  1. You should post some pics of the book markings and explain the story behind the markings. It's an absolutely KILLER story that I think a lot of boardies would appreciate.
  2. He's a real Annie Leibovitz. I actually did that on purpose. I love how glossy and bright the books from that OO collection are. BTW. That's racist.
  3. Dave has also been buying international copies and price variants for a long time.
  4. I was trying to figure out which Boardie this was. Dave and I both agree (but I won't name names).
  5. If your backwoods cabin had proper lighting everything would have turned out great.
  6. Early Batman and Joker appearances. Does anyone recognize these pages?
  7. Dave loves his watches as well as his comic books! Early Superman appearance.
  8. More tres cool stuff. This is bound volume of collected newspaper comics in French. These newspapers are from the early to mid 1940's.
  9. OK, this is a repost because I found my lost pics! This is a Thrilling Comics from 1941. The book has been taped along it's open edge and also across the spine on the outside. The tape is so old, that it's actually lifted off the spine as the glue had long since dissolved but the tape still sits snugly around the spine like a fossil. I was trying to figure out how to find out if this was a Pop Hollinger book. Pop Hollinger was one of THE FIRST comic book dealers, conservators. He would take old comics and repair them to keep the readable. The tape on this book was so old that I suspect it may have been. For more on Pop, you can check this out. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_Hollinger
  10. This isn't a convo for this public forum and I've repeatedly stated that I'd be happy to clear up anything with anyone, but the way to do it at this point is privately. If there are misunderstandings / mischaracterizations or misconceptions the ONLY way such a thing can be resolved is through discourse without the distractions of an audience. I'd even be happy to do it with anyone mediating. I think EVERYONE at this point would appreciate this being resolved and put to bed. Ball is in your court.
  11. More to come soon...just need a break.
  12. Did you all know that Miller's Wolverine Cover may have been based on a Frank Sinatra pic? I didn't. While we were hanging, Dave enlightened me.
  13. I was a teenager working in a VW dealership as a young punk when this happened. McFarlane fever had reached a fever pitch right after the 1989 Batman movie created Bat-mania around the world for arguably the 2nd time in history. If you don't know how big Bat-mania was in 1989 I'd never seen anything like it. I think Michael Keaton was more popular then than Taylor Swift is now. And remember, because collectors were complaining about subscription creases, ALL MARVELS WERE MAILED FLAT. Those two pieces of cardboard worked pretty well back in the day.
  14. Addressed to Dave's mom and his old store.
  15. This is where things start to get cooler....
  16. Most of us that collect comics collect other things as well.
  17. Dave loves low grade junk. I can't agree but to each their own. There's a story behind this book. Back in the day when he was younger, Dave wanted to own ONE BOOK from the 1940's. So he bought this book as a one-off. I'll let him share the gem of a book he passed on to pick this one clunker up.
  18. I was 49 and going into my 50th year when I decided I'm done with negativity and it was magical. I don't know if I could transform at a younger age. Sometimes it just takes 50 years worth of pain to finally learn your lessons but at the same time, there's a maturity that happens when you pass your previous phase in life. Kids get older, debts get paid down and you think to yourself "what am I living for?" I've decided to live for other people and will probably do that for the rest of my days. It really is an incredible feeling to do things for others. You have a problem with anxiety, depression or anything else? That's the cure.
  19. Wow Comics. After the success of Captain Marvel, you saw zillions of spinoff titles. These pages were as White as snow.
  20. It's funny because it really isn't. I don't really have a kryptonite anymore. It's just navigating life.
  21. This is a really cool book. Back in the day when print runs were done and they had remains, they'd assemble a bunch of comics and put a new cover on them to squeeze every bit of revenue they could out of their product and then they'd sell them like this: This is basically the same size and thickness as a comic sized graphic novel.
  22. I've never been a huge war / esoteric fan but I do appreciate the time capsule feel of the books of those war covers. It's like stepping into a time machine and I love it.
