  1. latest CL pickup - the condition is shaky on some, but enough there to buy the drek that it took to get the rest the hulk hits a 5 at best - probably a 4 full black panther run (they needs to make a movie announcement soon) the x men made this worthwhile a lot more in the x men set - but those were the earliest Iron Fist 15 in the box somewhere too
  2. niiiiiiccceeeee let the "found and action 1 at a garage sale" discussions begin!,
  3. I have a similar book with an Alka Seltzer insert in addition to the Mark Jeweler. Surely I love them, also because they "protect" the book more. How would you grade your #122? – personally I would not slab these… IT is a difficult one - because without the main defect - could be an 8+ (might reach a 9 with a press) --- but the staples on the outer cover each have the 4 horizontal tears - maybe 1/4 in - that allow the cover to pull away from the book. This is one of the reasons I am thinking of a press and slab- as handling risks growing these. If I had 4 small tears on their own (just on the cover) - would think the book might reach 7 to 7.5 -- but at staples - 6 tp 6.5.... This one - to me is really a slabber if only to preserve the grade. I have marvel unlimited for reading. The 122 is definitely a keeper. Wish the original owner kept collecting for 7 more issues though.......
  4. OK - so now every one of the books now has to go under the microscope --- Not a full key - but a mini one found - ASM 122 (death of goblin) - has the marks insert - and a second insert inside (mennon contest and federal credit union ad) - almost like a second cover (made from what looks like cover material). no blue star book seems in decent condition except for the staples - fully attached - but with the 1/8 or less tearing crosswise around them. Probably getting this pressed and slabbed - if only to make sure the staples do not shift any more. Any clue on this? - does the second ad make this any more rare?
  5. MJI (and National Diamond) were put in books distributed to overseas military bases (although it has been confirmed that some were distributed at US bases). They ran in every 32 page book (not giants or square bound) from most of the major players (Marvel, DC, Dell/Gold Key, Charlton) from '72 through the early '90s. Unless you have one in a key issue you're not going to see any premium. However, I have seen where they actually make the sale on some more common and/or lower grade books that just don't seem to move. So - any estimate on the premium? - As luck would have it - the latest collection that I bought was from a military estate - have an IM 55 with the diamond insert - I saw images in the thread with the insert noted on the slab- but no real mention in GPA as far as I can tell. THANKS in advance Congrats on the pick up. Yours is the only other copy of that that I have heard of. Any opinion on the grade ? Does it have the star stamp? As far as "premium paid", some people won't pay any, others will. I would say a majority would pay a premium if the insert is in a big key like your IM 55, and the issue is in relative high grade (8.0+). I've seen other keys with the insert sell at a 15-20% premium under those circumstances. Maybe even a little more. -J. No star stamp - with a press - 7 or better - the book is in good shape - some creasing that should press out - no matter what the grade, it is a cool book and the score of the collection - saw this thread earlier but did not realize until tonight that the 55 had the insert (sold an IM 54 to a boardie that had one so I checked)

  7. Thanks Chip! I am very pleased with it too. It is nice to "belong" somewhere. Ditto on the coolness of the pin - hard to overpay at $10.
  8. The ipad camera really cannot do these justice - they are from a pick last week - just got back from the framers. All three of the posters - not mint - but really close. Some wrinkling around the edges - but no tearing and it looks like they were never hung up!!! Need to go get a black-light or two.....
  9. The coverless might have value in the Custom Binding community, depending on what's in there. Using cover scans some hobbyist might be able cobble together a shelf-worthy custom hardcover of some favorites. The cover-less were really junk - I think the only real book was a silver surfer 3 - and that was trashed. I went through all of them to double check - looking for ones that might be of use to someone (as very early ASM/FF would not have been out of place) Most were 1970+ dates as well - so in the strange reverse thing - the coverless books were newer - probably 70% were also cartoon books (not marvel/DC)
  10. quick update - first hundred sorted and bagged - covered the ASM, FF, IM and X-Men All of the "keys" (any level) of the big ones have been posted - no idea of the full count yet - but probably 1000+ total. Anyone on the hunt - NEVER turn down the items that people want to throw in. The sellers grabbed all from some estate sale - including a box of what appeared to be coverless drek - I basically told them I would take them but no real increase in $$$ - dug through this - Resulted in a stack of 25 more books (and some paperbacks) - No showstoppers - but G to VG books with 12c to 15c cover price - nothing to sneeze at.... After pulling out the big names and looking over the rest - the whole thing has the look of a "neatstuff" auction - but at 1/10 the price. Will hopefully get a final count later today.
  11. They are pretty low grade - but still worth some $$$ - I actually have a graded WMD already - so great to be able to sell an undercopy (though the WMD is really a reprint of the 1st appearance) - the one you see - really a 2.0 or lower - you can see a rough spine tear in the pic much easier once you get them back to look over - for larger groups you have to just kind of average - and it is a risk. I am NOWHERE near as good as many here (see Chip!) - just have fallen into some decent scores recently. Note that the pics probably look a lot better than the grades - the silves are VG average - meaning some are G - some (more the newer) range to FN. I do not mind dealing in these kinds of books though, as less overall risk (the buy price does not break you). I usually keep and sell - my goal with any big buy is to be able to sell as much of the bulk as possible - to be bale to keep 10% or so. Slabbing - so far ( and really have only begun to bag/board and inventory ) - the IM 55 is the one that seems worthwhile - might be able to press to a 6 or better.
  12. Finally - lots of spider goodness!!!!! ASM haul - 32, 35, 36, 38, 41 (torn cover), 42-45, 49, 51, 53-56, 62, 66, 69-71, 74, 76, 93, 102, 109 x2, 110, 114-117, 119, 120, 122, 123 (what a tease - no 50, 129 etc - but still COOL) good stack of superman and family stuff - and batman/tec. Avengers - mad haul - 18, 21, 22, 25, 30, 31, 41, 42, 44, 48, 49, 60, 62, 64, 67, 101, 104-108, 111-113 and a huge set of daredevil - (earliest issues are beat - but a 2.0 12 center is a 2.0 12 center) 12, 13, 19-24, 29-34, 36, 37, 44, 46 x2, 48, 54, 63, 88, 89, 91-100, 102 add to this a ton of random books and the prerequisite 2 short boxes of archies/dells - a strong haul for a Tuesday......
  13. the little mini book is from 1966 - has a 1" spine split - but still cool - The FF 48 hid from me for a bit - I thought I imagined it for a while...... A couple of other cool pics some x goodness - had several more of the reprint era...
  14. more pulls - FF goodness and an older hulk some of the older ones are beat - but a 2.0 FF 50 is still a good score some older caps - and the MSH 18 IM 50 to 61 run - with 55
  15. I was worried about the typical craigslist thing - but was a decent haul. I did buy all of them - which included a box of coverless drek ( - just hinting for ASM 1 or AF15 in there) Was a little more than 1 a book - but not much (for the actual books - not the coverless junk) they said that was a typo the couple of craigslist scores I have had - tended to be like 20% 12 and 15 cent books - the rest higher even through older bronze. This one? - more than 50% silver age and probably 80% or more were DC/Marvel. Overall - I know I paid more than I probably should have - but as I was doing the quick sort - I kept seeing book after book that was a $10 ticket. Some images to start us off - random bats, silvers and the first mini key ---
  16. reserving some space here - gonna be some NICE pics later - saw a CL ad - ________________________ Vintage comic books for sale! - $1 Over 1000 vintage comic books for sale '68-'72. Marvel, DC, Gold Key, Archies, Mad. ______________________________ Was pretty non descript - and the response I received was not all that helpful when I asked for any pics or any other info "you have to come see them" - but took the lunchtime drive anyway. Apparently, someone else was going to look today- but cancelled. YOUR LOSS!!!! I need to really sort - but I would estimate that 1000 marvel/DC books alone. Age slants more towards silver - with some early bronze (usually I see a handful of condition - not the best - but better than my last one - average VG+ for the silver slanting to VF or better for the bronze. Some gems that I was able to see - FF 48 and 50 Cap 110 IM 55 marvel super heroes 18 TONS of ASM and FF - some of each in the "teens" issues - some early x men - the guys bought from a hoarders garage sale - wanted to flip all as a set and quickly - knowing me, I paid more than I should - but given what is there I know I will be able to break even and keep around 100 or so of the mini keys. I did not see any major keys - but it was not priced as if a hidden hulk 181 was in there. Excited to pull out all the ASM - as the numbers are in that "could be" zone (lots of early - but some of the later cool areas like 110, 124) - did not see 129, but I was in fast assessment mode. A load of coverless junk too - will have to sort through and probably recycle all of those - but given the breadth and timeline of the collection - I will have to sort through them just in case. Some early JIM and THOR as well. this whole day job thing is really getting in the way, .
  17. Saw your other post on this - was wondering which book you were talking about. I generally snag a lot of their better silver books - but I do not stray much from the "hero" venue, Nice score - based on when you posted (in the WW thread) - we could have been there at the same time.... later
  18. good luck man - 2h is a rough drive for a "possible" score -
  19. With the overwrap wrinkling at the top and bottom of the FC - I think more of an 8.5 - but that should be curable with a press if you are going to slab.....
  20. update - the other two posters are the surfer "i'm changing" http://www.ebay.com/itm/SILVER-SURFER-POSTER-Marvel-Third-Eye-Black-Light-1970s-Jack-Kirby-/171398359834?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item27e8236b1a And the- Hulk Ronnkk http://www.comicsvalue.com/Marvel-Black-Light-Third-Eye-Poster-HULK-RONKK-4020/321219782115.html not my pics obviously - have them put in a safe place for the time being
  21. http://www.estatesales.net/estate-sales/WI/Janesville/53546/699336?highlight=archie FYI - I went to this estate sale. I actually knew about this way before this post, as Rcheli had asked if I wanted to go. I decided based on the books that I would head up there the night before to avoid a long drive very early in the morning. Rcheli couldn't make it so it was just me and the CEO Wife and I both got there, and I started the sign up sheet so I was #1 on the list to go in. Got our numbers at 8:30 like the website mentioned, then went straight for the comics at 9:00am. Grabbed the box, while my wife went to go pay. That's where things went to... Hopefully you got the books at a decent price - shame about the others. Hard to find any real decent estate sales in my area. If they have decent books - they are well overpriced.
  22. thx - I figured they (the posters) were the sleepers of the haul - just the age and the surface quality my assumption - they are rolled up now - professional mounting would not hurt the value? - like "the great frame up" someone asked - there were around 40 of the magazine sized "savage sword of Conan" series - in decent shape 6.0 to 8.0 - maybe better if ranged form 80-200 with a run from 100-126 in there.
