  1. Love it. There's nothing like those stories. Of course in today's comics that Rat Island story would have taken 6 issues, had 1 recalled "obscenity" version, 2 variant sketch covers by Michael Turner, and been collected into a TPB 3 months after the last issue (which arrived 4 months later than scheduled) hit the stands.
  2. I have almost all of the Overstreets. Here are the ones I grabbed off the shelf... Black Cat Mystery #50 1970 - No listed 1976 - $4 / 3 / 2 1977 - $4 / 2.75 / 1.35 1979 - $6.75 / 4.50 / 2.25 1984 - $40 / 20 / 6.75 1994 - $85 / 6 / 12 1995 - $100 / 43 / 14 1996 - $130 / 56 / 19 1997 - $250 / 107 / 36 1998 - $260 / 107 / 3 2004 - $900 / 216 / 72
  3. If that Black Cat 50 you bought was better than a Fair, you made out like a bandit. I paid $750 for a NM file copy back in '96, and at the time VG copies were selling for $250-$300 if you could find one I just looked in the '94 Overstreet. $84/36/12 were the NM/Fn/Gd prices back then. Today it guides for $900/216/72. Looks like I paid ~2.5x guide -- just about what it usually goes for.
  4. Nope -- part of my permanent collection now. This is one of those books that has legs. As soon as a dealer gets one it walks out the door. The last time my LCS got one of these it sold in < 2 hours. Bob told me he only had this one for 3 weeks. Dunno if I believe him since it was listed in his new catalog for $325, sticker had been marked $300 at one point, and he had $360 on it at the show.
  5. Got it from Beerbohm. I was actually looking for a Punch #12 but no one had one. It had been so long since I had seen this book I decided to snag it while I had the opportunity (and cash). It a really solid copy but has several wonderful water stains. VG is what I give it. $330 was the final price. I haven't even looked to see what it guides for. Frankly I don't care.
  6. I have to post this in as many threads as I can. I'm just sooooo happy to finally get one...
  7. Picked this up at WW Dallas. Been waiting a long time on this one...
  8. Great Scott!!! If you are unsure how to properly grade these you can always send them to me. I will grade them and only keep the westerns as a consulting fee. Ok, on a serious note. You've got quite a few rare variants there. I would definately slab those westerns. You should get a really nice chunk of change when/if you decide to sell them.
  9. Back just after the Man Of Steel days DC ran a mail-in contest where they were giving away a bound set of Man of Steel 1-5. Odds of winning were 1:100. A friend of mine won one. Essentially what they did was take the overstock Man Of Steel books and glue a cardstock cover on them -- instant TPB. The #1 (there was a direct and newsstand cover if you recall) was just random. You got one or the other in the #1 slot. Anyway, my friend showd up with his new, unopened Man Of Steel TPB. When we cracked it open we found that not only was the #1 the direct version but it was also a double cover. Too cool!
  10. Can you take some pix of that insert and email them to me?
  11. After the last round of BS with CGC telling me they would fix something for free and then charging me for it 9 months later I think I'll pass. Actually I just sold it to Roger (metarog) to help with his collection. I thought I might have a scan floating around but no dice. Maybe he can scan and post.
  12. The 4.0 Iron Man 89 is also a 30¢. I submitted it but some dillhole didn't realize it was a variant (even though it was written on the submission form). Somewhere back in this thread I posted a rant a/b some dickweed at CGC trying to tell me that there was no such thing as a variant IM 89 b/c it was not noted in Overstreet.
  13. The only reason you found those is because I haven't been to SA in over 6 months. I usually make the rounds and get 10-12 each trip.
  14. Of course there are the times they intentionally don't note it just out of stupidity. I submitted an Iron Man #89 back when CGC first opened its doors. I noted it as a variant but when it came back it was not marked as such. I called and asked what was up. The rep told me that there was not such thing as an Iron Man #89 variant -- because Overstreet didn't say anthing about it and had never heard of it. So, go to the census and look up Iron Man #89. That one... right there... the regular edition VG... that's it.
  15. Here are a couple new additions to the fold. Just got them back from Sarasota. Haven't decided what to do with them...
  16. I was doing some hard drive clean up and found this scan. I still have the book somewhere in all of my comic mess... Take note: It's not the scan that's blurry. That's just how far off the color register is on the cover.
  17. Here's a little something I picked up over the weekend. Total beater but I still love it.
  18. You? A mold phobia? Never! I heard you wouldn't even eat cheese or mushrooms for fear of transfering it to your comics.
