Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included FREE within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Pricing: I try to price books close to fair market value. I am open to offers but it's not very likely I'm going to be accepting offers at 30% off fair market value.

Spiderman blue label label and restoration
VintageComics replied to jeffreyk's topic in Comics General
There are also several restored books in Marvel specialty labels mentioned in the Red Hood thread about tight grading. Either someone may have found a loophole that gets these restored books into specialty Blue labels and CGC hasn't noticed the error yet or we just happen to be spotting several mistakes and it's making it look like it's a pattern. -
Let's talk about out-of-touch pricing and forum ettiquette.

And just like there are nuances, you have a different spectrum of people and how they will either react or approve (just like you received a range of reactions from frowning to PMs of support) But the black and white rule is simple, not to do anything to dissuade a sale in a public venue. Anyway, I'm not criticizing you. Just having a dispassionate discussion, as you put it. -

Sure. I'd just add that it's not just this chat forum, it's most online venues where discussions about anything that can affect a sale are generally frowned upon in those selling venues. -

VintageComics replied to Poekaymon's topic in Comics General
Discussions regarding price in online selling threads are generally looked down on in ANY forum because it's considered uncouth. The way a free market is supposed to work, people can ask what the want for an item but conversations about price can tend to drive the price down publicly. I realize it's one sided but that's the way it is because the seller generally asks their top price and works their way down from there based on all discussions that happen after the price is posted. -
Why Steve Ditko left Spider-man/Marvel
VintageComics replied to Prince Namor's topic in Comics General
It's not hard to imagine a person being different in different settings. I hear many celebrities are great people and yet when they are pummeled by fans, it can really drag them down and bring out the worst for a bit....and yet they are probably generally, good people. I see Ditko the same way and I can see his letters to his fans showing a different Ditko than the guy you hung around with every day at the office. For sure, people are complicated. That's a great way to put it. -

Picture selling threads being like someone's store front or a booth at a flea market or comic show. You don't walk into someone's business and just start hammering away at a seller and arguing price in front of other people do you? It's considered bad manners. If you're walking through a grocery store and the eggs are too expensive, do you start a discussion on the open store floor among all the other customers about it? Not really. You just decide you'll pass and move on and shop elsewhere. That's what someone's selling thread is like. I realize that it's tempting and might even feel good for a moment to tell someone they're wacked, but you have no idea what they paid for that item, how motivated they are to sell it or whatever else. The internet has made a lot of people uncouth in the way they handle people's sales but just because a lot of people do it, it doesn't mean it's OK. The polite way to talk to someone about price is privately, between you and them just like you would if you were negotiating a price out in the real world. Not with everyone watching. That's how I see it. -

I just noticed that... And it's also important to recognize that the growth was likely in large part because of Stan's vision as a marketing genius. -

It ties in nicely to the thread that Chuck Gower had a few months ago. -

I actually forgot I posted in that old thread. I've always wondered why he was so rude and Richardish around here as 'Hood with a real, grating attitude. Was he like this when he was D+S? I don't remember. -
Is Alf 48 soon to be a 1k book in 9.8?

I tried. I could NOT get into Harry Potter and will probably never see them. -
Wow. WOW. I'd love to chat with your dad one day. I've never worked on a Miura or even seen one up close for that matter, but that is a special car. Most people don't realize that it was the car that was the predecessor to the Countach / Diablo line. And it is a gorgeous machine. I worked my last 11 years with Mercedes Benz and we used to do this national competition Canada wide for mechanics. I'd routinely place top 10 but one year I got Bronze or Silver (I can't remember) and even argued that I should have gotten Gold because the test question / answer was incorrect but they didn't allow appeals. The apprentice that I trained got Gold routinely and he ended up going to Germany (8 times, I think) to represent Canada and compete internationally against other countries. He went so often that he got tired of it and stopped competing. The main reason I became a comic book dealer was so that I could spend more time with my children as they were growing up and be there for them when they needed me because in the last few years of me working in the trade I was commuting a lot and pulling long hours and I wanted to make sure I was there for them before they became adults. I haven't turned a wrench in over 10 years professionally but it was a living and a way of life for over 2 decades. My how times change. Glad your dad is still doing what he loves.

I’m annoyed with Heritage Auction’s SELLERS!
VintageComics replied to Xenosmilus's topic in Comics General
That's shocking to me in an age where banking is a matter of just punching keys on a keyboard. I can understand putting a hold on a check (in Canada foreign checks are held 15 business days or 3 weeks even if they clear on the end of the sender in a matter of days) but it's odd that they won't accept them at all. I had a customer in Australia who was trying to buy something tell me something similar and even went so far as to try to tell me that wire transfers for payment are next to impossible. I didn't know whether to believe him or not because in this globalized economy I would have thought that international banking would have become easier and not tougher but maybe in North America (and Canada in particular) we're spoiled. -

I think it's a myth that onsite is loose just because it's onsite. I think Matt has tried to put controls into place to increase consistency over all both in Sarasota and onsite, but both are subject to variance.
