I'm just now seeing this. I'm excited to read your your thoughts on your upcoming Swamp Thing journey! Like I said in my comment on your entry for issue #2, I've been curious to about these pre-Moore issues and I have been wanting to build a raw set for some time. I spent the better part of 2015 collecting and reading the Moore TPBs. I enjoyed the Veitch run as well, there are three oop TPBs of his run, the first two were easy to find, I only found the third one a year ago. Now I'm curious for the issues that follow the Veitch run.

I really like Batman #23, have you read Superman (Rebirth) Annual #1 yet? Its about Swampy!

This thread has tempted me to re-work my Batman journal format. I'm still reading, but kinda burnt out on the journal entries.

    Can't wait for more!

I believe after Veitch run, Doug Wheeler takes over. I haven't seen many positive reviews of his work on Swamp Thing. But hey maybe I'll read them if I can find them. As for Veitch's Swamp Thing, I lucked out a few months ago and I picked up his whole run for a buck each. Though I am surprised DC doesn't reprint his trades, it seems well respected.

Yeah that Superman annual was solid too, forgot to mention that one. Actually both Superman and Action are 2 of my top 5 DC titles right now along with Red Hood and the Outlaws, Batman, Suicide Squad and Deathstroke...okay that is six!

I'm looking forward to your Journal. I ready the Alan Moore run back in the day, mostly as they came out. Never read the Pasko stuff or Wein, but I've started picking up some of the pre-Moore SotSTs out of curiosity. I think reading the pre-Moore stuff will help put into context how groundbreaking Alan Moore's take was. For me, this, and Miracleman, are actually more enjoyable to read than Watchmen.

When you're done with Moore, the Veitch run is worth a look.  Also, I kinda liked the Morrison/Millar stuff.

Since then, it seems like writers have really struggled with the character. And DCs attempts to integrate him into the DCU don't seem to have taken root (sorry).

Thanks for reading. I do plan on reading Veitch, I've heard good things about his run as well. I agree about most writers struggling with Swamp Thing with his guest appearances, every time he has shown up it was pretty much meh. I did like his most recent appearance in Batman 23, perhaps King should give Swamp Thing a go at some point.
