My friend Daniel at Scott's Collectables in the UK will personally be handling the Mattina SS for us in Italy. If you order the SS I will send it off to him and he will handle your book with the same care (he better lol ) that I handle my own books. He's a mate, and a good bloke. (thumbsu

Is this the same boardie selling their copy on eBay for $8,500...WTF? Are you kidding me.

Bill I agree the price is what it is however the last 9.8 went for around the same and none others have been for sale.

I fortunately have another if someone really wants that one. As for you saying you would have sold it when offererd 6k. That book is worth more to me especially if I can get Todd to sign it.

He didn't sign the #1 so I don't think he will sign this but it is always worth a shot right.

This is it.  You've clarified that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about since you first started typing in this thread and even if you think that you do, you can't write clearly enough to get it across.  First you "miswrote," then you appear to think that BeachBum sees any of this as a threat to his income which is silly considering how much CGC SS he does compared to the rest of his business.

BeachBum is one of the best and was here long before you and will still be here when you have found something else to misunderstand.  I buy from him because I know he can grade and that if he says a raw book is a 9.8, it's a 9.8.  I will pay more to him because I know that fact as opposed to saving a buck and hoping for the best with someone else.  He used to do more CGC SS books, as I recall even acting as a facilitator, but changed his focus long before exclusivity became an issue.  I seriously doubt that his interest here has anything to do with lining his pockets.  He has been a steadfast defender of the Signature Series program and CGC in general since he showed up.  He, like most of us that frequent this room, want to see the program and the company continue to succeed.  The practices that you describe and claim to have witnessed hurt all involved: the company, the program, the facilitators that do it right, and the fans and collectors that have invested so much time and money into all of this.

Medic this could not have been said better!

It's called quality control as long as you prep the book ahead of time with great instructions on your end the submitter like windowboxing, sending a marker with submission for correct color, and send a picture of the comic is slabbed where you want it signed then the facilitator can prep the comic for you and give the instructions to the witness. If it is an item getting signed then send a picture of the item and circle the area you want signed leave instructions. A good facilitator can keep control this way without having to be there.

Reddwarf thank you for explaining how to prep a book and in detail how to communicate with my facilitator on getting my books signed.

When I send my books for a signing I hold 1 person accountable for those books until turned over to CGC. That is the trust you build up with a facilitator, knowing they will treat those books like they owned them. Rich Henn is a great example of a facilitator owning the responsibility and condition of those books! You never see Rich sitting behind a desk asking for witnesses to take his clients books out to be signed. Accidents can happen to anyone however can you imagine a facilitator giving your books to someone else and they end up damaged? Who then is responsible?

CGC clearly defines what is expected from a facilitator and a witness and who is to be present when those books are getting signed.

these checks and balances are there to keep the integrity of the SS system. Make all the money you want just do it within the rules.

Dre being a troll is a joke! Surely you can understand the rules set in place and why CGC has set it up this way. We all have a love for comics or this conversation wouldn't be happening.

I think we are still waiting for the facilitators who see you allowing witnesses to take book while they are attending to other business?

  11. 43 minutes ago, BeachBum said:

I'll put this out there then - I think if customers are sending books out to Facilitators to get sigs done than the Customers should know who the witness is who is handling the books. If the Facilitators are sitting behind a booth the whole time the customer should know who the person is responsible for handling their books during the signing. I would hope these Facilitators are getting responsible people to handle these expensive books and prized possessions.

I couldn't agree more Dre. I would never want my books handed off to someone who is not responsible or accountable for my books.

Speaking strictly for myself, and this is something that I've always been transparent about----I do my pre-sales in order to gauge how much inventory I need to order.

Especially when it comes to variant covers.  I've missed out on some really fantastic variants in the past because I didn't get my orders in early enough.

Most recently, the Elektra #2 Adi Granov variant cover.   I had customers contact me about the book, and I couldn't offer it because I didn't request any in advance.

That's just one example----but I'm constantly in touch with my LCS, multiple times a day in fact, placing orders in advance to guarantee that I have the stock available to me.

If I wasn't able to to that, it would be increasingly difficult for me to be able to successfully deliver the product.

If I was to wait until the product is physically in hand, it's extremely unlikely that I'd have enough product, let alone high grade product to offer.

Also, I'm not about to just blindly purchase books that I (think) board members might like, go through the motions getting the books graded, and then throw them out there in the hopes that there are people interested in the book, months after it's been on and off the shelves.  The costs simply do not make this a viable option.

It just makes more business sense to offer various books that I (think) rather than (hope) board members might be interested in, and then based off that interest, I'll place my advance orders with my LCS.   If I throw out there, for example Unworthy Thor #1 standard and variant, and get 3 people interested, I'm going to make sure that I have at least double that waiting for me when I purchase inventory.  Seven to Eternity #1, I couldn't supply enough books past the initial 8 ordered,  because I waited till the book was on the shelves to offer it in the thread.  Had I offered the book earlier, I could have locked in twice that many.

On the other side of that coin, there have been several books with no takers, so I'm not going to even bother getting that book done.

Without the advent of the pre-sales in the signature room, it would significantly hamper the service that I am able to offer my customers and  significantly impact the amount of business that I do with CGC.

Rich you have always provided amazing service and sales threads posted in the open with full disclosure of what the buyer is getting. This is the standard with Dre, Torrey And Sean and you. Any others forgive me as I haven't delt with you but these others do value there relationships and honor there word. This is clearly not the case with all sellers and it sucks that a few can ruin it for many.
