  1. The cover is cool. I only own one The Thing! 16
  2. I sent a message to the seller and asked him why he thought the book was so much, because I have a copy of it as well that’s pretty beat up and I wanted more information before I sold it. I was trying to play dumb just to see if I can get some sort of response from him
  3. Ive noticed since COVID that a lot of books are going for higher prices! I think because there are no (or so few) comic cons and some states you can't do anything but work and go home, that most people have extra to spend on comics/collectibles pushing some books out of my price range. And people do use the "rare, old, or when do you see one for sale" pretty often, more recently on ebay.
  4. I dont remember...around $200 + it wasn't cheap and it was a consignment book. I did a thread in general about the same shop and some of the consignment books that I made an offer on but this was not in that offer
  5. I dont normally buy Westerns but found this in a cheapy box and thought looks like a shootout is about to happen, Stan Lee, Ayers, and a Jack Kirby cover...ok sign me up. But I do have a question is this a Atlas book or Marvel? Mycomicshop.com says Atlas/Marvel.
  6. So the listing is crazy that's what Im thinking. Great copy by the way! A LCS has a copy and I liked the cover but the asking price was a lot and that one is raw about a 2.0.
  7. Got this today at a LCS! Pretty fitting on Halloween!
  8. Got this today from a LCS! Pretty fitting for today I think!
  9. So I was looking around on ebay and found a copy of The Thing! 10 for $1500 in what looks like a 1.8 -2.0. I can not find any significance to this book. This is also the only one on ebay. My questions are 1) What if any significance does this book have? 2) Is it a super rare book? only 1 on ebay and no sold listings. 3) Is the asking price on point or crazy? https://www.ebay.com/itm/PRECODE-THE-THING-10-1953-horror-comic-weird-tales-cdc-suspense-pch-scarce/293579189759?hash=item445aaeedff:g:2WQAAOSw1PxevGqV
  10. The grade doesnt match what I see. This happened to me earlier this week. I was at another LCS that was going through a short box of beat up readers, he said I could go through it and he would look them up if I found any. I did find a conan king size 1 a conan 3 or 4 and a marvel teamup 141 ( first white rabbit) i think. These were all beatup readers that should have been $2-$3 at best. The first book was the conan 3 or 4 and he graded it at a 4.5 because the staples and book were complete but it looked at best 2.0! He was using comicbook realm for prices. I should have overpaid just to show and tell people what a 4.5 looks like at this store. I almost asked him to check ebay for ANY CGC 4.5 and see if it was close but didnt. That store is really overpriced because of their grading but its not the only store that was that problem in my area there are at least 3-4 that overgrade and then price according to that grade and their books just sit and they dont care. Id love to buy some of them but its not worth the time.
  11. I care a lot about being upfront and honest and I am always willing to learn from my mistakes. Especially when a few close friends call me out. Even though the shop honestly dis not have a problem with me walking away my friend did point out that these books dont come up for sale often and that they fit my collection nicely.
  12. So I went in the shop today and the shop owner said that the seller would take the offer and the ball was in my court. I said that I think I would pass because I had more info and shared it with him. He agreed and said that the books have been in the shop for awhile, and that it was ok to walk away. I did wind up buying a book that I saw last week from him for around $100 today. Since then Ive seen the responses from a few of you (a few who I respect without question) that I should go through with the offer if accepted, I even talked to a few friends and got the same answer from 2 out of 3 to honor the offer. Their opinions hit home, especially when thier tone of voice changed. But with what I heard today from this post and from my friends one of them being a shop owner and hearing what they thought about it really had me thinking that I made a big mistake and I feel horrible and now have a guilty conscience and the need to make things right. I have since called the shop and told him that I would and should have honored the deal and that I was sorry about this and that I would be at his store this week to buy them, he said that it really wasnt a big deal and don’t worry about it. I respect this shop owner so much that I feel like I let him down (and in a way let the boards down), wether I did he is acting like it is really not a big deal and doesn’t want me to worry about it. I have spent around $300 in his shop in the last month alone and love going to his store. I just wish it wasnt 40+ min drive. I cant make it back today but I will go get them this week. Yes I overthink (and maybe overshare) buying books A LOT when it comes to a high dollar purchase. I respect and value everyone’s opinion here thats why I posed the question.
  13. I can see how people miss read that as I wrote the post incorrectly. Here’s clarification I have been thinking about the books for three weeks (I did not make an offer) this week I made an offer it has only been two days but the shop is an hour away from my house and I was going there today. Sorry for not posting this more clearly. The shop had easy access to the seller, that was not an issue. I think I am getting cold feet because of 3 things 1) over analyzing my offer and sitting and stewing on the books 2) last sold prices and what’s currently (only 4 between the 2 books on ebay) available are all over the place. And they are low grade books 1.5-1.8 that im looking at ( only 1 of the books is in same grade on eaby but the ask $550 but last sold was $290 in better condition) they are PCH thats my second focus on my collection, EC being first. 3) Most importantly this would be the second biggest buy that I have done.
  14. What causes you to walk away from buying comics? Are you and the dealer off on money or trade value? I’ve only traded two times with a dealer, once at a shop and once at C2E2. Both were great experiences and had no problems. Matter-of-fact the dealer that I traded with was our own @Dale Roberts he was awesome to work with! Do you get a bad vibe from the seller? I had this happen to me at C2E2 two years ago and I walked away. Are you not able to “flip” the book(s) to pay for the rest of the purchase? I know people frown on “flippers” but if you can buy a few books and sell some to keep 1 or more books, I dont see that as bad. Do you overthink your offer for a few days/weeks? This is my current problem! Ive had 3 weeks to sit and ponder it. I made an offer and Im waiting on a response since they are consignment books in a LCS. But I think my offer is actually too high compared to fair market value and actually regret making the offer. If the offer is excepted should I feel obligated to buy the books or should I still have the power to walk away? And if you walk how often do you regret it? Have you went back? I know we all probably have stories on this one. I did this (again) two years ago at C2E2 and again a few weeks ago at a small show. I was looking at a dealers books there was a book that I always wanted I looked at the price and I thought that it might be in line with the current market so I didn’t even look it up and walked away. I went back to the same dealer with a friend of mine and I pointed the book out to him he looked at the book and prices and it was grossly under priced. Last sold of that book in grade was $400 + he got it for $120. Are there any other factors that I might be missing?
  15. 400 TMNT The Last Ronin 1 Great action packed issue with intrigue.
  16. Got this a few weeks ago. Surprised at what the last sold copy on ebay went for ($400) what if any significant does it have other than Kirby.
  17. 391-399 Fire Power 4 I like this story pretty fun still. Wolverine 6 I never really read a lot of Wolverine but thus is an awesome series so far! Thor 7-8 Again I never have read many Thor books. This is another series that Im liking. And this issue reveals Tony Starks phone number...give it a call! Nightwing 75 I was only getting this for the Joker War tie in but I might stick with it. The start of this new story line seems promising because KGBeast wants to finish the job. Batman 100 Joker War finale...kind of a let down. Detective Comics 1027 and 1028 1027 was a decent anniversary issue, and 1028 was a cool one shot before a new arc. Foxhole 5 Cool war book, again this is something out of my wheel house. But war books seem hot right now and it had a Simon and Kirby cover.
  18. Great Escape was a cool store. Lots of toys as well. Nice selection of comics, and they had books and music. I only picked up Daredevil issue 4 of the Chip Zadarsky series. I really liked the general area that it was located too. Thanks for the recommendation!
  19. Hey guys my work is sending me to Sellersburg Indiana. I will be out there today around 4 o’clock 5 o’clock are there any comic book stores that are open and worth stopping by? I am coming from St. Louis so I will be taking Highway 64 east anyone know of any comic book stores along that Corredor?
  20. Alan Moore does the back up stories on these. I haven't read them yet.
  21. @IbukiLord I saw the die!mite book at my LCS, what is it about? any good or just a "hot" book?
