A similar thing happened just over 10 years ago. The market had been on fire for a decade. The world economy had crashed and hadn't recovered. Several new pedigrees were discovered within a year of each other. Pressing for the masses was starting and people were afraid of what it would do to the market and slowed down spending. Winter season was upon us. A few major players pulled OUT of the hobby at the same time. Perfect storm of depressed prices. It's just a cycle and has been happening since the beginning of time...and the mid 1930's for comics.

This thread is a pretty great snapshot in time on how the hobby and this forum has changed over the years. There were a few level heads back in the beginning of the thread who didn't come out with pitchforks but there was a lot of outrage, wrent clothing and screaming about pressing. Of course there is no excuse for the stories that the buyer laid out but my point is primarily about the pressing and the outrage. How times have changed.

What's most interesting (to those of us who have been talking about this on here for nearly 20 years) is how our own perception of the 2000's have changed. I remember people wanting to call it the chrome/nickel (or you name it) or the silicon age and other things. But I think you've summed it up quite nicely.
