  1. Anthony Snyder came through San Antonio on Wednesday. I’m sure you’re all aware of his stops as he heads back to Jersey! He does a good job posting his new pieces and he gets a lot in frequently, so I took a few pics that I thought would interest the Boards. I didn’t take a picture of his wall because the glare was really bad, and again, most of it is posted on his site. Here are some pics of things I didn’t recognize (one or two pieces I photographed because the scans on his site don’t do justice). If it had a price tag I took a photo; if it didn’t, inquire with Anthony.
  2. No, you had it right. I misinterpreted your sentence. I’m having on off day. You’re the second person today to tell “me” that he is looking for Sandman pages, if that tells you anything. I thought I saw one on Albert Moy’s site, but I’m sure you know that.
  3. I’m not at all qualified to answer this. Rhetorically speaking, what were prices on average before this? How often do these Smith pages pop up? What I find interesting is that this topic was brought up before the auction ended. Not at all saying there was a correlation between the video and the auction, but the final auction price seemed to back what they said? did you watch the video, Malvin? Did I get it right? Or am I misspeaking again 😬 I have no dog in this fight, dear readers. Just info sharing.
  4. Sooo sorry Chris. I meant Greg Land. They spoke a lot about Bruce Lowry that I converged the two names. My portmanteau turned into a malapropism ☺️ Here is the link anyway
  5. I don’t know anything about Breyfogle Sandman but Breyfogle Batman pops up often enough. The problem with Brey-Bat is that when they pop up they get snatched up quickly. Like in a few hours quick. I don’t look hard for McGuiness Deadpool but I don’t see it often and less often than Breyfogle. IMO it’s harder to find and it’s just as wanted so expect stiff competition. My advice is keep focused and be patient and build your budget outside of your comfort zone. Many of us pay outside of our comfort zone because that’s what it takes to complete our mission. Turn over every stone and shake a lot trees. Posting here is a good start. Create “want lists” on eBay, Heritage Auctions, and Comic Art Tracker. Good luck!
  6. Did anyone watch the CAF video of the conversation between Bill Cox and Greg Land that Bill posted? They have a short conversation about Paul Smith X-Men art and its rarity and paying a premium just to have an example. Apparently Paul has held on to most of it? Not my wheelhouse so feel free to correct me.
  7. Was this the Tank Girl page? Did you two strike a deal? i like connecting collectors with pages on their want list so I’m literally asking for a friend.
  8. So you didn’t trade with John? You were just a previous owner?
  9. Maybe it’s not art at all. Maybe it’s John’s drum set Nonetheless, cheers
  10. Wow...you really are sticking to that collecting window. Will you later be sharing the piece you traded for? Is it Defenders 125 ?
  11. I’m head scratching here. I thought it was public knowledge, or publicly discussed here that they own a printing business, hence all the stats on their art. So the art stuff is secondary income, although as I stated, I thought they are the ones who sold “Master Race,” so wouldn’t a $600k give them wiggle room to take “losses” nowadays? They live in Northern California, near Sacramento, so traveling to San Diego is pretty affordable. Even with high booth fees and think they can at least recoup with a few sales. What I’m blabbering on about is that they don’t need to sell art to survive and they make more sales then we think they do. I know (black hole) collectors who have bought from them at shows. Coolines will give you a price break for multiple pieces which makes it easier to digest. And :gasp: they are also friendly.
  12. Around 2014 I purchased several two-figure pieces from them and flipped them at 3x my cost. I became the third Donnelly.
  13. I was under the impression from previous threads that they were the consignors of the $600k “Master Race” art? If so, they’ve been using that money to outbid smaller collectors for smaller items so they can jack up the prices. (I’ve been the only concerned/incensed about this) Also, gives them more room for these expenses.
  14. My thoughts exactly on those third rate covers. When did this happen?
  15. Looks like Steve Morger set up? And is that David Mandel in the background? Gulp.
  16. There’s a good chance it may appear at the next Hakes auction with a lower price. I’ve seen it done before.
  17. I started collecting comic art in 2013. My wife and I had our first child in 2014. I should’ve stopped collecting, but no. Then in 2016 we had a second one and should’ve stopped there, but no. I did stop reading weekly comics though. I used to take my daughter to smaller, less crowded cons. I frequently take my kids to comic shops though. That first year of collecting I bought 3 pieces of art (out of 97 posted in CAF) with real, paycheck money. Otherwise all my buying comes out of selling collectibles, comics, and whatever I can get money out of selling on eBay. So with the exception of the previous example, I don’t use “real” money to buy art. It’s money I already spent years ago. And of course, after collecting for a while, I do sell art in order to trade up or let go of pieces as my tastes change. Since I only buy with what I can raise, it puts a cap on my spending, and makes for a modest collection. It does, however, make me get creative and disciplined, putting together a collection.
  18. I believe something is up with CAF. Thumbnail images load up but not the images in individual entries. This through my phone, on network and wi-fi.
  19. Good read. That last paragraph reinforces my belief.
  20. Fun podcast to listen to, Felix and Ron. In especially enjoyed the history behind the Miller piece and just how those deals go down. So about those mail-in and fax bids. I wonder what their win rate is? That analog method of bidding may sound antiquated but I bet it keeps the exuberant bidding in check!
  21. I hope I’m not misreading what you write here, but just throwing out there. During his podcast, Jim Halperin said that he and his employees can bid on lots so long as it’s during proxy bidding and not during live bidding. So if the winning bid was by phone, couldn’t we cross off Jim as the winner of EQ?
  22. Have you read this by any chance? I know it’s pricey. I just wonder if by future he means comic art going digital and such?
