The difference is each company did not view those properties as negative to the company itself. Based on a number of articles going back two years, it seems Marvel believed it had a problem and then sought to mitigate it with various changes. When those appeared not to do the trick, they directed the present course. I'm still mystified as to why they decided to take any action at all... It reminds me of that ridiculous political group a few years back who wore Hawaiian shirts (!) as their uniform, leading some pundits to declare that anyone who wore them must be aligned with that group's POV. Thank God that idiocy went away, but I don't think Marvel's treatment of the Punisher will be so easily remedied.

Sometimes characters do run their course and vanish forever, but I'd be shocked if we've seen the last of the Punisher.

We do happen to exist in a time when the mere depiction of something is often viewed as tacit approval for it - the Punisher's murderous vigilantism may in fact make various people at Marvel / Disney nervous in the current climate (I don't have any special insight into this, so I can't say you're wrong)... nevermind the fact that such a response is exactly the point of the character if you bother to examine Frank Castle beyond the surface layer.

However, what we as fans have to always be cognizant of is that these characters are IPs first and characters second. The people responsible for these IPs will change every decade or so and entirely new directions can and will be taken based on current trends and societal norms... or, as I previously mentioned, simply because a writer needs to meet a deadline and wants to take a shortcut by leaning on continuity.

In this case the character didn't "do" anything... yet the parent company has decided to burn down his whole background because of some minor outside usage they didn't approve of? That's damn foolish, considering he is one of the most iconic Marvel creations of the past 50 years.

It is quite difficult to destroy anything in comics, especially if there's any value in it. Continuity can always be revived at a later date. Some writer up against a deadline will lean into what came before as a quick way to add depth - that's a story almost as old as comics at this point.

  4. Hi,

Listed this last week but wanted to try out a single book post before I move things to eBay. Thanks for reading!

    Rules

    No HOS / probation.

    Slabbed book sales are final.

These books are unavailable elsewhere while this post is active.

The first unedited claim referencing a given item has won that item unless it was previously placed on hold.

Vague claims may lead to confusion, please be specific when making a claim. PMs are welcome, but claiming in thread is king.

I won't sell via proxy - if you claim in thread, then yours is the only name and address that I will ship to or accept payment from.

Payment will be by check, cash, money order, or PayPal - paying via PayPal means that the only name and address that I will ship to is that associated with the paying account.

Payment must be received within 5 business days of your claim being acknowledged or I reserve the right to make the book available for sale once more.

Shipping is via USPS to the CONUS.

Books will ship once payment clears.

Slabs will be insured for their purchase price, the cost of which will be split between the seller and buyer.

The base shipping cost for a package (via USPS flat rate box) will be paid in full by the buyer.

All of the above holds true unless some prior arrangement is reached via direct message prior to your claim in thread.

    $2999
