where Mags are currently...

    Thanks!

  13. I liked AoU but felt that there was a lot missing (much of which is fixed in the Directors Cut) Come on I always see Marvel movies like a week before release :P You know that. Wanted to punch Miles Teller (spelling?) in the face the whole time. Michael B. Jordon I have to give a lot of credit to, he was really good. The girl who played Sue (Kate Mara?) was interesting. Played the roll more "motherly", which I felt was better than Alba's take.

Hey now! Isn't there an embargo on reviews? (tsk)
